  • This paper deals with pulse multiplication in zigzag connected autotransformer based 12-pulse AC-DC converters feeding vector controlled induction motor drives (VCIMD) for improving the power quality at the point of common coupling (PCC) without using a Zero-Sequence-Blocking-Transformer (ZSBT). The proposed 24-pulse AC-DC converter is based on the principle of DC ripple re-injection technique for pulse multiplication and harmonic mitigation. The design of the autotransformer is carried out for the proposed AC-DC converter and the effect of load variation on VCIMD is also studied to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed AC-DC converter. Test results from a laboratory developed prototype, along with simulated results, are presented to validate the design and model of the proposed 24-pulse AC-DC converter.

  • Dead time is typically incorporated in voltage source inverter systems to prevent short circuit cases. However, dead time causes an error between the output voltage and reference voltage. Hence, voltage equation-based algorithms, such as motor parameter estimation and back electromotive force (EMF)-based sensorless algorithms, are prone to estimation errors. Several dead-time compensation methods have been developed to reduce output voltage errors. However, voltage errors are still common in zero current crossing areas, and an effect of the error is much worse in a low speed region. Therefore, employing voltage equation-based algorithms in low speed regions is difficult. This study analyzes the conventional dead-time compensation method and output voltage errors in low speed operation areas. A current shaping method that can reduce output voltage errors is also proposed. Experimental results prove that the proposed method reduces voltage errors and improves the accuracy of the parameter estimation method and the performance of the back EMF-based sensorless algorithm.

  • Several polysilanes with sterically bulky substituents such as poly(2-phenylpropyl)(n-hexyl)silane were prepared by Wurtz-type coupling. The polysilane products were mixtures of low-molecular-weight polymers (&bar{M};w~103) as major and high-molecular-weight polymers (&bar{M};w~106) as minor. Overall yields for polysilanes were in the range of 81-99%. λmax of liquid low MW polymers appeared at around 280 nm. Formations of solid high MW polymers were decreased by a longer reaction time and increased steric bulkiness of substituents. High MW polymers with λmax at 327 nm except crosslinked polymers were soluble in common organic solvents and found to be light sensitive. Crosslinked high MW polymer gave 21% TGA ceramic yield, compared with linear high polymer giving zero ceramic yield.

  • Let $M^{2n+1}$, $n{\geq}1$, be a smooth manifold with a pseudoconvex integrable CR structure of hypersurface type. We consider a sequence of CR invariant subsets $M={\mathcal{S}}_0{\supset}{\mathcal{S}}_1{\supset}{\cdots}{\supset}{\mathcal{S}}_n$, where $S_q$ is the set of points where the Levi-form has nullity ${\geq}q$. We prove that ${\mathcal{S}}{_q}^{\prime}s$ are locally given as common zero sets of the coefficients $A_j$, $j=0,1,{\ldots},q-1$, of the characteristic polynomial of the Levi-form. Some sufficient conditions for local existence of complex submanifolds are presented in terms of the coefficients $A_j$.

  • The effect of the vibration mode coupling induced by the vibration-rotation interaction on total energy was investigated for the states with zero total angular momentum(J=0) in a quasilinear symmetric triatomic molecule of $AB_2$ type using a model potential function with a slight potential barrier to linearity. It is found that the coupling energy becomes larger for the levels of bend and asymmetric stretch modes and smaller for symmetric stretch mode as the excitation of the vibrational modes occurs. The results for the real molecule of $CH_2^+$, which is quasilinear, generally agree with the results for the model potential function in that common mode selective dependence of coupling energy is exhibited in both cases. The differences between the results for the model and real potential function in H-C-H system are analyzed and explained in terms of heavy mixing of the symmetric stretch and bend mode in excited vibrational states of the real molecule of $CH_2^+$. It is shown that the vibrational mode coupling in the potential energy function is primarily responsible for the broken nodal structure and chaotic behavior in highly excited levels of $CH_2^+$ for J= 0.

  • Element failure occurs with high probability for every array used in the real world ; that is, it is a common phenomenon that there are one or more elements with no output. Element failure produces an elevated sidelobe level and fails to reject the interference signals in an adaptive beamformer. In this paper, we present the adaptive beamforming algorithm for array with element failure. The presented method minimizes the array output power subject to a set of linear constraints which maintain the frequency response in the look direction and force the weights of the inoperative elements to zero. Numerical results have been included.

  • The purpose of this study is to examine the effect of caffeine intake on sleep duration of college students. The data collection period was April 6 to June 30, 2023, and 381 samples were used for final analysis. The general characteristics of the subjects were 38.6% daily water intake of less than 1 liter, caffeine beverage intake was 36.5% once to twice a week, 25.2% three to four times, 13.9% five to six times, 14.7% zero times, and 9.7% more than seven times. The most common purpose of caffeine intake was "to wake up" at 54.6%. factors affecting the subjects' sleep were Caffeine drinks besides coffee and grades. Since this study confirmed that non-coffee caffeine drinks affect sleep duration among caffeine drinks available to students, it is necessary to provide education on caffeine intake control and information that the maximum daily intake is 400 mg for college students.

  • Nitrate is a common contaminant in groundwater aquifer. The present study investigates the performance of the bipolar zero valent iron (ZVI, $Fe^0$) packed bed electrolytic cell in removing nitrate in different operating conditions. The packing mixture consists of ZVI as electronically conducting material and silica sand as non-conducting material between main cathode and anode electrodes. In the continuous experiments for the simulated wastewater (contaminated groundwater, initial nitrate about 30 mg/L as N and electrical conductivity about 300 ${\mu}S/cm$), over 99% removal of nitrate was achieved in the applied voltage 600 V and at the flow rate of 20 mL/min. The optimum packing ratio (v/v) and flow rate were determined to be 1:1~2:1 (silica sand to ZVI), 30 mL/ min respectively. Effluent pH was proportional to nitrate influx concentration, and ammonia which is the final product of nitrate reduction was about 60% of nitrate influx. Magnetite was observed on the surface of the used ZVI as major oxidation product.
