This study analyzed the factors affecting urban residents' expectations and participation in community gardens to present basic data of guidelines for community garden management. Urban citizens valued the necessity of community gardens overall, especially residents with outdoor gardens. The experience of private gardens was important in perceiving the need for community gardens, which are public spaces. The creation of community gardens had high expectations for social aspects such as improving quality of life, health promotion, and community revitalization. In particular, residents living in individual housing have high expectations for revitalization of the community, and community gardens can be a mediator for forming and maintaining local communities. Through this, the citizens' perception on the role and function of the garden as a community space could be examined. Expectations for quality of life, health promotion, and community revitalization are factors affecting the necessity of community garden. Participation was high in the creation and management of the community garden, and the necessity of community gardens, expectation for community revitalization, and expectation for environmental purification are factors that affect participation in the management of community gardens. The amount of donations that the residents are willing to pay for community garden management was KRW 75,222 /year on average. Overall, residents with higher need for community gardens and higher social expectation showed higher participation. Urban citizens have high expectations for community gardens, and they perceive the importance of social aspects more than personal aspects such as community revitalization and quality of life. As a strategy for increasing community involvement, it is necessary to set up the processes, determine participants' composition and roles, and establish a system to promote participation. Considering welfare aspects such as community revitalization and improvement of residents' quality of life, motivation and administrative support for participation in the creation and management of community gardens will serve as important factors.

After latter half of the 1990 it has come out urban decline in big and middle & small cities. The purpose of this study is to review the methods of resident participation for community revitalization in civil renaissance through literature study. This study is divided into fourth parts. In the first part, the history of civil renaissance in Japan, German and England for getting grip on the situation is studied. In the second part, concepts of resident participation and community is dealed with. And the tendency of resident participation for community revitalization in civil renaissance is investigated through preceding researches. The third part and the last one are methods and conclusons and suggestions of resident participation revitalization in civil renaissance.

This study identifies the necessity and importance of innovation in rural communities and highlights the role of rural revitalization support centers in facilitating the diffusion of community innovation. The study provides a literature review and employs the survey method to verify the arguments. There is an urgent need for rural communities to be distinct, attractive, and competitive in the wake of globalization. It is clear that they must recognize the need to facilitate innovation under growing trends toward trade liberalization, environment-oriented life styles, diversified consumer needs, and a knowledge-based society. The results provide support for the legitimacy of establishing rural revitalization support centers to help community leaders and local stakeholders develop their communities. More specifically, rural communities should employ R&D outcomes from diverse fields and capacity building by community members, leaders, and local governments to foster sustainable growth by overcoming limitations in spatial access and resources. The results suggest that rural revitalization support centers can be established as intermediary organizations that can be operated to facilitate community innovation in rural development. In addition, these centers should play key roles such as empowering communities, facilitating region-specific rural development policies, motivating R&D applications for rural development, encouraging rural development networks. Further, close attention should be paid to facilitate mutual learning by expanding networks and interactions between these centers.

최근 선진국을 중심으로 로컬 커뮤니티 활성화에 관한 관심이 증폭되고 있다. 미국의 경우에는 커뮤니티 개발 조합 조직 체계 구축을 통한 로컬 커뮤니티 활성화가 활발히 진행되고 있다. 본 논문에서는 사회자본 및 공공-민간 파트너십 형성을 통한 로컬 커뮤니티 재활성화 또는 도심 재활성화의 성공 사례를 미국 필라델피아를 중심으로 분석하고자 하였다. 웨스트 필라델피아 및 유니버시티 시티 사례를 통해 로컬 커뮤니티 활성화를 위한 커뮤니티 개발 조합 참여주체 간의 성공적 파트너십 형성 및 네트워킹을 통한 성공적 지역사회 개발의 시사점을 도출하고자 하였다. 사례연구가 시사하는 한국에서의 정책적 실천적 함의로서는 로컬 스케일에서의 커뮤니티 활성화와 거버넌스로부터 시작되어 지역발전 및 국토균형개발로의 긍정적 파급효과를 기대하는 상향식 조직체계 구축 및 전략 수립이 요구된다는 것이다.

Since late 1990's the urban decline phenomenon has risen in most provincial cities in Korea. Many lively discussions have also risen about how to revitalize declined urban center. In small cities, especially resident participation is very important to revive their old vividness. The study then reviewed literatures published from 1995 to 2007 regarding resident participation in urban center revitalization for community reinvigoration. This study consists of four parts. The first part defined concepts of community and of resident participation, and included discussion about resident participation codes. In the second part, the problems about community formation and community facilities were scrutinized through preceding researches. The third and last parts suggested some propositions and strategies to draw resident participation into urban center revitalization.

