A Study on the Torsional Vibration Characteristics of Super Large Two Stroke Low Speed Engines with Tuning Damper

  • Ship builder's requirement for a higher power output rating has lead to the development of super large two stroke low speed diesel engines. Usually a large-sized bore ranging from 8-14 cylinders, this engine group is capable of delivering power output of more than 100,000 bhp at maximum continuous rating. Other positive aspects of this engine type include higher thermal efficiency, reliability, durability and mobility. This all playa vital role in meeting the propulsion requirement of vessels, specifically for large container ships, of which speed is a primary concern to become more competitive. Consequently, this also resulted in the modification of engine parameters and new component designs to meet the consequential higher mean effective pressure and higher maximum combustion pressure. Even though the fundamental excitation mechanism unchanged, torsional vibration stresses in the propulsion shafting are subsequently perceived to be higher. As such, one important viewpoint in the initial engine design is the resulting vibration characteristic expected to prevail on the propulsion shafting system(PSS). This paper investigated the torsional vibration characteristics of these super large engines. For the two node torsional vibration with a nodal point on the crankshaft, a tuning damper is necessary to reduce the torsional stresses on the crankshaft. Hence, the tuning torsional vibration damper design and compatibility to the shafting system was similarly reviewed and analyzed.

나노 다공질 FTO 제작 및 광전변환특성 고찰 (Synthesis of Nanoporous F:SnO2 Materials and its Photovoltaic Characteristic)

  • 본 연구에서는 염료 태양전지(Dye-sensitized solar cells; DSCs)에 적용하기 위한 나노-다공질의 FTO(F:$SnO_2$) 재료를 Sol-gel 연소법을 이용하여 다양한 열처리 온도를 변수로 제작하였으며, 각각의 결과물들에 대한 물성적 특성을 고찰하였다. FTO nano-powder는 SnCl4-98.0[%]와 HF-$48{\sim}51$[%]가 교반된 것에 NH4OH를 Sol-gel법의 촉매로 사용하였고, 첨가재로써 Ketjen Black을 사용하였다. 얻어진 결과물에 대한 XRD 측정 결과, 열처리 온도가 상승함에 따라 $SnO_2$의 회절각인 25.6[$^{\circ}$]($2{\Theta}$) 부근에서 강한 peak값이 나타났다. XPS 측정 결과에 의하면, 각각의 F1s, Sn 3d, O 1s의 binding energy는 682, 484, 528[eV]에서 광전자 피크가 확인되었다. 열처리 온도가 증가함에 따라 표면적이 감소하며, pore size는 증가함을 BET측정 결과로 알 수 있었다. 본 실험을 통해 열처리 온도조절에 따른 나노-다공성 FTO powder의 특성제어가 용이함이 확인되었고, Sol-gel 연소법에 의한 간단하고 효과적인 방법으로 나노-다공성 소재의 제작이 가능하여, DSCs의 응용에도 유용할 것으로 기대된다.

Internal Mixing of Pollutants for Submicron Particles Observed during Springtime in Japan

  • Internally mixed states of submicron particles during transport from the Asian continent to the Pacific Ocean were analyzed using a single-particle time-offlight mass spectrometer. The observation was conducted at Tsukuba in Japan in the spring of 2005 in order to investigate springtime transport of particles from the continent. The sum of ion intensities of sulfate (${HSO_4}^-$) detected in particles originating from the continental air masses counted for 75% of that in all particles during the observation. By analyzing correlations among compounds, origins and internally mixed states of compounds were estimated. It was found that nitrate was mixed with sulfate-rich particles as the air mass approached Japan. It was confirmed that Asian mineral dust particles played significant roles for transport of continental sulfate to Japan. As a result of analysis on internal mixing of chlorine and nitrate, it was implied that the chlorine loss in fine sea salt particles had already proceeded at Tsukuba. It was characteristic that fluoride ions were significantly detected, coal combustion in the Asian Continent can be an important source of fluorides detected in Japan through the westward transportation of fine particles including fluorides.

