  • Recent development and penetrating expansion in ICT(Information and Communication Technology) has brought considerable improvements in transportation services. However, there is a controversial debate whether transportation and communications behave as substitutes or as complements to one another. On this subject, recent studies considered those two industries as services, but transportation and communications are broadly put for intermediary goods into other industries. Hence, it is essential to examine this issue from understanding their relationships to each other with respect to manufacturing and services. In this study, input-output tables of benchmark years from 1980 to 2005 have been analysed to explore the relationships between transportation and communications using Spearman's correlation analysis. The results show that both industries had complementary roles over the period, but, to some extent, changed into substitution roles in some categories.

  • Fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) is a powerful tool for the detection of DNA sequences in the specific region of the chromosomes. As well as for the integrated physical mapping, FISH karyotype analysis has to be preceded. Karyotype of Raphanus sativus 'Wonkyo 10039' was analyzed by a dual-color FISH technique; using various repetitive DNA probes, including 5S rDNA, 45S rDNA, and centromere retrotransposon. The length of the somatic metaphase chromosome ranged from 1.35 to $2.06{\mu}m$ with a total length of $15.29{\mu}m$. The chromosome complements comprised of eight pairs of metacentrics and one pair of submetacentric. Bleached DAPI Band analysis revealed a heterochromatin region, covering 28.6% to 50.4% each chromosomes. 5S and 45S rDNA sequences were located on two and three pairs of chromosomes, respectively. The centromere retrotransposon of Brassica (CRB) is a major component in Brassica related species that has been maintained as a common centromere component. CRB signals were detected on the centromere and pericentromeric region of R. sativus 'Wonkyo 10039' and three basic Brassica species (B. rapa, B. nigra, and B. oleracea). These results will provide a valuable background for physical mapping and elucidation of the evolutionary relationship among the Brassica related species.

  • ATSC DTV system uses FPLL block for acquiring the frequency synchronization. Because the FPLL uses only the pilot signal, the frequency convergence range becomes narrower and it takes a more time to acquire the frequency synchronization as the pilot is distorted. And the spectrum shape around the pilot makes an asymmetric convergence range between the positive frequency offset and the negative frequency offset. This paper proposes the algorithm that requires the Installation of the fitters at the both edges of a VSB spectrum and uses the signal power that passes these filters. The proposed algorithm complements the problems of the asymmetric convergence range and overcomes the performance degradation due to the distortion of a pilot level.

  • The Cyt1Aa protein of Bacillus thuringiensis susbp. israelensis elaborates demonstrable toxicity to mosquito larvae, but more importantly, it enhances the larvicidal activity of this species Cry proteins (Cry11Aa, Cry4Aa, and Cry4Ba) and delays the phenotypic expression of resistance to these that has evolved in Culex quinquefasciatus. It is also known that Cyt1Aa, which is highly lipophilic, synergizes Cry11Aa by functioning as a surrogate membrane-bound receptor for the latter protein. Little is known, however, about whether Cyt1Aa can interact similarly with other Cry proteins not primarily mosquitocidal; for example, Cry2Aa, which is active against lepidopteran larvae, but essentially inactive or has very low toxicity to mosquito larvae. Here we demonstrate by ligand binding and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assays that Cyt1Aa and Cry2Aa form intermolecular complexes in vitro, and in addition show that Cyt1Aa facilitates binding of Cry2Aa throughout the midgut of C. quinquefasciatus larvae. As Cry2Aa and Cry11Aa share structural similarity in domain II, the interaction between Cyt1Aa and Cry2Aa could be a result of a similar mechanism previously proposed for Cry11Aa and Cyt1Aa. Finally, despite the observed interaction between Cry2Aa and Cyt1Aa, only a 2-fold enhancement in toxicity resulted against C. quinquefasciatus. Regardless, our results suggest that Cry2Aa could be a useful component of mosquitocidal endotoxin complements being developed for recombinant strains of B. thuringiensis subsp. israelensis and B. sphaericus aimed at improving the efficacy of commercial products and avoiding resistance.

