An Application Layer Design for Humanoid Robot in the Controller Area Network(CAN) (CAN내장 휴머노이드 로봇에 대한 응용층 설계)

  • The Controller Area Network (CAN) is being widely used in real-time control applications such as automobiles, aircraft, and automated factories. Unfortunately, CAN, in its current form, is not able to either share out the system bandwidth among the different devices fairly or to grant an upper bound on the transmission times experienced by the nodes connected to the communication medium as it happens, for instance, in the token-based networks. In this paper, we present An Application Layer Design for Humanoid Robot in the CAN. Besides introducing the new algorithm, this paper also presents some performance figures obtained using a specially developed software simulator and experimentation for composition of CAN which uses JTAG mode of a parallel debugging., while the behavior of the new algorithm is compared with the traditional CAN systems. in order to see how effective they are.

  • This paper presents an algorithm to obtain an approximate optimal solution for the service restoration and load balancing of large scale radial distribution system in a real-time operation environment. Since the problem is formulated as a combinatorial optimization problem, it is difficult to solve a large-scale combinatorial optimization problem accurately within the reasonable computation time. Therefore, in order to find an approximate optimal solution quickly, the authors proposed an algorithm which combines optimization technique called cyclic best-first search with heuristic based feeder loadings balance index for computational efficiency and robust performance. To demonstrate the validity of the proposed algorithm, numerical calculations are carried out the KEPCO's 108 bus distribution system.

  • Medical environments incorporate complex and integrated data networks to transfer vast amounts of patient information, such as images, waveforms, and other digital data. To assure interoperability of images, waveforms and patient data, health level seven(HL7) was developed as an international standard to facilitate the communication and storage of medical data. We also adopted medical waveform description format encoding rule(MFER) standard for encoding waveform biosignal such as ECG, EEG and so on. And, the study converted a broad domain of clinical data on patients, including MFER, into a HL7 message, and saved them in a clinical database in hospital. According to results obtained in the test environment, it was possible to acquire the same HL7 message and biosignal data as ones acquired during transmission. Through this study, we might conclude that the proposed system can be a promising model for electronic medical record system in u-healthcare environment.

The Development of Visitor Counting System Based on Ubiquitous Sensor Networks in National Park: Case Study of Nogodan Area in Chirisan National Park (유비쿼터스 센서 네트워크 기반 국립공원 탐방객 통행량 계수시스템 개발)

  • The purpose of this study was to develop the national park visitor counting system using the ubiquitous sensor network. This system is composed of a sensor node, sink node, gateways, CDMA module, server, and clients. The results of the study were: 1) stable data transmission distance was possible within 100 meters between sensor nodes, 2) the developed counting sensor system showed a network communication stability level of 88.3 percent in 1.2m wide trails. When installed in concentrate use areas or forks of national parks, the visitor counting system will not only contribute to provide reliable visitor counting, but also to improve the quality of national park visitor service, to manage park facilities and natural resources more efficiently, to achieve an information oriented national park system.

  • To achieve high-speed (giga-bit) connectivity for short-range wireless multimedia applications, the millimeter-wave (mmWave) wireless personal area networks with directional antennas are gaining increased interest. Due to the use of directional antennas and mmWave communications, the probability of non-interfering transmissions increases in a localized region. Network throughput can be increased immensely by the concurrent time allocation of non-interfering transmissions. The problem of finding optimum time allocation for concurrent transmissions is an NP-hard problem. In this paper, we propose two enhanced versions of previously proposed multi-hop concurrent transmission (MHCT) schemes. To increase network capacity, the proposed schemes efficiently make use of the free holes in the time-allocation map of the MHCT scheme; thus, making it more compact.

  • While the retrial phenomenon plays an important role in communication networks and should not be ignored, retrial systems do not present an exact analytic solution, so approximate techniques are required. To the best of our knowledge, all the existing techniques are based on computing the steady states probabilities. We propose another approach based on the relative state values which appear in the Howard equations. The results of the numerical evaluation carried out show that this solution outperforms previous approaches in terms of both accuracy and computation time.

  • Backward compatibility is one of the key issues for radio equipment supporting IEEE 802.11, the typical wireless local area networks (WLANs) communication protocol. For a successful packet decoding with the backward compatibility, the frame format detection is a core precondition. This paper presents a novel frame format detection method based on a deep learning procedure for WLANs affiliated with IEEE 802.11. Considering that the detection performance of conventional methods is degraded mainly due to the poor performances in the symbol synchronization and/or channel estimation in low signal-to-noise-ratio environments, we propose a novel detection method based on convolutional neural network (CNN) that replaces the entire conventional detection procedures. The proposed deep learning network provides a robust detection directly from the receive data. Through extensive computer simulations performed in the multipath fading channel environments (modeled by Project IEEE 802.11 Task Group ac), the proposed method exhibits superb improvement in the frame format detection compared to the conventional method.

Robust Power Control for Cognitive Radio in Spectrum Underlay Networks

  • Power control is a key technique in spectrum underlay cognitive network to guarantee the interference temperature limit of the primary users (PUs) and the quality of service of the secondary users (SUs). In this paper, a robust power control scheme via link gain pricing with $H_{\infty}$ estimator is proposed. The scheme guarantees the interference temperature of the PUs through operating in the network-centric manner, and keeps the fairness between the SUs through link gain pricing. Furthermore, the $H_{\infty}$ filter is also used in the proposed scheme to estimate the channel variation, and thus the power control scheme is robust to the severe channel fading. Plenty of simulations are taken, and prove its superior robust performance against the channel fading, and its effectiveness in guaranteeing the interference temperature limit of the PUs.

An RSS-Based Localization Scheme Using Direction Calibration and Reliability Factor Information for Wireless Sensor Networks

  • In the communication channel, the received signal is affected by many factors that can cause errors. These effects mean that received signal strength (RSS) based methods incur more errors in measuring distance and consequently result in low precision in the location detection process. As one of the approaches to overcome these problems, we propose using direction calibration to improve the performance of the RSS-based method for distance measurement, and sequentially a weighted least squares (WLS) method using reliability factors in conjunction with a conventional RSS weighting matrix is proposed to solve an over-determined localization process. The proposed scheme focuses on the features of the RSS method to improve the performance, and these effects are proved by the simulation results.

  • In this paper, we suggested a RS485 based CSMA/CD protocol that is available in low speed multi-node networks such as industry control communication network and home network etc. The suggested protocol was compared to widely used Master-Slave protocol, Modbus. We modeled realistic control network and showed that the average delay and throughput performance were significantly improved in the different transmission rates.