Interpretation of the Chemical Transformation of Individual Asian Dust Particles Collected on the Western Coast of Korean Peninsula

  • This paper is focused on the comprehensive and detailed interpretation for the chemical transformation of individual Asian dust (hereafter called "AD") particles during long-range transport from source regions to receptor area. A multi-stage particle sampler was operated at a ground-based site in Taean, Korea directly exposed to the outflow of air masses from China during AD period in April 2003. Both quantitative and qualitative analyses for size-classified individual particles were carried out by a microbeam X-ray fluorescence (XRF) method and a microbeam Particle Induced X-ray Emission (micro-PIXE), respectively. Among major characteristic elements, the elemental masses of soil derived components, sulfur, and chloride varied as a function of particle size showing the monomodal maximum with a steeply increasing at 3.3-4.7 ${\mu}m$ particle size. Although the details on chemical composition of AD particle collected on a straight line from source area to our ground-based site are needed, a large amount of Cl coexisted in and/or on AD particles suggests that AD particles collected in the present study might be actively engaged in chemical transformation by sea-salt and other Cl containing pollutants emitted from the China's domestic sources. Through the statistical analyses it was possible to classify individual AD particles into six distinct groups. The internally mixed AD particles with Cl, which has various sources (e.g., sea-salt, coal combustion origin HCl, gaseous HCl derived from the adsorption of acids to sea-salt, and Cl containing man-made particles) were thoroughly fractionated by the elemental spectra drivened by the double detector system of micro-PIXE.

태안과 강릉지역 여름철 PM10의 수용성 성분 특성 (Characteristic of Water-soluble Components of PM10 at Taean and Gangneung Sites in Summer Season)

  • [ $PM_{10}$ ]measurements were made at two coastal sites, i.e., Taean and Gangneung, for summer to examine the characterization of water-soluble organic carbon (WSOC) and inorganic ionic species, and to investigate their difference between the sites. The fractions of three major inorganic water-soluble components ($NO_3^-$, $SO_4^{2-}$, and $NH_4^+$) at Taean and Gangneung sites were 30.6% (16.2~62.0%) and 25.6% (13.0~52.5%) of the $PM_{10}$, respectively. $SO_4^{2-}$ is the most dominant species of water-soluble ions at both sites, accounting for up to 20.5% (9.1~44.9%) and 16.3% (5.5~34.2%) of their respective PM10 mass concentrations. Using the paired T-test, $PM_{10}$ (p<0.01), $NO_3^-$ (p<0.05), $SO_4^{2-}$ (p<0.01), $NH_4^+$ (p<0.001), and WSOC (p<0.05) concentrations exhibited strong fluctuations on a daily basis between Taean and Gangneung sites. Relationship between the concentrations of $SO_x$ ($SO_4^{2-}+SO_2$) and CO indicates that the slopes of $SO_x$ /CO were 0.007 and 0.019 in the Taean and Gangneung sites, respectively. The smaller $SO_x$/CO slope in the Taean site could be related to the aged air with wet scavenging of $SO_x$ during transport. The correlation between the concentrations of CO and WSOC suggests that WSOC observed in the Gangneung ($R^2$=0.82) be transported from combustion-related sources, while the WSOC at the Taean site could be formed through atmospheric processing of primary volatile organic species during transport.

  • 알루미늄 입자들이 함유된 고폭약의 비정상 데토네이션 전파속도에 대하여 수치 해석을 수행하였다. 알루미늄 입자의 점화와 연소는 고폭약에 비해 상대적으로 긴 시간이 요구되기 때문에, 알루미늄 입자연소에 의한 에너지 발산은 고폭약의 데토네이션 후방에서 이루어진다. 이러한 비정상 데토네이션에 대한 수치해석은 기체상과 균일하게 분포된 고체 입자와의 질량, 운동량, 에너지 교환을 다루는 이종매질 이론을 이용한다. 알루미늄 입자가 함유된 고폭약의 데토네이션 전파에 대한 수치 해석은 폭약 HMX에 대하여 수행되었으며, 5~25%의 알루미늄 함량과 0.5, 7, $15{\mu}m$의 알루미늄 입자크기에 대한 수치 해석 결과와 실험 결과를 비교하여 검증하였다.

