  • This paper proposes speaker recognition algorithm which includes the pitch parameter for the peak and valley. The time-frequency hybrid method for pitch extraction is valuable in that it can improve resolution in the time domain and accuracy in the frequency domain at the same time. It makes reference pattern using membership function and performs vocal track recognition of common character using fuzzy pattern matching in order to include time variation width for non-linear utterance for proposed method, speaker recognition experiments are carried out using vowels and number sounds.

  • Many isolated word recognition systems may generate irrelevant words for recognition results because they use only acoustic information or small amount of language information. In this paper, I propose word similarity that is used for selecting (or removing) less common words from candidates by applying Levenshtein distance. Word similarity is obtained by using positional accuracy that reflects the frequency information along to character's alignment information. This paper also discusses various improving techniques of selection of disparate words. The methods include different loss values, phone accuracy based on confusion information, weights of candidates by ranking order and partial comparisons. Through experiments, I found that the proposed methods are effective for removing heterogeneous words without loss of performance.

  • This paper proposes a way to measure the displacement of a multi-point by using a pattern recognition from video signal. Generally in measuring displacement, gab sensor, which is a displacement sensor, is used. However, it is difficult to measure displacement by using a common sensor in places where it is unsuitable to attach a sensor, such as high-temperature areas or radioactive places. In this kind of places, non-contact methods should be used to measure displacement and in this study, images of CCD camera were used. When multi-point is measure by using a pattern recognition, it is possible to measure displacement with a non-contact method. It is simple to install and multi-point displacement measuring device so that it is advantageous to solve problems of spatial constraints.

  • Purpose: Trauma is one of the most common and lethal causes of death in Korea, especially in people under the age of 40. However, a considerable percentage of trauma patients are lost each year due to the scarce resources of the trauma system. The purpose of this study was to determine the recognition of trauma and trauma system. Methods: From April 8th to 22nd, 2014, visitors and in-patients in our medical center were interviewed and surveyed with a questionnaire, which included 28 questions regarding the trauma system, such as the most common cause of death, the locations of trauma centers, the importance of trauma centers, and consent for supporting trauma centers financially. Results: The majority of the respondents recognized trauma as a common cause of death; this was particularly true for people younger than 40. Most respondents' expectancy for the optimal time for trauma patient transport was high, recognizing that major trauma patients should receive urgent care. The respondents felt that trauma centers are important and needed, just as much as police stations and libraries are. Among 178 respondents, 140 (80.5%) were willing to financially support the trauma system. Conclusion: The respondents were aware of the seriousness of trauma and generally agreed on the need for trauma centers. In order to meet the needs and the demands of the people, and to reduce preventable death rate, the trauma system should be improved not only in quality but also in quantity with better and more facilities and manpower, with the aid of publicity from trauma organizations and funding from the government.

  • Recently attempts to we the syllable as the recognition unit to enhance performance in continuous speech recognition hate been reported. However, syllables are worse in their trainability than phones and the former have a disadvantage in that contort-dependent modeling is difficult across the syllable boundary since the number of models is much larger for syllables than for phones. In this paper, we propose a method to enhance the trainability for the syllables in Korean and phoneme-context dependent syllable modeling across the syllable boundary. An experiment in which the proposed method is applied to word recognition shows average 46.23% error reduction in comparison with the common syllable modeling. The right phone dependent syllable model showed 16.7% error reduction compared with a triphone model.

  • This paper proposes a novel pattern recognition approach based on the radial basis function (RBF) neural network for identifying insulation defects of high-voltage electrical apparatus arising from partial discharge (PD). Pattern recognition of PD is used for identifying defects causing the PD, such as internal discharge, external discharge, corona, etc. This information is vital for estimating the harmfulness of the discharge in the insulation. Since an insulation defect, such as one resulting from PD, would have a corresponding particular pattern, pattern recognition of PD is significant means to discriminate insulation conditions of high-voltage electrical apparatus. To verify the proposed approach, experiments were conducted to demonstrate the field-test PD pattern recognition of cast resin current transformer (CRCT) models. These tests used artificial defects created in order to produce the common PD activities of CRCTs by using feature vectors of field-test PD patterns. The significant features are extracted by using nonlinear principal component analysis (NLPCA) method. The experimental data are found to be in close agreement with the recognized data. The test results show that the proposed approach is efficient and reliable.

  • A system for the recognition of machine printed Arabic script is proposed. The Arabic script is shared by three languages i.e., Arabic, Urdu and Farsi. The three languages have a descent amount of vocabulary in common, thus compounding the problems for identification. Therefore, in an ideal scenario not only the script has to be differentiated from other scripts but also the language of the script has to be recognized. The recognition process involves the segregation of Arabic scripted documents from Latin, Han and other scripted documents using horizontal and vertical projection profiles, and the identification of the language. Identification mainly involves extracting connected components, which are subjected to Principle Component Analysis (PCA) transformation for extracting uncorrelated features. Later the traditional K-Nearest Neighbours (KNN) algorithm is used for recognition. Experiments were carried out by varying the number of principal components and connected components to be extracted per document to find a combination of both that would give the optimal accuracy. An accuracy of 100% is achieved for connected components >=18 and Principal components equals to 15. This proposed system would play a vital role in automatic archiving of multilingual documents and the selection of the appropriate Arabic script in multi lingual Optical Character Recognition (OCR) systems.
