  • In the Netherlands, Streefland(Elbers, 2003) gave a solution on how teachers can help students to participate in the process of knowledge construction by investigating constructions and activities of a community of inquiry for a primary school students(between 11 and 13 years of age). In Australia, Goos(2004) analyzed the teacher's role in creating a classroom culture of inquiry, which appeared to be taken for granted by the Grade 12 group, for the Grade 11 students by classroom observation and interviews. In Korea, because of diverse obstacles with a university entrance examination, a study about teacher's role in inquiry-oriented instruction for high school mathematics schooling has rarely appeared in the literature. The purpose of this study is to investigate teacher's role for promoting and managing inquiry-oriented mathematics instruction effectively by a case study. To fulfill this purpose, we develop inquiry-oriented instruction model by investigating teacher's role as an assistant for helping students to do mathematical activity.

  • This study compared levels of health beliefs and health behavior practices according to lifestyle pattern among adults in Seoul. A self-administered survey questionnaire was collected from a total of 1,004 Seoul residents aged 30-59 years. The levels of perceived benefit, perceived barrier, and self-efficacy from health belief model and health behavior practices were measured across multiple health behavior areas including dietary behavior, drinking, smoking, exercise, functional food consumption, and weight control behavior. Factor analysis and subsequent cluster analysis based on 28 lifestyle questions divided the subjects into four lifestyles of society-, economy-, trend-, and health-oriented lifestyle. Some general characteristics were significantly different by lifestyles. The society-oriented lifestyle was significantly higher in proportions of men and overweight. The trend-oriented lifestyle was significantly younger and spent more monthly allowance. Health-oriented lifestyle was older. The levels of health belief variables and health behavior practices significantly differed by lifestyles. Overall the health-oriented lifestyle showed more desirable levels of health belief variables and health behavior practice in various health behavior areas compared to the other lifestyles, whereas the society-oriented lifestyle was found the other way. Health belief model variables including perceived benefit, perceived barrier, and self-efficacy were generally significant in predicting the levels of various health behavior practice, with somewhat differences by lifestyle pattern and health behavior type. The study findings suggest it may be useful to segment target subjects according to lifestyle pattern in planning and administering health education programs.

The results of this study are as follows: First, as the results subdividing the residents' needs to understand the various requirements for the SCS, the composition system was classified into the fundamental SCS and the individual SCS. The fundamental SCS's to be considered as basic facilities in the planning of the multi-family housing complex, and the individual SCS to be more suited to a particular group. Second, regarding the investigation of detail guidelines in the SCS planning, it was found that there was a difference in the considered factors and the preferred locations according to the kinds of each SCS, the types of facilities, the main users of facilities, and the contents of activities available in the facilities.

  • Today's policing is toward to the Community Policing. Despite its widespread popularity, there exists a lack of common understanding among academics and practitioners alike regarding the scope of the community policing philosophy and of its ability to integrate these complementary ideas within it. These are Problem-oriented policing, broken windows, Compstat, third-party policing, and hot spots. We will present a definition of community policing and demonstrate how these other policing approaches can be incorporated into the overarching community policing philosophy. We will also discuss the potential benefits of taking such a unified approach with the hope of encouraging further integration among policing innovations.

  • Environmental problem and eco-crisis don't mean pollution itself any more, although general people have believed that environmental problems can be resolves by removing pollution. The mos important is environmental problems are linked with social structure which individualism, rationalism is extremely prevailed in the market oriented capitalism society, so public value is ignored especially. In the point of environmental education, this is very important because environmental education is not completed through schooling process, such s class learning, discussion. observation etc, but in the our practical life itself. This means that environmental education can be done by changing of lifestyle anywhere we live, and anytime. But any places governed our social life are polluted by efficiency pursuiting individualism in market oriented capitalism society. So environmental education can't hold the water in this system, in the aspect that we can't stimulate feelings of the student and general people, getting to public resource value and harmony with nature by throwing individual mind away. It is big problem. In this field, I have thought the unique space and social structure which can be used as environmental education place is small-planning community, such as Kibbutz in Israel, educational community Finhorn in Scotland, harmony community Yamagicism Village in Japan and DURE in Korea etc. For the research of this educational possibility in these small community, I visited and investigated immediately, and confirmed. In this thesis, I insist that the training process and practical life experience in this community themselves are good environmental education. So, in case of YAMAGICISM in Japan and FINDHORN in Scotland, DONGSASUP program in Korea, I introduce these small community environmental- education program.

  • This paper reviews the concept and limits of rural community development, examines the relation between consciousness education and movement, and suggests the model of social consciousness education to rural community movement. Since consciousness education is closely related to social movement methodologically, organizational and systematic community development movements for re-structuring the urban-oreiented policies and education which back up them be followed as natural consequence. Based upon the results of this study, the new paradigm is suggested. As shown in the model, new understanding of urban-rural continuum theory, new roles and concept of social consciousness education should be emphasized to solve the contemporary rural community problems. The organizational community development movement for the rural-oriented policy should be an essential process, and peoples' re-orientation, such as 'breaking stereotype', 'assumming a critical thinking toward social reality' etc., is the indispensible background of successful movement.