With the rapid progress of urbanization today, communities among members of society have collapsed. For dealing with the collapse of communities, special laws regarding urban regeneration revitalization and support were enforced and each local government founded community centers to revitalize urban village communities. These community centers were built to play a pivotal role in communities, but they have difficulties managing and supervising. Therefore, this study aims to provide basic data for community center planning and revitalization by examining and analyzing the present state of community center spaces for creation of communities among residents and the present state of use so the existing purpose of establishment as a base space of village community revitalization can be achieved in the future. For this study, first, in the literature review, the concepts of village community and community center were established, based on a theoretical consideration, and the need of research was identified through consideration of preceding studies. Second, in relation to the present state of use, the present state of community center spaces, programs, management and supervision, locations and populations was investigated and analyzed, and community center users' basic characteristics, satisfaction and consciousness of community centers were examined and analyzed. Based on this method and analysis, this study is focused on providing basic data for community center revitalization and planning.

뉴욕 주의 커뮤니티 재활성화는 커뮤니티 중심의 계획을 기반으로 이루어지고 있으며, 이는 미국 내의 커뮤니티 계획에 있어서 일반적인 접근방법이다. 연방정부는 재정지원에만 주력하고 가능한 간섭을 하지 않고 있으며, 주정부가 재활성화에 필요한 계획, 재정, 인력, 정보 등을 지원하는 체계적인 지원체계의 수립에 더욱 노력을 기울이고 있다. 주정부는 다른 주정부, 지방정부, 대학들과 연계하여 커뮤니티의 재활성화에 필요한 인적 물적 자원들을 주의 실정에 맞게 재구성하고, 자체 지원시스템을 만들어, 커뮤니티가 스스로 재활성화 계획을 실행 할 수 있도록 돕고 있다. 본 연구에서는 뉴욕 주에서의 커뮤니티 재활성화 계획 과정이 어떻게 이루어지고 있으며, 계획과정 상 커뮤니티 구성원들의 참여가 어떻게 이루어지고 있는지, 본 연구자가 직접 참여한 The Black River Vision Plan/ City of Watertown의 사례연구를 통해 자세히 알아보았다.

Regional closed schools of about more 3,348(2010 year) have occurred all over the country according to governmental policy of 1982. Moreover, The applications of be closed school are not efficient and few studies about using community center. Also, Farmer which is the leader of revitalization of rural village could not have advantages about community center in rural area than in urban area. Therefore, The propose of study is increasing values of culture and local by using community center with closed schools. For moving ahead with study, I analysis about causes of origination of closed schools with literature and refer to the reference of the current of situation in Gyeongbuk Local Education Authority and National Statistical Office and Comprehensive Rural Community Development Program of Minister for Food, Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries of Korea for examination of conjugating closed school through community center. According to the research, community center was to be included hall, visiting center, exhibiting space, conference room, experience room, multipurpose room, dining room, welfare space and specialized room with revitalization of rural village. I proposed improvement of law and administration and suggest several cases which already in utilization.

I have analyzed four methods for revitalizing the Ibi district, a local community in Minami Awaji City in Hyogo Prefecture, using Awaji tile, a traditional product. The first analysis is of a workshop to think about the revitalization of the community using Awaji tile. The second is an evaluation of using Awaji tile in the construction of green spaces and the renewal of existing buildings. The third analysis is on the distribution of terracotta for plants to all the residents of this district and the construction of art objects using Awaji tile at the seashore and by the entrance area of a highway interchange. The fourth analysis is of the results of information sharing by a newsletter and a website. Finally, I gave questionnaires to workshop participants. As a result, visible, completed products of these efforts were evaluated positively, but more effort is required related to the newsletter and website. Overall, I could verify the compounded possibilities for revitalization of the community using Awaji tile as promoting regional industry, activating the community, and improving the landscape.

This study aims to analyze community support methods and specific attainments of UR rental housing complex S in Japan and examine the present state of community formation.. UR rental housing S is part of the community revitalization support project launched by UR Urban Agency for creating exchanges among residents in the rental housing complex and in this study, the community support project from February to November 2013 was considered. As community revitalization support tasks, five types of events and exchange meetings were held. While the events and exchange meetings continued, even the residents who did not join the residents' association began to make an exchange with each other and their identity as residents enhanced, which means there was a change in the sense of community. Moreover, it is thought that a good solution to maintaining the chance for the events and exchange meetings after the support project is that residents of the younger generation actively cooperate in management as the residents' association members. 5 years after the support project, the present condition of activities of complex residents was examined, but the Residents' Association was disbanded due to the aging of residents, a growth in residents and low participation rates of the younger generation. Besides, there is a complete absence of community activities in the complex now.
