Performance Comparison of Four-Parameter Correlation Equations of the Enthalpy of Vaporization

  • A few commonly used correlation equations of the enthalpy of vaporization essential to the analysis of refrigeration cycles are reviewed. A new four-parameter correlation equation is proposed assuming that the enthalpy of vaporization could be represented with a linear form of the temperature and an additional function which slowly decreases as the temperature increases. It is not a common practice to measure the enthalpy of vaporization by experiment; therefore, performance of the new correlation is examined using numeric data from the ASHRAE tables for 22 pure substance refrigerants. The new correlation equation and other existing ones are fitted to the data optimizing the root mean squared deviation. All data points are weighted equally and NBP (normal boiling point) is used as a fixed point since the NBP is important for refrigeration application. The new four-parameter equation yields an average absolute deviation of 0.05% for 22 refrigerants which is smaller than those of other four-parameter equations, such as Guermouche-Vergnaud (0.08%), Aerebrot (0.13%), Radoz-Lyderson (0.08%), and Somayajulu four-parameter equation (0.08%).

  • Faults on power systems are inevitable phenomena. These faults can be classified by two categories, temporary and permanent faults. Without distinction of fault types, the faults would induce several changes on power system such as transmission line trip. Especially, the most common phenomena which loads experience by the power system fault is voltage sag. Voltage sags mean that the bus voltage maintains under 0.9 p.u. of rating for several cycles, and they give serious effects to operation of load devices. To ensure proper operation of the load, the flywheel systems, one of the energy storage system, are suggested in this paper. This paper demonstrates the efficiency of flywheel energy storage system against voltage sag by PSCAD/EMTDC simulation.

304 스테인레스강 용접부 잔류응력에 미치는 예열 효과의 유한요속 해석 (Finite Element Analysis of Effect of Preheating on the Residual Stress in 304 Stainless Steel Weldment)

  • This study aimed at he experimental and finite element analytic investigation of the effect of preheating on he residual stress of weldment. In this study, an autogenous arc welding was used on type 304 stainless steel and MARC as F.E.M. common code was utilized in analysis The analyses include transient and moving heat source and thermal properties as function of temperature. During welding, the thermal cycles of four locations in the weldment were recorded to investigate of the behavior of thermal stress and residual stress. The experimental and analytic results had good coincidence and show that there are two factors influencing the formation of welding residual stress in preheat process. One is the elevation of welding equilibrium temperature and the other is the increase of amount of heat input. The former decrease welding residual stress and the latter increase welding residual stress. Therefore, the cumulative effects result in the welding residual stress not being improved significantly with preheating in 304 stainless steel.

보급형 He-Ne 타원해석기의 제작과 $TiO_2$ 박막 유효밀도 변화의 in-situ 측정 (Fabrication of He-Ne ellipsometer and in-situ measurement of effective density variation of $TiO_2$thin films)

  • We have fabricated an in situ ellipsometer operating at He-Ne wavelength. It can be applied to the real-time, in-situ tracking of the ellisometric change which occurs during various sample treatments. As a rotating analyzer type, all optical elements and related parts are designed to share a common hollow-axis configuration, and hence the ellipsometer is compact in shape and simple in design. It is mountable on the spare ports of vacuum chamber with ease. Using this ellipsometer, we observed the effective density variation of previously grown $TiO_2$ thin films by using electron beam evaporation. The packing density of the as-grown film was 82%. When exposed to atomsphere, the micro-void of the film was filled with water vapor. This water-filled $TiO_2$ thin film was subject to heating/cooling cycles in vacuum and the ellipsometric variation versus temperature and cycling number was measured in real time using this in situ He-Ne ellipsometer.

  • It is common to assume identical allowable safety factors in static strength defined by mean stress and in fatigue, defined by stress amplitude. Under the load with asymmetrical cycles the safety factor is not the same. In this paper, with the consideration of unequal allowable safety (actors a general method for estimating fatigue reliability of a machine element under a combined state of stress is derived based on the theory proposed by Prof. Kececioglu and a normal distribution. The calculation of fatigue reliability fur limited life is discussed with example.

