  • In the application requiring the interoperability of different networks such as VoIP and wireless communication system, two speech codecs must work together with the structure of cascaded connection, tandem. Tandem has several problems such as long delay, high complexity and quality degradation due to twice complete encoding/decoding process. Transcoding is one of the best solutions to solve these problems. Transcoding algorithm is varied with the structure of source and target coder. In this paper, transcoding algorithm including the LSP conversion, the pitch estimation and new perceptual weighting filter for reducing complexity and improving qualify is proposed. These algorithms are applied to the pair of AMR md G.723.1. By employing the proposed algorithms in the transcoder, the complexity is reduced by about 20%-58% and quality is improved compared to tandem.

  • In order to publicly notify the information security (Internet or Cyber) threat level, the security companies have developed the Threat Meters. As the physical security devices are getting more intelligent and can be monitored and managed through networks, we propose a physical security threat meter (PSTM) to determine the current threat level of physical security; that is a very similar compared with the one of information security. For this purpose, we investigate and prioritize the physical security events, and consider the impact of temporal correlation among multiple security events. We also present how to determine the threshold values of threat levels, and then propose a practical PSTM using the threshold based decision. In particular, we show that the proposed scheme is fully implementable through showing the block diagram in detail and the whole implementation processes with the access controller and CCTV+video analyzer system. Finally the simulation results show that the proposed PSTM works perfectly under some test scenarios.

  • Mapping virtual process topology to physical processor topology is one of the most important design issues in parallel programming. However, the mapping problem is complicated due to the topology irregularity and routing complexity. This paper proposes a new process mapping scheme called adjacency-based mapping (AM) for irregular cluster systems assuming that the two-dimensional mesh process topology is specified as an interprocess communication pattern. The cluster systems have been studied and developed for many years since they provide high interconnection flexibility, scalability, and expandability which are not attainable in traditional regular networks. The proposed AM tries to map neighboring processes in virtual process topology to adjacent processors in physical processor topology. Simulation study shows that the proposed AM results in better mapping quality and shorter interprocess latency compared to the conventional approaches.

  • In this paper, we propose an algorithm to optimize energy efficiency in a multi-user decoupled RF energy harvesting network and experiment on the trend of energy efficiency change assuming users' various geographical distribution scenarios. In the RF energy harvesting network where both wireless data transmission and RF energy harvesting are simultaneously performed, the energy efficiency is a key indicator of network performance, and it is necessary to investigate how various factors can affect the energy efficiency. In order to increase energy efficiency effectively, we can confirm that users' distributions are important factors in the RF energy harvesting network from the simulation results.

  • As the recent rapid development of internet technology and the wide spread of multimedia communication, massive increase of network traffic causes some problems such as the lack of network paths and the bad quality of service. To resolve these problems, this paper presents a traffic control agent that can perform the dynamic resource allocation by controlling traffic flows on a DiffServ network. In addition, this paper presents a router that can support DiffServ on Linux to support selective QoS in IP network environment. To implement a method for selective traffic transmission based on priority on a DiffServ router, this paper changes the queuing discipline in Linux, and presents the traffic control agent so that it can efficiently control routers, efficiently allocates network resources according to service requests, and relocate resources in response to state changes of the network. Particularly for the efficient processing of Assured Forwarding(AF) Per Hop Behavior(PHB), this paper proposes an ACWF$^2$Q$^{+}$ packet scheduler on a DiffServ router to enhance the throughput of packet transmission and the fairness of traffic services.s.

  • With increasing use of a personal mobile computer. the Mobile IPv6 is one of the main protocols that support mobility and complies with IPv6 specification. Similar to the mobile IPv6, the mobile IPv6 also has limitations on fast moving condition. The Hierarchical Mobile IPv6 is a solution that overcomes these limitations. The Hierarchical Mobile IPv6 is a micro mobility protocol that supports fast mobile IP handover and reduces signaling overhead with Mobility Anchor Point(MAP). But until now no paging method is applied to the Hierarchical Mobile IPv6 to reduce unnecessary signaling overhead and power consumption of mobile nodes. So, the paging mechanism for the Hierarchical Mobile IPv6 is proposed in this paper. the mechanism is implemented by making use of the destination option header and extension function and the last location algorithm. The results show that the Hierarchical Mobile IPv6 with the paging ability reduces the traffic of mobile networks by removing unnecessary binding update packet generated whenever handover takes place. Also, the larger the paging size is. the less the number of BU(Binding Update) massage generated.

  • Electromagnetic compatibility(EMC) performance of the first Korea space launch vehicle(KSLV-I) should be ensured and verified in order to guarantee the normal operation among the spacecraft, ground facilities which are installed in the space center, and other wireless communication networks. For the purpose of the EMC performance verification, pertinent EMC test specifications, methods, and procedures for both the subsystems and the system should be established in consideration of operational properties and electromagnetic environmental effects. And it is required to maintain and control the EMC properties consistently in accordance with the determined specifications up to the program closing phase. In this paper, sequential management work conducted during the overall development process of the KSLV-I is explained, and not only the phased EMC test plan for each model of the KSLV-I and its subsystem but also test method, specification, and results of the verification tests are presented. And also, multipaction analysis results are presented.

  • Cellular Neural Networks(CNN) is a nonlinear information-processing system that has a locally connected characteristic and is widely used in the real-time high speed image processing. In this paper, a practical system approach of time-multiplexing CNN implementations suitable for processing large and complex images using small CNN arrays is presented and $6\times6$ CNN hardware is designed for the processing of a large image. While previous implementations are mostly suitable for black and white applications because of the thresholded outputs, our approach is especially suitable for applications in gray image processing due to the analog nature of the state node. CNN chip is designed using a 0.65${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ 2P2M(double poly, double metal) N-Well CMOS process technology. It contains about 15,400 devices on an area of about $1.85\times1.75$ md. The designed $6\times6$ CNN is tested for the edge detection of a large image input and it's performance is verified.

  • The server system of digital contents has to how the context information about client devices to provide the appropriate contents for each device effectively. CC/PP standard specification is an agreement for describing and transmission of the information related with a client device. In this case, the information on device hardware and software, networks and user's preference is included here. In the mean time, WAP forum defined W-HTTP protocol to transmit the CC/PP profile information of a client device to a server system. However, the client devices which use existing HTTP protocol to transmit their information cannot provide the CC/PP profile information to a server. In this paper, we propose an effective method to create and provide the CC/PP profile in the clients which use not only HTTP protocol but also W-HTTP protocol to transmit device information.

  • IEEE 802.15.4a standard can provide a variety of location-based services for ZigBee or wireless network applications by adapting the time-of-arrival (TOA) ranging technique. The non-line-of-sight (NLOS) condition is the critical problem in the IEEE 802.15.4a networks, and it can significantly degrade the performance of the TOA-based localization. To enhance the location accuracy due to the NLOS problem, this paper proposes an energy-efficient low complexity localization algorithm. The proposed approach performs the ranging with the multicast method, which can reduce the message overhead due to packet exchanges. By limiting the search region for the location of the node, the proposed approach can enhance the location accuracy. Experimental results show that the proposed algorithm outperforms previous algorithms in terms of the energy consumption and the localization accuracy.