콘형 가스버너의 난류유동장에 대한 슬릿과 스월베인의 역할 (The Role of Slits and Swirl Vanes on the Turbulent Flow Fields in Cone Type Gas Burner)

  • The gun-type gas burner adopted in this study is generally composed of some slits and swirl vanes. Therefore, this paper is studied to investigate the effect of slits and swirl vanes on the turbulent flow fields in the horizontal plane of gas swirl burner with a cone type baffle plate measured by using X-probe from hot-wire anemometer system. This experiment is carried out at flow rate $450\;{\ell}/min$, which is equivalent to the combustion air flow rate necessary for heat release 15,000 kcal/hr in gas furnace, in the test section of subsonic wind tunnel. When the burner has only swirl vanes, the axial mean velocity component shows the characteristic that spreads more remarkably toward radial direction than axial one, but when it has only slits, that is developed spreading more toward axial direction than radial one. Therefore, because the biggest speed is spurted in slits and it derive main flow toward axial direction encircling rotational flow that comes out from swirl vane that is situated on the inside of slits, both slits and swirl vanes composing of cone type gas burner act role that decreases the speed near slits and increases the flow speed in the central part of a burner. Moreover, because rotational flow by swirl vanes and fast jet flow by slits increase turbulent intensities effectively coexisting, the turbulent kinetic energy is distributed with a bigger size fairly near slits than burner models which have only slit or swirl vanes within X/R<0.6410.

  • 하이브리드 추진에서 연소특성을 나타내는 후퇴율 식을 초기 포트면적으로 나눈 산화제 유속이 고려된 고체연료 유속의 관계식으로 표현하였다. 초기 포트면적을 고려한 산화제 유속을 이용하여 반복 수행 없이 연소율을 쉽게 구할 수 있었고, 고체연료 유속 관계식으로 연료 형상을 간단히 설계할 수 있는 기법에 대한 연구를 수행하였다. 본 연구의 실험에서는 연료로 PE, 산화제로 GOX를 사용하였으며, 연소시간을 다양하게 하여 포트면적 변화에 따른 유속의 변화를 고려하였다. 하이브리드 추진에서, 산화제 유속의 지수가 0.5에 근접할 경우 후퇴율 관계식 보다는 고체연료 유속 관계식을 사용하는 것이 더 적합함을 확인하였다.

인산형 연료전지용 메탄올 연료개질기의 운전 특성 (Operational Characteristics of Methanol Reformer for the Phosphoric Acid Fuel Cell System)

  • 본 논문은 5.9kW급 인산형 연료전지 발전시스템의 운전에 필요한 메탄올 연료개질기의 설계와 이의 운전 특성에 관한 것이다. 연료개질장치는 메탄올을 연소용 및 개질용연료로 사용하며, 개 질 반응 촉매는 CuO-ZnO계를 사용하고, 개질 반응기는 단일 환형 반응기 형태로 설계하였다. 개질 장치의 일산화탄소 생성 특성은 전체적으로 이론적인 평형값에는 도달하지 못하였으나, 반응온도가 증가할수록 농도가 증가하였으며, 개질 연료의 물/메탄올 몰비가 증가하면 감소하였다. 정격운전에서 촉매반응기의 축방향 온도분포는 이론적인 값과 잘 일치하였으며, 운전 개시후 50분 훈에 정상 운전이 가능하였다. 개질 시스템의 효율은 정격운전에서는 72.3%, 1/4 부하에서는 77%로 부하가 증가할수록 효율은 감소하였다. 개질기를 연료전지 본체와 연계운전시 개질기에 개질용 메탄올 및 연소용 메탄올의 공급유량이 각각 88.1 mol/h, 50.0mol/h 인 경우 정격전압인 37.6V의 전안에서 안정적인 5.5 kWh의 전력을 생산 할 수 있었다.

큐멘(Cumene)의 연소특성치의 측정 및 예측 (Measurement and Prediction of the Combustible Properties of Cumene)

  • 공정의 안전을 위해서 취급물질의 정확한 연소특성치의 사용은 매우 중요하다. 화학산업에서 다양하게 사용되고 있는 큐멘의 안전한 취급을 위해서 인화점과 최소자연발화온도를 측정하였다. 폭발하한계는 실험에서 얻어진 하부인화점을 이용하여 계산하였다. 큐멘의 Setaflash 밀폐식은 $31^{\circ}C$, Pensky-Martens 밀폐식에서는 $33^{\circ}C$ 그리고 Tag 개방식에서는 $43^{\circ}C$, Cleveland 개방식에서는 $45^{\circ}C$로 측정되었다. ASTM E659 장치에 의한 큐멘의 최소자연발화온도는 $419^{\circ}C$로 측정되었다. 측정된 하부인화점 $31^{\circ}C$에 의한 폭발하한계는 0.87 vol%로 계산되었다. 폭발한계는 측정된 인화점이나 문헌에 제시된 인화점을 이용하여 예측가능함을 알 수 있었다.