Thyroid dysfunction and subfertility

  • The thyroid hormones act on nearly every cell in the body. Moreover, the thyroid gland continuously interacts with the ovaries, and the thyroid hormones are involved in almost all phases of reproduction. Thyroid dysfunctions are relatively common among women of reproductive age, and can affect fertility in various ways, resulting in anovulatory cycles, high prolactin levels, and sex hormone imbalances. Undiagnosed and untreated thyroid disease can be a cause of subfertility. Subclinical hypothyroidism (SCH), also known as mild thyroid failure, is diagnosed when peripheral thyroid hormone levels are within the normal reference laboratory range, but serum thyroid-stimulating hormone levels are mildly elevated. Thyroid autoimmunity (TAI) is characterized by the presence of anti-thyroid antibodies, which include anti-thyroperoxidase and anti-thyroglobulin antibodies. SCH and TAI may remain latent, asymptomatic, or even undiagnosed for an extended period. It has also been demonstrated that controlled ovarian hyperstimulation has a significant impact on thyroid function, particularly in women with TAI. In the current review, we describe the interactions between thyroid dysfunctions and subfertility, as well as the proper work-up and management of thyroid dysfunctions in subfertile women.

국방 무기체계 연구개발을 위한 품질경영 모델 제안 (Quality Management Model for Research and Development of Defense Weapon Systems)

  • Quality management is essential to achieve the desired quality throughout a program. Especially in phase of research and development(R&D) of a program, that is an effective and efficient way to achieve the quality goals and improve the quality of a program in total life cycles. For applying the quality management to a R&D program, characteristics of the program should be considered in various aspects. In this study, the characteristics of developments of defense weapon systems were analyzed and the meaning of quality in that field was defined. And then, application methods of the quality management were established and the quality management model with four view points(external, organization, programs, practices) was proposed. In addition, detailed tasks of the quality management activities were described and some examples of applying the model were introduced.

초유동 콘크리트의 2차제품 적용에 관한 연구 (Application of the Pre-cast Concrete of the Super Flowing Concrete)

  • This study is the experimental results on the applicability of the super flowing concrete, which is the pre-cast concrete, to various cases. The primary purpose of this study is to verify the demolding strength, the handling strength of the super flowing concrete at various curing conditions, and the site quality control of the DWS (Daewoo Multi-Room Modular Construction System). From the experimental works, required strength and curing cycles are satisfied. Furthermore site quality control details and quality of the pre-cast concrete using the super flowing concrete are obtained. From now on, this study may suggest how to apply the super flowing concrete for common circumstance.

  • In spite of significant nonlinearities even in the simplest model, some types of steady-state and dynamic behavior common for nonlinear systems have never been associated with distillation columns. In recent years, multiplicity of steady states has been a subject of much research and is now widely accepted. Subsequently, stability of steady states has been explored. Another phenomenon that. although widely observed in chemical reactors, has not been associated with models of distillation columns is the existence of periodic oscillations. In this article we study the steady-state and dynamic behavior of the azeotropic distillation of the ternary homogeneous system methanol-methyl butyrate-toluene. Our simulations reveal nonlinear behavior not reported in earlier studies. Under certain conditions, the open-loop distillation system shows a sustained oscillation associated with branching to periodic solutions. The limit cycles are accompanied by traveling waves inside the column. Significant underdamped oscillations are also observed over a wide range of product rates.

Effect of unani formulation in PCOS: A case report

  • PCOS is the most common endocrine pathology in females of reproductive worldwide. The prevalence ranges between 5% and 15% depending on the diagnostic criteria applied.Its etiology involves both genetic and environmental factors. Typically, women with PCOS show clinical and biochemical hyperandrogenism, oligoanovulation, and micropolycystic morphology of the ovaries. Unani formulation containing Nankhwah, Badiyan and Wajturki possessing the properties of Mudirr-i-Bawl-o- Hayd, mujaff -iBalgham, Munaffis-i- balgham, Muhallil, Muqawwi-i-Jigar were used in the form of Joshanda 6gm BD Starting from 5 days prior to expected period date to 5 days during menses for 3 cycles, which led to regain regularity of menses, correcting the amount of flow and reducing the ovarian volume on US. Thus unani medications have the potential to treat ths symtoms of PCOS and improve the quality of life of women.