  • The purpose of this study was to demonstrate immune-activities by heat therapy. To exam, furthermore, the immune effect is investigated from the healthy volunteer(male:15, female:15) by monitoring changes of immune substances such as complements(C1q, C3, and C4), a comparative study with warm water immersion($40.8{\pm}0.3^{\circ}C$) and infrared(250W) was carried out. The plasma analysis showed that the percentage of C1q, C3, and C4 was decreased in warm water immersion-stimulated group, but not in infrared-applied group, compared with control group from healthy volunteer. Therefore, these results suggest that the thermo-stimulation improved immune activity and inhibited complement-related inflammation through the warm water immersion-dependent classical pathway.

  • This study is about the scale to evaluate the data of the countermeasures in the 'simulation based government exercise' (tentative name). The criteria and weighting of the scale is a standard for evaluating the data of each agency input. This maintains the objectivity and consistency of the evaluation, which complements the subjective evaluation of the observer. Therefore, the criteria should accommodate the purpose of the government exercise evaluation, the possibility of measurement in the simulation environment, the objectivity, no-duplication and causality between criteria, and the grade applying the evaluation results, and the weighting should be set. In this study, three major criteria of timeliness, accuracy, and appropriateness is set up for the evaluation scale and it consists of sub-criteria classified into three classes below respectively and the concept of it was defined. The weighting was calculated by AHP analysis considering the hierarchical structure of it. When this evaluation scale is applied to the 'simulation based government exercise' in the future, it will be possible to secure consistency and objectivity of the evaluation of measures by integrating the quantified evaluation into the observation evaluation and to conduct AAR by scientific techniques.

  • This paper suggests producer/consumer-based Data Binder enabling applications and biomedical devices developed by mutually different vendors to transfer data dynamically. Data Binder is implemented as a bundle of OSGi platform providing component-based programming model and service-oriented operation architecture. Data Binder complements the disadvantage of OSGi WireAdmin service enabling static data delivery between a producer and a consumer of data. Data Binder normalizes an application requirement as an application descriptor and a device capability as a device descriptor so that it enables dynamic data delivery by making data producer/consumer pair in runtime. Therefore, Data Binder can be used as a connection management of a data link between a data producer and a data consumer in sensor-based application development. The object of this paper is to provide the facility of the healthcare service development by separating a data producer such as a biomedical device from a data consumer such as a healthcare application.

  • It is difficult to figure out the specific contents of the buildings in the internet spatial area, since those data on the internet present only the location of buildings and the outlines of lands on which buildings are located, An experimental study for the view management of building information at internet urban spatial area was conducted on the Web-GIS based map using hyper map. With the building information on the 2-D map, modified from the previous numerical map and the regional building information and additional information, a new form of building through 3-D icons was shown on the internet spatial area. This study shows the Web-based building management system, which is designed to manage attribute data about hyper-linked buildings of 2.5-D icons and to reproduce visual building information by putting a variety of information into hyper-linked icons on the hyper map. This system not only complements the lack of consistency between real buildings and those on the map, but also provides users with more familiar urban space, so that everybody can utilize the building information as long as he has access to the internet.

  • By becoming 21st century which run be charactered as highly industrialized society which spreads diversification and individualization, there have been elevation of income level and increase of time for leisure activity by introducing 5 working days system. And this brings out increasing of aquatic leisure activity population and the contents of the leisure becomes very active. Static indoor activity which was the main current of the leisure activity in the past, however, it is now called for outdoor activity accompanied by the society growth and even expands towards that people get into action and experience by their own free will. With this point of view, the aquatic leisure run become a safe activity. But with a rapid growth of aquatic leisure activity, safety concerns become a serious problem. To prevent safety accident, training should be given, safety inspection and registration should be requested, and strong support of system is needed so users can have an insurance for safety accident. These complements are necessary for overall nourishment and management measure to charge in systematical safety for the users.

  • This study deals with the flow over a flat plate with repeated roughness elements of 2-dimensional rectangular shape, which can be applied into the study on the natural geographical roughness and the turbulent flow on roughened solid surface. Part 1 of the study showed that the ratio between the spacing and the height of roughness elements plays a crucial role in developing the flow pattern near wall surface. The present study complements the turbulence characteristics, the utilization of friction velocity as well as integral parameters. Results confirmed that k-type roughness(s/H=7 or 14) is certainly a more effective means than d-type roughness (s/H=3.5) in thickening the viscous region.
