  • Today modern people have been searching on managing themselves in easy ways without side-effects to lead a healthy and quality life, accordingly concerns about complementary and alternative medicine have been increasing. The scientific term' complementary and alternative medicine' has been originally used in the US and has become the general term for natural treatment of medical methods, which can be suggested as an alternative solution to modern medical problems. There should be a study based on users' subjectivity to reinvigorate complementary and alternative medicine more than it does now. The purpose of this study is to offer basic materials when assessing practical applications on complementary and alternative medicine using the Q method which is subjective pattern analysis, help understand features of complementary and alternative therapy according to patterns, and find out preferences for patterns of complementary and alternative therapy. As a result patterns of complementary and alternative medicine were classified into three types. Firstly, type I prefers to biological/herbal treatment. Secondly, type II prefers to mixed treatments. Thirdly, type III prefers to manual healing.

  • In this paper, we evaluate the performance of frame synchronization words of pilot bit patterns which are used for the channel estimation and frame synchronization confirmation in W-CDMA(Wide band Code Division Multiple Access) system. W-CDMA system also uses compressed mode to make measurements from another frequency without a full dual receiver terminal. It is confirmed by using computer simulation that the proposed frame synchronization words also maintain the frame synchronization property in the compressed mode by using the complementary mapping relationship of preferred pair ROC(Receiver Operating Characteristic) curves with probability of detection and false alarm are used to analized the performance of the proposed frame synchronization words by using the various detection metrics such as LLRT(Log Likelyhood Ratio Test), GLRT(Generalied Likelyhood Ratio Test), soft and hard correlation tests in AWGN and Rayleigh fading channels. It is expected that the research results fer the performance of pilot bit patterns of this paper can be useful reference for the design and implementation of frame synchronization in 3rd generation W-CDMA system.

  • In this paper, we present a low-profile ultra-wide band half-wavelength loop antenna for UAV (Unmanned Aerial Vehicle) applications. The proposed antenna has an ultra-wide band using self-complementary principle. Also, the ground was located between radiators for reducing height of the antenna using image theory. Dimensions of proposed antenna have $0.20{\lambda}_L{\times}0.14{\lambda}_L{\times}0.16{\lambda}_L$ (${\lambda}_L$ is the free-space wavelength at lowest frequency). Measured -10 dB bandwidth was ultra-wide band as more than 50 : 1(over 0.3 GHz ~15 GHz). The radiation patterns of the antenna was omnidirectional like monopole antennas. Moreover, we tried the antenna mounted on under a fuselage of a scaled UAV. As a result, the proposed antenna on the UAV maintained ultra-wide band and omnidirectional radiation patterns at all frequencies.

  • Based on a substrate integrated waveguide(SIW) and a complementary split ring resonator(CSRR), electrically small antennas are proposed in this paper. Antenna's electrical size is reduced by introducing both CSRR and the eighth-mode substrate integrated waveguide(EMSIW). The EMSIW occupies only 12.5 % of the conventional SIW at the same dominant resonant frequency. In addition, the resonant frequency of the antenna is varied by rotating the CSRR on the EMSIW while keeping the same radiation patterns. The resonant frequency is changed from 4.74 GHz to 5.07 GHz by varying orientation of the CSRR from 0 to 360 degree. Unidirectional radiation patterns are observed and the measured peak gains are from 4.50 to 5.92 dBi.

  • The principle of vowel dispersion claims that vowels are dispersed in the available phonetic space. However, SPAP and UPSID show that deviations from the patterns predicted by this principle are relatively infrequent of, for the most part, confined to matters of small scale, falling into a few definable classes. In this paper, we will discuss the vowel systems of 4 languages, Korean, English, Japanese, and Chinese, and will argue that vowels tend toward a balanced and wide dispersion in the available phonetic space by the complementary vowels.

  • Purpose: This study was conducted to investigate community health practitioners' knowledge of, use patterns of, and attitudes toward CAM. Method: The subjects of this study were 817 community health practitioners (CHPs) from 9 Provinces in Korea selected through convenient sampling. They completed and submitted self-report questionnaires at the annual meeting of CHPs or sent completed questionnaires to us by mail. Result: Of the CHPs, 8.1% had a certificate of CAM-related education program, and 39.9% worried about the efficacy of CAM. They knew about massage (74.0%), finger pressure (68.1%), hand acupuncture (67.8%), diet (65.5%) and herb (64.7%). They had used herb (43.3%), massage (36.8%), hand acupuncture (32.7%) and vacuum (31.2%) with positive effects and recommended residents to use them. Attitude toward CAM tended to be positive in those with certificates of CAM, those with high academic qualification, those aged 40 or below, and those working in Chungcheong-do. Conclusion: This study showed that CHPs were interested in CAM while they worried about the therapeutic effects of it. Further studies to draw cross-sectional and national data on the use patterns of CAM from the various population and standardized instruments to investigate the types of CAM were suggested.

  • In this paper, a SWB (Super-WideBand) dipole antenna with self-complementary structure is proposed for signal intelligence. The proposed antenna consists of a self-complementary dipole antenna and a tapered balun for balanced feeding. The measured -10 dB reflection bandwidth of the proposed antenna is more than 28:1 (0.73-20 GHz) and 3 dB axial ratio bandwidth is 3.25:1 (1.91-6.22 GHz) with RHCP (Right Hand Circular Polarization) at +z direction. The measured radiation patterns are omni-directional in lower frequency band and bi-directional in higher frequency band. The measured peak gain within -10 dB reflection bandwidth varies from 2.83 dBi to 7.66 dBi.
