  • Pervaporation separation is one of promising membrane technology for the energy saving processes and it has been developed to separate complex mixture systems including azeotropic mixture, close-boiling mixture, aqueous organic mixtures etc. Many researchers focused on dehydration pervaporation separation and they commercialized ethanol dehydration and isopropanol recycling processes. Nowadays, petroleum separation and volatile organic compound removal using pervaporation membranes is one of the emerging application of pervaporation separation. We reviewed the development and application of pervaporation membranes.

  • The present work have been developed the interpretation processor including the behavior of material failure and the separation phenomena under transient dynamic loading (the operation of explosive bolt) using AUTODYN V4.3, SoildWork 2003 and TrueGrid V2.1 programs. It has been demonstrated that the interpretation in ridge-cut explosive bolt under dynamic loading condition should be necessary to the appropriate failure model and the basic stress of bolt failure is the principal stress. The use of this interpretation processor developing the present work could be extensively helped to design the shape and the amount of explosives in the explosive bolt having a complex geometry. It is also proved that the interpretation processor approach is an accurate and effective analysis technique to evaluate the separation mechanism in explosive bolts.

  • Modified polycrylonitrile(PAN) membranes were prepared by emulsion or emulsifier-free emulsion polymerization technique. Separation capacity was determined at several operating temperatures(25, 40, 55 and 70 $^{\circ}$C) to dehydrate 56wt% pyridine aqueous solution through modified PAN membranes having different functional groups. All these PAN-based membranes were selective toward water to different degrees depending on the nature of functional groups present in the membranes. Pervaporation characteristics of PAN-based membranes are so different and classified into three categories depending on the type of the functional groups in PAN copolymers. Among PAN-based membranes, the in-situ complex membranes show the best separation capacity over the operating temperatures.

  • This paper investigates the topographic effects on wind characteristics over hilly terrain, based on wind data recorded at a number of meteorological stations in or near complex terrain. The multiply data sources allow a more detailed investigation of the flow field than is normally possible. Vertical profiles of mean and turbulent wind components from a Sodar profiler were presented and then modeled as functions of height and wind speed. The correlations between longitudinal and vertical wind components were discussed. The phenomena of flow separation and generation of vortices were observed. The distance-dependence of the topographic effects on gust factors was revealed subsequently. Furthermore, the canyon effect was identified and discussed based on the observations of wind at a saddle point between two mountain peaks. This study aims to further understanding of the characteristics of surface wind over rugged terrain. The presented results are expected to be useful for structural design, prevention of pollutant dispersion, and validation of CFD (computational fluid dynamics) models or techniques over complex terrains.

  • Chromatographic retention behavior and separation of various phenol derivatives on a Partisil 10 ODS 3 column-with mobile phase containing $\alpha$-cyclodextrin-were systematically studied. The decrease in k' values caused by the addition of cyclodextrins in the mobile phase was based on the formation of an inclusion complex, resulting in weakening of the hydrophobic interaction between solutes and the stationary phase. The content of the organic solvent in the mobile phase also influenced k' values of the solutes, and k' values increased with a decrease of the content of organic solvent in the mobile phase. A simple equation has been derived that reveals the hyperbolic dependence of the capacity factor on the total concentration of cyclodextrin. A plot of the reciprocal of the capacity factor against (CD)$_T$ gives a straight line and the dissociation constant, K$_D$, of the inclusion complex can be calculated from the slope. The capacity factor decreased with increasing temperature. The enthalpy was calculated from the slope of van't Hoff plots. Under optimum conditions, some mixtures of phenol derivatives were able to separated successfully.

  • Ephedra is a genus of the Ephedraceae family and is found in temperate regions, such as Central Asia and Europe. Among the various ephedra species, Ma Huang (Ephedra herb) is derived from the aerial parts of Ephedra sinica S tapf, Ephedra equisetina Bunge, and Ephedra intermedia Schrenk & C.A. Mey. Ma Huang contains various ephedra alkaloids, including (-)-ephedrine, (+)-pseudoephedrine, (-)-norephedrine, (+)-norpseudoephedrine, (-)-methylephedrine, and (+)-methylpseudoephedrine, which are found naturally as single enantiomers, although they can be prepared as racemates. Although the use of Ma Huang in foods is prohibited in Korea, products containing Ma Huang can be imported, and so it is necessary to develop a suitable analytical technique for the detection of Ma Huang in foods. Herein, we report the development of analytical methods for the detection of ephedra alkaloids in products containing Ma Huang. Following sample purification by solid phase extraction, quantitative analysis was performed using ultra-performance liquid chromatography-triple quadrupole mass spectrometry (UPLC-MS/MS). Additionally, the enantiomers were successfully separated using HPLC-DAD. We successfully analyzed various food samples, where the ephedra alkaloids were qualitatively and quantitatively determined, and the enantiomers were separated. It is expected that these methods may contribute toward preventing the distribution of illegal products containing Ma Huang.

  • In 10M chloride (4M HCl + 6M LiCl) solution, cobalt, but not nickel, formed complex anion (${CoCl_3}^-$), and this anion was extracted by a liquid anion exchanger with Amberlite LA-2. The ion exchange capacity was 2.175meq of cobalt complex per unit ml of Amberlite LA-2. Upon eluting the resin with 0.4M nitric acid, the cobalt complex was stripped and transfered into eluate quantitatively. By using this separation method in the chloride solution dissolved with 50mg of cobalt (II) and 500mg of nikel(II), recovery of cobalt were 99.6 percent.

  • Serious games are purposive game. So game-developers want to achieve the desired purposes, and game-users also want to play to achieve the goals of playing games. The function of achievement-assessing is an important area of serious game. In this study, achievement-assessing style was defined as three types, that is, 'all-in-one', 'complex', and 'separation'. Accordingly, we analyzed which type of serious games use which type of achievement-assessing style. As a result, the survey shows that those who want to play game itself preferred 'all-in-one' above all, and those who want to stick to the purpose of game preferred 'separation' or 'complex'. In addition, the investigation of preference of achievement-assessing function shows that users, as a whole, preferred 'all-in-one'. We hope this study will be useful data to design of achievement-assessing function which achieve the purpose of game and provide users with higher satisfaction.

  • Polycarbonate(PC) membranes for oxygen enrichment from air were prepared by the wet phase inversion method. In order to improve oxygen separation performances of the PC membrane, the effect of the added ethanol(nonsolvent) and $CuCl_2$(metal salt) concentration in the casting solution on morphology, oxygen permeability ami $O_2/N_2$ separation factor of the membrane was studied. In addition, tensile strength and elongation at break of the membrane were investigated. An asymmetric membrane with a dense top layer and a porous sublayer was obtained. The thickness of the dense top layer decreased with increasing amount of nonsolvent additive. Compared with pure PC membrane without additive(metal salt), the oxygen permeability and $O_2/N_2$ separation factor of the $PC/CuCl_2$ membrane are significantly improved. The oxygen permeability and $O_2/N_2$ separation factor is $5.25{\times}10^{-9}cm^3(STP){\cdot}cm/cm^2{\cdot}sec{\cdot}cmHg$ and 4.5, respectively. This improvement might be due to good interaction between metal salt and oxygen.
