  • In this paper, we have carried out some tests for analyzing the effects of optical fiber characteristics and piping structures in designing a Customer Cabling System with optical fibers. In this tests, the loss characteristics due to the number of curvatures and the radius of curvature with bending to establish an optical fiber have analyzed particularly. We can confirm that the test results satisfy the current technical regulations in both cases of the number of curvatures and the radius of curvatures. Also, in particular, since there is no loss in an optical cable under the current radius of curvature, that is 30mm, the radius criteria of curvature needs to be revised. These tests results will be so useful to revise and establish a customer cabling system for FTTH.

  • Wireless smart sensors enable new approaches to improve structural health monitoring (SHM) practices through the use of distributed data processing. Such an approach is scalable to the large number of sensor nodes required for high-fidelity modal analysis and damage detection. While much of the technology associated with smart sensors has been available for nearly a decade, there have been limited numbers of fulls-cale implementations due to the lack of critical hardware and software elements. This research develops a flexible wireless smart sensor framework for full-scale, autonomous SHM that integrates the necessary software and hardware while addressing key implementation requirements. The Imote2 smart sensor platform is employed, providing the computation and communication resources that support demanding sensor network applications such as SHM of civil infrastructure. A multi-metric Imote2 sensor board with onboard signal processing specifically designed for SHM applications has been designed and validated. The framework software is based on a service-oriented architecture that is modular, reusable and extensible, thus allowing engineers to more readily realize the potential of smart sensor technology. Flexible network management software combines a sleep/wake cycle for enhanced power efficiency with threshold detection for triggering network wide operations such as synchronized sensing or decentralized modal analysis. The framework developed in this research has been validated on a full-scale a cable-stayed bridge in South Korea.

  • The buoy-enabled underwater surveillance system is a device that is installed in a particular sea area and operated for a certain period of tine and moved to another sea area after recovery. In this paper, a mooring method which is applied for a buoy-enabled underwater surveillance system was selected to maintain installation and enure stable operation. Also, the structure of the mooring line was designed. Two-point mooring method was selected considering interference with the communication cable of array-assembly. The composite structure of buoy chain, nylon rope, and anchor chain is designed as the basic component of mooring line. For the verification of design, a numerical simulation and wave tank experiment were performed. Their results were confirmed similarity in test condition. Finally, the mooring lines were designed for the environment of the sea trial location. The mooring line produced by the final design confirmed the stability above the significant wave height considered in the design on the sea trial.

  • In Korea, video-based news broadcasters are primarily classified into terrestrial broadcasters, general programming cable broadcasters and YouTube broadcasters. Recently, news broadcasters get subjective while targeting the desired specific audience. This violates normative expectations of impartiality and neutrality on journalism from its audience. This phenomenon may have a negative impact on audience perceptions of issues. This study examined whether broadcast news reporting conveys emotions and if so, how news broadcasters differ according to emotion type. Emotion types were classified into neutrality, happiness, sadness and anger using a convolutional neural network which is a class of deep neural networks. Results showed that news anchors or reporters tend to express their emotions during TV broadcasts regardless of broadcast systems. This study provides the first quantative investigation of emotions in broadcasting news. In addition, this study is the first deep learning-based approach to emotion analysis of broadcasting news.

  • The IP cameras have rapidly replaced the analog CCTVs as the cameras have the advantages of not only being able to remotely monitor, but also supplying power through the UTP cable, In this paper, we introduce the protocol architecture of the ONVIF standard which is widely applied to the IP camera and other Internet protocols to support it, and implement the ONVIF Device on a commercial board. Although these functions can be controlled by the Client (PC), several functions such as privacy masks, temperature display of the thermal camera, and ROI (Region of Interest) are implemented through a web viewer on the device. Through the experiment, the functions of ONVIF Profile S and web viewer are verified through SOAP messages exchanged between Device (IP camera) and Client program and streamed images.

