  • This paper describes how an Artificial Neural Network(ANN) can be employed to improve a speed estimation in a vector controlled induction motor drive. The system uses the ANN to estimate changes in the motor resistance, which enable the sensorless speed control method to work more accurately. Flux Observer is used for speed estimation in this system. Obviously the accuracy of the speed control of motor is dependent upon how well the parameters of the induction machine are known. These parameters vary with the operating conditions of the motor; both stator resistance(Rs) and rotor resistance(Rr) change with temperature, while the stator leakage inductance varies with load. This paper proposes a parameter compensation technique using artificial neural network for accurate speed estimation of induction motor and simulation results confirm the validity of the proposed scheme.

  • Coulomb friction is an important factor for precise position tracking control systems. The control systems with friction causes the steady state error because of being sensitive to the change of system condition and highly nonlinear characteristics. To overcome these problems, we use an estimation scheme of Coulomb friction to experiment for it's compensating. The estimated factor for Coulomb friction is used as a feed-forward compensator to improve the tracking performance of ball-screw systems. The tracking performance was improved by compensating the estimated friction torque in the feed-forward term. And, the sliding mode control which is derived from the Lyapunov stability theorem is applied for robust stability and reducing chattering. The experimental results show that the sliding mode controller with adaptive friction compensator has a good tracking performance compared with the friction uncompensated controller.

  • The Pulse-Pre Pump Brillouin Optical Time Domain Analysis (PPP-BOTDA) technique is introduced to implement the multi-direction strain measurement. The monitoring principle is stated. The layout scheme of optical fibers is proposed. The temperature compensation formula and its realizing method are given. The experiments, under tensile load, combined bending and tensile load, are implemented to validate the feasibility of the proposed method. It is shown that the PPP-BOTDA technique can be used to discriminate the multi-direction strains with high spatial resolution and precision.

  • When a velocity-aided strapdown inertial navigation system is loaded into a torpedo subjected to an extraneous force by the current, odometer measurement errors occur seriously. In order to compensate for navigation errors induced by large odometer biases, the Kalman Filter with separate bias estimator is applied, which separately estimates an unknown bias, and corrects the state estimate produced by the bias-free Kalman Filter to reflect the effect of the bias estimate.

  • This paper presents a compensator design method for multivariable feedback control systems with saturating actuators based on the concept of the equilibrium point. Am explicit expression for the compensation matrix of the general anti-reset windup(ARW) scheme is derived by minimizing the distances between the equilibrium points. The resulting dynamics of the compensated controller exhibits the reduced model form of the unsaturated system which can be obtained by the singular perturbational method. The proposed method is applicable to any open-loop stable plants with saturating actuators whose controllers are determined by some design technique. An example is given to show the effectiveness of the proposed method.

  • This paper treats the DIS (Digital Image Stabilization) problem subject to base motions such as translation, rotation and zoom. For the local motion estimation from a raw image, the Harris corner detection algorithm is exploited to extract feature points, and comparing those of consecutive images, the zoom ratio (scale factor) is computed. For the global motion estimation, an equivalent model is derived to account for a 3-dimensional composite motion from which the center point and Euler angle can be determined. Finally, the motion compensation follows. To show the effectiveness of the present DIS scheme, experimental results for synthetic images are illustrated.

  • In this paper, the static overmodulation is proposed for the 2-phase full bridge inverter. The overmodulation strategy increases a fundamental output voltage and improves a voltage utilization up to the maximum in the overmodulation range. The linear modulation range and static overmodulation range are defined in the 2-phase full bridge inverter. The overmodulation strategies which increase a voltage utilization until the 4-step mode by linearization of the output voltage in overmodulation range are proposed. To maintain a linearity of the relation between a reference voltage and a fundamental output voltage, this paper suggests a compensation voltage, whose magnitude or phase is modified to the proposed control scheme. Simulation and experimentation results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed algorithms.

  • In this paper, we proposed a new robust control scheme to implement stable control of robot manipulators including nonlinear perameters The proposed robust controller is composed of a nonlinear controller and linear compemsation controller. It shows a good robust performance in reaching mode which does not possess invariance property. Thus, the proposed nonlinear controller showed a good robust performance in the whole region, It was illustrated that the proposed control showed a good transient response and trajectory tracking performance for robot manipulator with four joint by experiments.

  • Two adaptive nonlinear friction compensation schemes are proposed for second-order nonlinear mechanical systems with a partially known nonlinear dynamic friction model to achieve asymptotic position and velocity tracking. The first scheme has auxiliary filtered states so that a simple open-loop observer can be used. The second one has a dual-observer structure to estimate two different nonlinear aspects of the friction state. Conditions for the parameter estimates to converge to the true parameter values are presented. Simulation results are utilized to show control performance and to demonstrate the convergence of the parameter estimates to their true values.

  • It is proposed that the rotor time constant and inductance are compensated at the same time in the indirect vector control method of an induction motor. The proposed scheme compensates the rotor time constant using the difference between the Q-axis real stator current and estimated current that is calculated from the terminal voltage and current, and compensates inductance by using the difference between the D-axis real stator flux and estimated stator flux in the synchronous rotating reference frame. Although the rotor time constant and inductance vary at once, the proposed method compensates the rotor time constant and inductance with accuracy. In addition to, two variables can be compensated not only at the steady state condition, but also at the transient state, where the torque varies in a rectangular pulse waveform. Therefore, the performance of vector control is greatly improved as verified by experiment.
