  • The innovation of information and communication technology has brought the emergence of the digital economy in which the growing importance of the Internet for the production and consumption of information has caused a rapid increase of commercial domains. Domains are basic form of Internet address for the delivery of information, but the location of registered commercial domains is not free from a spatial context. Utilizing a database of commercial domain registrations, spatial statistical methods and GIS, the spatial dimensions of the commercial domains are explored for the city of Seoul. Through this research, it was found that the commercial domains were unevenly distributed, namely 44% of commercial domains are located at 3 Gus in Seoul. The locations of commercial domains by themselves represented a strong spatial autocorrelation among adjacent places. In order to identify factors affecting spatial variation in the development of the commercial domains among Dongs, a conditional spatial autoregressive model which effectively eliminates a spatial autocorrelation was used. As a result of this research, it is clearly shown that the selective location of firms having commercial domains and their role in economic activities are influencing the spatial structure of urban with dynamic mix of spatial characteristic.

  • The CC-NUMA based, distributed shared memory is an emerging architecture for multiprocessor computer systems because of its scalability and easy of programming. In this paper, we analyzed performance of a ring-based, CC-NUMA multiprocessor computer system using a commercial workload targeted for popular OLTP applications. Based on the traces collected from real machines, the characteristics of the commercial workload could be obtained. The simulation results showed that the bottleneck on the ring could be effectively removed by using a dual ring structure. We believe our simulation methodology and results will help us to design better multiprocessor computer systems for commercial application domains.

  • Purpose Recently, 3D factory simulation technology has emeged as a powerful tool for modeling and analysis of a wide range of production systems, however, it has been not paid much attention in Korea. In this context, this paper aims to provide a comprehensive literature review on discrete event simulation softwares and introduce a promising 3D factory simulation software called FlexSim and its application domains. Design/methodology/approach In order to demonstrate worldwide popularity and technical superiority of FlexSim software, we analyzed the recent list of rankings for commercial discrete simulation softwares released by winter simulation conference and users' opinions collected from business software review site. Moreover, several main application domains are derived from a review of the previous research papers that deal with applications of FlexSim software. Findings FlexSim software recently moved up the list of major commercial simulation softwares, and technical superiorities of the software demonstrate that it is a promising tool for practical 3D factory simulation. Moreover, recent research papers suggest that FlexSim software can be used as a component of smart factory system. In this context, it is expected that FlexSim software becomes more popular in the era of industry 4.0.

  • A number of previous studies have maintained that information technologies, due to their ability to overcome distance, can nurturing an innovative class of polycentric urban configurations, i.e., network cities. The present study intends to clarify whether any network relationship has recently been emerged among Korean cities by the advancement of information technology. The analyses focused on the geography of Korean national domains (.kr domains), and the hyperlink associations among three major types of domains, namely commercial, academic, and organizational domains. The study findings altogether indicate that the advancement of global economy and information era appears to be enhancing, rather than reducing the status of primate city. Seoul dominates the entire nation, forming an enclave in the production and consumption of information. Only the domains of educational institutes show network-like relations among local centers to a certain extent. The paper concludes with a discussion on the implications of the findings for future research and ‘spatial’ policy measures.

  • Induction heating is a process that is accompanied with magnetic and thermal situation. This paper presents a simulation of a magneto-thermal coupled problem of an induction heating process for moving inductor coil. In the magnetic and thermal analyses, temperature-dependent magnetic and thermal material properties were considered. As the inductor coil moves in the process, solution domains corresponding to inductor changes into those of the air, and the solution domains of air change into those of the inductor. For these reasons, modeling of induction heating process is very difficult with general purpose commercial programs. In this paper, induction heating process for moving coil was simulated with the concept of traveling the position of the heating planes. Finite element program was developed and finite element results were compared with the experimental results.

  • The wireless mesh networks are recently getting much attention for commercial applications. In such networks, the service should be uninterrupted when roaming from one domain to another while the authentication for a secure access should be maintained. The challenge is to consider the authentic coordination between the home domain and foreign domains and the maintenance of local authenticity between foreign domains. In this paper, a novel authentication method is presented so that a mobile mesh node can be effectively authenticated and obtain an secure connection in foreign domains. In the proposed method, the authentication process does not rely on an end-to-end connection between the foreign domain and the home domain. Even without a connectivity to the home domain, the foreign domain can provide an effective authentication of a mesh node by consulting one of the neighboring foreign domains that has been visited by the mobile mesh node. In order to verify the performance of our proposed method, a qualitative analysis has been performed and compared to those of conventional methods. The results show that our method is superior to the conventional ones in terms of authentication response time and authentication service robustness.

  • From the viewpoint of invigorating Korean film-market, the commercial success of films can be regarded as a very important virtue. Such marketability of films will be determined at the stage of planning and development before that of film-making. In order for ideas and scenarios which are the foundation of film-making to have any commercial virtue, a commercial verification at this stage should intervene, which should be the basis of the understanding a lot of texts and the trends in the entire culture. It is the very time that the efforts for improving the stage of planning and development and certain alternatives are needed for the qualitative growth of Korean films and the systematic development of their industrial aspects, for any efficient alternatives for the stage of planning and development will bring about an important result that the commercial success of Korean films expand the meaning into the domains of creativeness and artistry.

  • Finite element analysis for induction heating process including magnetic and thermal situations is presented. Because magnetic and thermal material properties vary with the temperature, material properties depending on temperature are considered. As the inductor moves, the solution domains corresponding to the inductor change into those of the air and the solution domains corresponding to the air change into those of the inductor. For these reasons, modeling of induction heating process is very difficult with a general purpose commercial programs. In this paper, three dimensional analysis of induction heating process for moving inductor is analyzed using moving coordinate. The skin effect is confirmed inside the steel plate in the electro-magnetic analysis. The distribution of heat generation at the initial state is different from that at the quasi-stationary state. Therefore, material properties depending on temperature must be considered. The calculated results of finite element analysis agree well with the experimental temperature results. This approach is suitable to solve magneto-thermal coupled problems.

  • This paper presents on the evaluation of numerical analysis model of a ball valve used for a gas pipeline. The ball valve has important role to control the gas flow of the pipeline as well as safety operation to prevent gas explosion at the emergency. For the validation of numerical simulation, the computational domains are introduced three different types: a hexahedron chamber connected to a pipeline outlet without considering the geometry of pressure tubes, a pipeline only considered the geometry of pressure tubes, and a pipeline connected both of the a hexahedron chamber and pressure tubes. The commercial code, SC/Tetra, is introduced to solve the three-dimensional steady-state Reynolds-averaged Navier-Stokes analysis in the present study. The valve flow coefficient and valve loss coefficient with respect to the valve opening rate of 30%, 50%, and 70% are compared with experimental results. Throughout the numerical analysis for the three analysis domains, pressure computed along the pipeline is affected by computational domains. It is noted pressure obtained by the computational model considering both of the a hexahedron chamber and pressure tubes has a relatively good agreement to the experimental data.
