  • Today's wireless access networks consist of several tiers that overlap each other. Provisioning of real time undisrupted communication to mobile users, anywhere and anytime through these heterogeneous overlay networks, is a challenging task. We extend the end-to-end approach for the handoff management in hybrid wireless data network by designing a fully mobile-controlled handoff for mobile devices equipped with dual mode interfaces. By handoff, we mean switching the communication between interfaces connected to different subnets. This mobile-controlled handoff scheme reduces the service disruption time during both horizontal and vertical handoffs and does not require any modification in the access networks. We exploit the IP diversity created by the dual interfaces in the overlapping area by simultaneously connecting to different subnets and networks. Power saving is achieved by activating both interfaces only during the handoff period. The performance evaluation of the handoff is carried out by a simple mathematical analysis. The analysis shows that with proper network engineering, exploiting the speed of mobile node and overlapping area between subnets can reduce service disruption and power consumption during handoff significantly. We believe that with more powerful network interfaces our proposal of dual interfaces can be realized.

  • The exponential growth in wireless services has resulted in an overly crowded spectrum. The current state of spectrum allocation indicates that most usable frequencies have already been occupied. This makes one pessimistic about the feasibility of integrating emerging wireless services such as large-scale sensor networks into the existing communication infrastructure. Cognitive radio is an emerging dynamic spectrum access technology that can be used for flexibly and efficiently achieving open spectrum sharing. Cognitive radio is an intelligent wireless communication system that is aware of its radio environment and that is capable of adapting its operation to statistical variations of the radio frequency. In ad hoc cognitive radio networks, a common control channel (CCC) is usually used for supporting transmission coordination and spectrum-related information exchange. Determining a CCC in distributed networks is a challenging research issue because the spectrum availability at each ad hoc node is quite different and dynamic due to the interference between and coexistence of primary users. In this paper, we propose a novel CCC selection protocol that is implemented in a distributed way according to the appearance patterns of primary systems and connectivity among nodes. The proposed protocol minimizes the possibility of CCC disruption by primary user activities and maximizes node connectivity when the control channel is set up. It also facilitates adaptive recovery of the control channel when the primary user is detected on that channel.

  • This paper explores the hyperlink structures of the official websites for the following terrestrial TV networks: ABC(US), BBC(UK), NHK(Japan), and KBS(Korea). These websites were selected and visualized to analyze the hyperlink structure and examine the connection relations among the TV networks. A total of 4378 data was collected through the Voson site and were analyzed with NodeXL. Results shows that NHK's network demonstrates a good network structure at a quite high level, holding more related websites than BBC. We discovered that ABC TV network has the largest effect with the largest number of out-links. Surprisingly, structures of BBC and NHK were quite similar, overcoming geographical and cultural differences. Thus, both TV networks were seen to be progressive and open. On the contrary, ABC and KBS were considered to be relatively conservative. A comprehensive review of the "category points" combination chart revealed that NHK's official website has the widest variety of hyperlinks. The shortest distance of a hyperlink between a website type and a TV network meant that the TV network has a larger number of links to those website types than other TV networks do. The result may provide Internet users to efficiently select TV network web pages according to the types of information they want to find out.

  • This paper is proposed a newly developed approach to identify the mechanical speed of an induction motor based on artificial neural networks technique. The back propagation neural network technique is used to provide a real time adaptive estimation of the motor speed. The error between the desired state variable and the actual one is back propagated to adjust the rotor speed, so that the actual state variable will coincide with the desired one. The back propagation mechanism is easy to derive and the estimated speed tracks precisely the actual motor speed. This paper is proposed the theoretical analysis as well as the simulation results to verify the effectiveness of the new method.

  • In this paper, we analyze effects of positions of relays on the performance of cooperative communication networks. From this, the best relays are chosen to assist transmitting the signal to the destination or to replace the source to retransmit the signal to the destination whenever the destination incorrectly receives the signal from the source. As the results, we show the significant improvement on performance of schemes choosing best relays, which is compared to the performance of other cooperative schemes. Moreover, the simulation results that match exactly with the theoretical results prove the correctness of the analysis.

  • In this paper, we propose fuzzy-neural network controller that combines a fuzzy control and the Neural Networks for high performance control of induction motor drive, Also, this paper is proposed control of maximum torque per ampere of induction motor. This strategy is proposed which is simple in structure and has the honest goal of minimizing the stator current magnitude for given load torque. The performance of the proposed induction motor drive with maximum torque control using fuzzy-neural network controller is verified by simulation at dynamic operation conditions.
