eLoran Signal Strength and Atmospheric Noise Simulation over Korea

  • GPS is the most widely-used Positioning, Navigation, and Timing (PNT) system. Since GPS is an important PNT infrastructure, the vulnerability of GPS to signal jamming has received significant attention. Especially, South Korea has experienced intentional high-power jamming from North Korea for the past three years, and thus realized the necessity of a complementary PNT system. South Korea recently decided to deploy a high-power terrestrial navigation system, eLoran, as a complementary PNT system. According to the plan, the initial operational capability of the Korean eLoran system is expected by 2016, and the full operational capability is expected by 2018. As a necessary research tool to support the Korean eLoran program, an eLoran performance simulation tool for Korea is under development. In this paper, the received signal strength, which is necessary to simulate eLoran performance, from the suggested Korean eLoran transmitters is simulated with the consideration of effective ground conductivities over Korea. Then, eLoran signal-to-noise ratios are also simulated based on atmospheric noise data over Korea. This basic simulation tool will be expanded to estimate the navigation performance (e.g., accuracy, integrity, continuity, and availability) of the Korean eLoran system.

  • A speed signal of governor, which control the output and speed of a generator, is important because a signal failure can be causing the shutdown of a power plant. thus, it is necessary to introduce switching method with two complementary signal. This paper presents a comparative study of speed signal switching methods. One of the Proposed methods has been tested at a power plant in Pukcheju and the approach described here is expected to be of wide applicability.

A 1.5 V High-Cain High-Frequency CMOS Complementary Operational Amplifier

  • In this paper, a 1.5 V high-gain high-frequency CMOS complementary operational amplifier is presented. The input stage of op-amp is designed for supporting the constant transconductance on the Input stage by consisting of the parallel-connected rail-to-rail complementary differential pairs. And consisting of the class-AB rail-to-rail output stage using the concept of elementary shunt stage and the grounded-gate cascode compensation technique for improving the low PSRR which was a disadvantage in the general CMOS complementary input stage, the load dependence of open loop gain and the stability of op- amp on the output load are improved, and the high-gain high-frequency operation can be achieved. The designed op-amp operates perfectly on the complementary mode with the 180° phase conversion for a 1.5 V supply voltage, and shows the DC open loop gain of 84 dB, the phase margin of 65°, and the unity gain frequency of 20 MHz. In addition, the amplifier shows the 0.1 % settling time of .179 ㎲ for the positive step and 0.154 ㎲ for the negative step on the 100 mV small-signal step, respectively, and shows the total power dissipation of 8.93 mW.

A CMOS Complementary Bridge Rectifier for Driving RFID Transponder Chips

  • In this paper, a CMOS complementary bridge rectifier for driving RFID transponder chips is presented. The proposed RFID CMOS complementary bridge rectifier is designed with two NMOSs at the input, which are configured by cross-connected gate structures, and two PMOSs and two NMOSs at the output, which are configured by diode-connected MOS structures. Output characteristics of the proposed rectifier are analyzed with the high frequency small-signal equivalent circuit and verified with SPICE for RFID operating frequencies of 13.56 MHz HF for ISO 18000-3, 915MHz UHF for ISO 18000-6, and 2.45 GHz microwave for ISO 18000-4. Simulation results show well-rectified and high enough DC output voltages for driving the low power microchip in the RFID transponder for the frequency range from HF to microwave. DC output voltages are dropped by only around 0.7 V from the input peak-to-peak voltages.

  • 본 논문에서는 저전압 아날로그-디지털 혼성모드 신호처리를 위한 3V CMOS 연속시간 완전균형 적분기가 설계되었다. 설계된 완전균형 적분기의 기본구조는 NMOS와 PMOS 트랜지스터를 이용한 상보형 회로이며, 이러한 상보형 회로는 적분기의 트랜스컨덕턴스를 증가시킬수 있는 장점이 있다. 그리고 트랜스컨덕턴스의 증가는 적분기의 단위이득 주파수, 폴 그리고 영점을 증가시킨다. 소신호해석과 SPICE 시뮬레이션을 통해 기존의 적분기들과 비교하여 이러한 개선점들을 증명하였다. 0.8 3V CMOS CMOS 공정 파라미터를 이용하여 완전균형 상보형 적분기의 응용회로로서 3차 능동 지역통과 필터를 설계하였다.

  • A complementary VHF CMOS active inductor is described. The proposed circuit employs 'p-type' and 'n-type' active inductor to obtain enlarged signal handling ability. Under the same inductance, Q value, and power consumption, the proposed circuit shows more than 12-㏈ improvement in dynamic range while maintaining high-frequency operation. Further enhancement is obtained by using a fully differential floating inductor structure. A 1-㎓ 4$\^$th/-order coupled-resonator filter is designed to demonstrate the potential of the proposed active inductor.

  • This paper introduces the design of low-power, fast-locking delay locked-loop using complementary pass transistor logic(CPL). Low-power design has become one of the most important in the modem VLSI application. CPL has the advantage of fast speed, high density, and low power with signal buffering between stages. Based on this analysis, we concluded that the I/O performance can be beyond 500㎒, 2-poly, 2-metal 0.65$\mu\textrm{m}$, 3.3V supply.

Direct Controller for Nonlinear System Using a Neural Network

  • In this paper, a direct controller for nonlinear plants using a neural network is presented. The controller is composed of an approximate controller and a neural network auxiliary controller. The approximate controller gives the rough control and the neural network controller gives the complementary signal to further reduce the output tracking error. This method does not put too much restriction on the type of nonlinear plant to be controlled. In this method, a RBF neural network is trained and the system has a stable performance for the inputs it has been trained for. Simulation results show that it is very effective and can realize a satisfactory control of the nonlinear system.

  • A new ultrasound imaging technique based on simultaneous multiple transmit focusing using orthogonal modified Golay codes is presented. modified Golay codes are used to increase signal-to-noise-ratio(SNR) and maximize the transmit power efficiency(TPE). Conventional Golay codes consist of a pair of complementary codes with same length and can be compressed into a delta-like signal due to their complementary property. In the present work, two modified Golay codes focused at different depths are transmitted at the same time, which are mutually orthogonal. On receive, these orthogonal modified Golay codes are separately compressed into two short pulses and individually focused. These two focused beam are combined to form a frame of image with improved lateral resolution. Computer simulations are performed to verity the proposed method improves the lateral resolution of image compared with the conventional echo system.

윈도우 함수를 이용한 2차원 신호의 위상복원 (Two-Dimensional Phase Retrieval Using Window Functions)

  • 이 논문에서는 윈도우를 이용한 위상복원에 관하여 다룬다, 구하고자 하는 신호의 푸리에 크기와 이 원하는 신호에 서로 보완 (complementary) 윈도우가 곱해진 신호의 푸리에 크기로부터 원하는 신호를 구하는 문제에 대하여 알아본다. 여기서는 유일 조건을 만족하기 위한 여러 조건을 제시하고 Gerchberg-Saxton 알고리즘을 응용한 새로운 복원 알고리즘을 제시한다. 이 연구의 결과는 광학, 특히 천문학에서 Ground-based Telescope의 성능 개선에 이용할 수 있을 것으로 생각된다.
