  • This study deals with a resonant converter of an anti-start air conditioner compressor for commercial vehicles. The anti-start air conditioner compressor must generally have a high current, high efficiency, a low volume, and a low weight. To reduce the switching losses and voltage and current stresses of the device, the anti-start air conditioner compressor applies the full-bridge L-C resonant converter topology. Hardware parameters are designed to have a wide voltage range, and the switching frequency range of the L-C resonant converter is determined. Simulation is implemented using PSIM and an experiment is performed to verify the proposed converter.

A Study on Thermostable Property of High Density Graphites Products with Expanded Graphite(1) (고밀도 팽창흑연 성형품의 내열 특성에 관한 연구(1))

  • Thermostable property is one of most important characteristics of graphite. Commercial graphites sheet from expanded graphite is using for high-temperature elements. Nowadays the new plant with high performance is developed in field of chemical industries, so the need of graphites is increasing rapidly. In this paper, the thermostable properties of newly developed graphite products with high density is investigated. I introduced the graphite material which developed for these heat tests by NGF method in order to test thermostable properties by comparing to the results of the commercial graphite sheet from expanded graphite in same condition. Through measuring the weight reducing ratio with various specimens in some conditions, I investigated the thermostable characteristics of these materials. It is verified that the graphite products by NGF method has almost same or superior thermostable properties comparing with that of commercial graphite sheet. Also the graphite products by NGF method have possibility of being better in thermostable properties.

  • A study on the available power of a wind turbine to be used for wind farm control was performed in this study, To accurately estimate the available power it is important to obtain a suitable wind which represents the three dimensional wind that the wind turbine rotor faces and also used to calculate the power. For this, two different models, the equivalent wind and the wind speed estimator were constructed and used for dynamic simulation using matlab simulink. From the comparison of the simulation result with that from a commercial code based on multi-body dynamics, it was found that using the hub height wind to estimate available power from a turbine results in high frequency components in the power prediction which is, in reality, filtered out by the rotor inertia. It was also found that the wind speed estimator yielded less error than the equivalent wind when compared with the result from the commercial code.

  • Portable multimedia Player (PMP) devices have been gaining in its popularity with the emerging digital convergence of data, video, audio, etc. Since the PMP devices are typically equipped with DSP, a bigger LCD screen, and a hard disk, efficient power management has become more crucial than the other portable devices. This paper builds up a hardware/software-based power measurement system based on data acquisition devices. Subsequently, it measures and analyzes the power consumed in commercial PMP devices under different types of events: the system boot & shutdown, video playback, and the use of different video-coding types. Finally, our analysis of the measured power consumption patterns reveals useful information for the design of low-power PMP devices.

Computational Thermal Flow Analysis of a Cabin Cooler for a Commercial Vehicle (상용차용 캐빈냉방기의 전산 열유동 해석)

  • The steady three-dimensional computational thermal flow analysis using standard k-${\varepsilon}$ turbulence model was carried out to investigate the heat transfer characteristics of a cabin cooler for a commercial vehicle. The heat exchanging method of this cabin cooler is to use the cooling effect of a thermoelectric module. In view of the results so far achieved, the air system resistance of a cabin cooler is about 12.4 Pa as a static pressure, and then the operating point of a cross-flow fan considering in this study is formed in the comparatively low flowrate region. The air temperature difference obtained from the cold part of an thermoelectric module is about $26^{\circ}C$, and the cooling water temperature difference obtained from the hot part of an thermoelectric module is about $3.5^{\circ}C$.

  • For small capacity rectifier circuits such as these for consumer electronics and appliances. capacitor input type rectifier circuits are generally used Consequently. various harmonics generated within the power system become a serious Problem. Various studies of this effect have been presented previously. However. most of these employ switching devices, such as FETs and the like. The absence of switching devices makes systems more tolerant to over -load, and brings low radio noise benefits. We propose a power factor correction scheme using a LC resonant in commercial frequency without switching devices. In this method. It makes a sinusoidal wave by widening conduction period using the current resonance in commercial frequency. Hence, the harmonic characteristics can be significantly improved. where the lower order harmonics. such as the fifth and seventh orders are much reduced. The result are confirmed by the theoretical and expermental implementations.

Here, the heat exchanging method of this cabin cooler uses the cooling effect of a thermoelectric module. In consequence, the air system resistance of a cooler within the cabin is about 12.1 Pa as a static pressure, and then the operating point of a virtual cross-flow fan considering in this study is formed in the comparatively low flowrate region. The discharging air temperature of a cooler is about $14{\sim}15^{\circ}C$. Moreover, the air cooling temperature difference obtained under the outdoor cabin temperature of $40^{\circ}C$ shows about $7{\sim}9^{\circ}C$ in a driver resting space and about $9{\sim}14^{\circ}C$ in the front of a driver's seat including the space of a driver's foot.

  • For the application of simultaneous $DeSO_{2}\;&\;DeNO_{x}$ equipment using non-thermal plasma process to the industrial and power plants, the many types of plasma device and process were studied. The e-beam and pulsed plasma corona discharge process are outstanding for the study to apply commercial large-scale plant from among these. In this paper, non-thermal plasma of technical trends and the characteristics of system developed by Doosan heavy industries & construction Co., Ltd. are explained. We have researched pulsed plasma corona discharge process since 1994. At the basis of reasonable results for the pilot plant, we constructed the demonstration plant at a domestic coal-fired power plant in 1999, as the previous step for commercial use. In near future, enough information about designs and costs of commercial-size system will be obtained.

  • Several efforts to replace the use of existing fossil energy resources have already been made around the world. As a result, a new industry of renewable energy has been created, and efficient energy distribution and storage has been promoted intensively. Among the newly explored renewable energy sources, the most widely used one is solar energy generation, which has a high market potential. An energy storage system (ESS) is a system as required. In this paper, the design and implementation of an ESS for the efficient use of power in stand-alone street lights is presented. In current ESS applied to stand-alone street lights, either 12V~24V DC (from solar power) or 110V~220V AC (from commercial power) is used to recharge power in systems with lithium batteries. In this study, an ESS that can support both solar power and commercial power was designed and implemented; it can also perform emergency recharge of portable devices from solar powered street lights. This system can maximize the scalability of ESSes using lithium batteries with efficient energy conversion, with the advantage of being an eco-friendly technology. In a ripple effect, it can also be applied to smart grids, electric vehicles, and new, renewable storage markets where energy storage technology is required.