  • This study examines the regulatory issues and introduction problems of TV-betting data broadcasts in Korea by in-depth interview with a panel group. TV-betting data broadcast services of card games and horse racing games are widely in use in Europe and other parts of the world. In order to carry out the study, a demo program of TV-betting data broadcast in the OCAP(OpenCableTM Application Platform Specification) system environment, which is the data broadcasting standard for digital cable broadcasts in Korea was exposed to the panel group and then they were interviewed after watching and using the program. The results could be summarized as below. First of all, while TV-betting data broadcasts have many elements of entertainment, the respondents thought that it would be difficult to introduce TV-betting in data broadcasts as in overseas countries largely due to social factors. In addition, in order to introduce TV-betting data broadcasts, they suggested that excessive speculativeness must be suppressed through a series of regulatory system devices, such as by guaranteeing credibility of the media based on safe security systems for transactions, scheduling programs with effective time constraints to prevent the games from running too frequently, limiting the betting values, and by prohibiting access to games through set-top boxes of other data broadcast subscribers. The general consensus was that TV-betting could be considered for gradual introduction within the governmental laws and regulations that would minimize its ill effects. Therefore, the government should formulate long-term regulations and policies for data broadcasts. Once the groundwork is laid for safe introduction of TV-betting on data broadcasts within the boundary of laws and regulations, interactive TV games are expected to be introduced in Korea not only for added functionality of entertainment but also for far-ranging development of data broadcast and new media industries.

  • With the development of industry these days, the demand for electric power increases and the larger capacity for power transfer is required. The scales of facilities should become larger; and the relative systems are required to operate with a higher degree of reliability. Therefore, stabilization of electric power systems is an important issue. The high degree of reliability required in the process of production and supply of electric power is an essential part of industrial society. Accident such as blackouts causes a hugh amount of economic losses to the high-tech industrial society dependent upon electric power. This paper is about the basic study of the relations between the load current and lifetime of power cables in operation. In order to do the research, we installed a current transformer and an equipment for measuring temperature at the 6.6. kV cables in operation. The two equipments have been installed on the cable systems in operation for the last 20 years. Since the insulation resistance of most of the cables showed the value larger than the threshold, it was not easy to tell the remaining lifetime of cables. The load current of the cables was almost constant. The surrunding temperature was $15{\sim}25^{\circ}C$, little variation of temperature values.

  • The purpose of this study was to analyze information about food and nutrition presented through the television broadcast media, with the aim of finding out the optimal communication method for supplying the general public with accurate information. To perform this study, a total of sixteen monitoring people were recruited and trained before and during the study. Five domestic TV channels were selected to be monitored, and the total monitoring period was six months. For maximum efficiency, the monitoring people were assigned to 8 teams. The results of the present study can be summarized as follows : First, the total reported cases of information about food and nutrition were 237, of which about 30% were judged appropriate and 70% as inappropriate. Second, classifying each case by program type, information programs made up the highest portion at 82 cases (34.6%), cooking programs accounted for 76 cases (32.1%), news programs for 40 cases (16.9%), and entertainment programs for 7 cases (3.0%). The analysis showed that the greatest amount of incorrect information was found in dramas, followed by entertainment, information, cooking and news programs. Third, classifying each case by theme of contents monitored, meal preparation and cookery made up the highest portion at 86 cases (36.3%), foods accounted for 67 cases (28.3%), disease and diet-therapy for 40 cases (16.9%), eating habits for 31 cases (13.1%), and diet and fitness for 13 cases (5.5%). Incorrect information was conveyed most often on the themes of food habits, foods, disease and diet-therapy, cookery, and diet and fitness. Fourth, classifying each case by channel, Cable TV had the highest frequency at 72 cases (30.4%), MBC had 51 cases (21.5%), SBS had 43 cases (18.1%), KBS1 had 41 cases (17.3%) and KBS2 had 30 cases (12.7%). In conclusion, systematic monitoring should be continued to reduce the frequency of incorrect information being broadcast and to help ensure that accurate information is conveyed to the general public. Moreover, there should be a system of cooperation to provide information to help broadcast production teams establish a strategic program. Finally, it is essential to organize an advisory team by promoting links between the mass media and specialists in the field, and to develop an educational program on nutrition to help ensure the communication of accurate information on food and nutrition. • Internet was first designed only for sending data, but as the time passed, internet started to evolve into a broadband multi-media web that is capable of transmitting sound, video, high-capacity data and more due to the demands of internet users and the rapid changing internet-communication technology. Domestically, in January, 2000 Saerom C&T, launched a free VoIP, but due to limited ways of conversation(PC to PC) and absence of a revenue model, and bad speech quality, it had hit it's growth limit. This research studied VoIP based on technological enhancement in super-speed internet. According to IDC, domestic internet market's size was 80,800 million in 2008, and it formed a percentage of 12.5% out of the whole sound-communication market. in case of VoIP, it is able to maximize it's profit by connecting cable and wireless network, also it has a chance of becoming firm-concentrated monopoly market by fusing with IPTV. Considering the fact that our country is insignificant in MVNO revitalization, regulating organizations will play a significant roll on regulating profit between large and small businesses. Further research should be done to give VoIP a secure footing to prosper and become popularized.
