  • The recent advances in wireless communication systems and semiconductor technologies are paving the way for new applications over wireless sensor networks. Health-monitoring application (HMA) is one such emerging technology that is focused on sensing and reporting human vital signs through the communication network comprising sensor devices in the vicinity of the human body. The sensed vital signs can be divided into two categories based on the importance and the frequency of occurrence: occasional emergency signs and regular normal signs. The occasional emergency signs are critical, so they have to be delivered by the specified deadlines, whereas the regular normal signs are non-critical and are only required to be delivered with best effort. Handling the occasional emergency sign is one of the most important attributes in HMA because a human life may depend on correct handling of the situation. That is why the underlying network protocol suite for HMA should ensure that the emergency signs will be reported in a timely manner. However, HMA based on IEEE 802.15.4 might not be able to do so owing to the lack of an appropriate emergency-handling mechanism. Hence, in this paper, we propose a new emergency-handling mechanism to reduce the emergency reporting delay in IEEE 802.15.4 through the modified superframe structure. A fraction of an inactive period is modified into three new periods called the emergency reporting period, emergency beacon period, and emergency transmission period, which are used opportunistically only for immediate emergency reporting and reliable data transmission. Extensive simulation is performed to evaluate the performance of the proposed scheme. The results reveal that the proposed scheme achieves improved latency and higher emergency packets delivery ratio compared with the conventional IEEE 802.15.4 MAC.

  • In this paper, we evaluated the performance of vocoders for three-way conferencing using signal summation technique in digital mobile communication network. The signal summation technique yields natural mode of three-way conferencing, in shich the mixed voice signal from two speakers are transmitted to a third person, though there has been no useful speech coding technique for the mixed voice signal yet. We established Qualcomm code term prediction (RPE-LTP) vocoders to provide three-way conferencing using signal summation techinique. In addition, as the conventional speech quality measures are not applicable to the vocoders for mixed voice signals, we proposed two kinds of subjective quality measures. These are the sentence discrimination (SD) test and the modified degraded mean opinion score (MDMOS) test. The experimental results show that the output speech quality of the VSELP vocoder is superior to other two.

  • In this paper, we consider 19 cells with the two tiers for polar-rectangular coordinates (PRCs) and provide the cell edge performance of cellular networks based on distance from cell center i.e., BS (base station). When FFR is applied(or adopted) to cell edge, it is expected that BS cooperation, or a coordinated multipoint (CoMP) multiple access strategy will further improve the system performance. We proposed a new method to evaluate the sum rate capacity of the MIMO DC of multicell system. We improve the performance of cell edge users for intercell interference cancelation in cooperative downlink multicell systems. Simulation results show that the proposed scheme outperforms the reference schemes, in terms of cell edge SINR (signal-to-interference-noise ratio) with a minimal impact on the network path loss exponent. We show 13 dB improvements in cell-edge SINR by using reuse of three relative to reuse of one. BS cooperation has been proposed to mitigate the cell edge effect.

  • VoIP transmits voices over IP-based networks and it is the abbreviation of Voice over Internet Protocol. Recently, VoIP provides various services in addition to voices. Since VoIP services' provision is extending, VoIP service quality management is becoming an important issue. Therefore, in this paper, we study VoIP service quality management. We examine VoIP technology, service types, and network architecture. Then, we investigate key quality indicators(KQIs)/key performance indicators(KPIs) in terms of customers, not network service providers. Toward this, we also study the concept of general service quality management as well as the concept of telecommunication related service quality management. Moreover, we apply $\bar{x}$ and R charts to show how to use statistical quality control techniques in real telecommunication companies with one KQI.

  • In the wireless sensor network(WSN), the detection of precise location of sensor nodes is essential for efficiently utilizing the sensing data acquired from sensor nodes. Among various location methods, the received signal strength (RSS) based localization scheme is mostly preferable in many applications since it can be easily implemented without any additional hardware cost. Since the RSS localization method is mainly effected by radio channel between two nodes, outlier data can be included in the received signal strength measurement specially when some obstacles move around the link between nodes. The outlier data can have bad effect on estimating the distance between two nodes such that it can cause location errors. In this paper, we propose a RSS-based localization method using Robust Statistic and Gaussian filter algorithm for enhancing the accuracy of RSS-based localization. In the proposed algorithm, the outlier data can be eliminated from samples by using the Robust Statistics as well as the Gaussian filter such that the accuracy of localization can be achieved. Through simulation, it is shown that the proposed algorithm can increase the accuracy of localization and is more robust to non gaussian noise channels.

  • This study aims to complement the poor performance of existing context-aware authentication techniques in the mobile environment. The data used are GPS, Call Detail Record(CDR) and app usage. locational classification according to GPS density was implemented in order to distinguish other people in populated areas in the processing of GPS. It also handles missing values that may occur in data collection. The authentication model consists of two long-short term memory(LSTM) and one Artificial Neural Network(ANN) that aggregates the results, which produces authentication scores. In this paper, we compare the accuracy of this technique with that of other studies. Then compare the number of authentication attempts required to detect someone else's authentication. As a result, we achieved an average 11.6% improvement in accuracy and faster detection of approximately 60% of the experimental data.

  • The various uses of the Convolutional Neural Network technology are accelerating the evolution of the computing area, but the opposite is causing serious hardware performance shortages. Neural network accelerators, next-generation memory device technologies, and high-bandwidth memory architectures were proposed as countermeasures, but they are difficult to actively introduce due to the problems of versatility, technological maturity, and high cost, respectively. This study proposes DRAM-based main memory technology that enables read operations to be completed without waiting until the end of the refresh operation using pre-stored XOR bit values, even when the refresh operation is performed in the main memory. The results showed that the proposed technique improved performance by 5.8%, saved energy by 1.2%, and improved EDP by 10.6%.

  • The study uses agricultural knowledge system theory to explore how traditional knowledge applies to the linkage system of agricultural research and extension in rural Korea. By agricultural knowledge system we emphasize the dynamic networks of actors, processes of negotiation, and the diverse ways in which knowledge is constructed and performed. The knowledge systems reflect the idea that the boundaries between knowledge groups are not closed and that there could be considerable overlap between knowledge system. The results of this study are the following : First, we should know that some extension agents clearly value farmer knowledge and try to facilitate farmer-to-farmer communication. Extension plays a significant role in the knowledge-creation process and shaping communities because knowledge processes are embedded in social processes that involve aspects of power, authority, and legitimization. Third, the constructions of agricultural knowledge systems thus include social interactions, communication, and the diverse processes individuals employ create, use, and evaluate multiple types and sources of information through the linkage between agricultural colleges and Rural Development Administration (RDA), establishing the research institution of research and extension linkage, exchange research agent with extension agent, and bottom-up approach. Second, we should know that the focus of traditional knowledge development is rural community development as a community process. Nowadays the sessions of the Intergovernmental Committee of World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) cover two lines of inquiry, which are the use of existing standards of intellectual property for the protection of traditional knowledge and that of new legal standards, eventually in the from of sui generis mechanisms of protection.

  • The eigenvalue problems involving the diffraction of waves by multi-layered grating configurations can be explained by rigorous modal expansion terms. Such a modal solution can be represented by equivalent transmission-line networks, which are generalized forms of simple conventional circuits. This approach brings considerable physical insight into the grating diffraction process of the fields everywhere. In particular, the transmission-line representation can serve as a template for computational algorithms that systematically evaluate dispersion properties, radiation effects and other optical characteristics that are not readily obtained by other methods. To illustrate the validity of the present rigorous approach, the previous research works are numerically confirmed and the results agree well each other.
