The performance of a three dimensional non-linear finite element model for hyperelastic material considering the effect of compressibility is studied by analyzing rubber blocks under different modes of deformation. It includes simple tension, pure shear, simple shear, pure bending and a mixed mode combining compression, shear and bending. The compressibility of the hyperelastic material is represented in the strain energy function. The nonlinear formulation is based on updated Lagrangian (UL) technique. The displacement model is implemented with a twenty node brick element having u, ${\nu}$ and w as the degrees of freedom at each node. The results obtained by the present numerical model are compared with the analytical solutions available for the basic modes of deformation where the agreement between the results is found to be satisfactory. In this context some new results are generated for future references since the number of available results on the present problem is not sufficient enough.
This study investigates the air leakage and heat transfer characteristics of a rotary-type air-to-air heat exchanger with a fiber polyester matrix. The leakage airflow rate is measured using a tracer gas method for various ventilation rates and rotational speeds of the matrix wheel. A correlation equation for air leakage is obtained by combining the pressure leakage and the carryover leakage. The pressure leakage is observed to be a function of ventilation airflow rate only, and the carryover leakage is found to be a linear function of rotational speed. The real efficiency of the heat exchanger can be obtained from its apparent efficiencies by taking into account the air leakage ratio. As the ventilation rate increases, the heat recovery efficiency decreases. As the rotational speed of the matrix increases, the efficiency increases initially but reaches a constant value for the rotational speeds over 10 rpm.
In this study, compared and analyzed various loss function minimization techniques to present a methodology for developing a natural intelligence-based prediction system. As a result of the analysis, He Initialization was the best with RMSE: 3.78, R2: 0.94, and the error rate was 6%. However, it is considered desirable to construct a prediction system by combining each technique for optimization.
Flash flood is a dangerous weather phenomenon, affecting humans and the economy. The identification, forecast of the changing trend and its characteristics are increasingly concerned. In the world, there have many methods for determining the characteristics of flash floods, in which flash flood guidance (FFG) is a fast, effective and widely used method. The main source of flash floods is short-term rainfall. In this study, we used the data of cross-sectional measurement at the tributaries and the hourly rain data from the automatic rainfall measurement stations in the Geum river basin. Besides, we use a combination of the flash flood guidance and the best fit distribution function to estimate the repeatability of flash floods for head-water catchments in Geum river basin. In which, FFG determines the threshold of rainfall for flash floods. The study has determined the best hourly rainfall distribution function for the Geum river basin and estimated the maximum rainfall of 1hr according to the return periods.
In this paper, we study how the Hilbert polynomial, associated with a reduced closed subscheme X of codimension 2 in ℙN, reveals geometric information about X. Although it is known that the Hilbert polynomial can tell us about the scheme's degree and arithmetic genus, we find additional geometric information it can provide for smooth varieties of codimension 2. To do this, we introduce the concept of Gotzmann coefficients, which helps to extract more information from the Hilbert polynomial. These coefficients are based on the binomial expansion of values of the Hilbert function. Our method involves combining techniques from initial ideals and partial elimination ideals in a novel way. We show how these coefficients can determine the degree of certain geometric features, such as the singular locus appearing in a generic projection, for smooth varieties of codimension 2.

The purpose of this study was to assess the effects and find the correlation of LOTCA-G and SS-QOL on the cognitive function and quality of life of elderly stroke patients. The time period of the experiment was from March 1, 2018 to March 30, 2018, and the study sample was composed of 102 stroke out-patients who participated in the rehabilitation center in G-city and received treatment of LOTCA-G and SS-QOL. The raw scores of the cognitive function of the elderly stroke patients varied depending on their gender, age, education, and marital status, but the differences were not statistically significant. Second, the raw scores of the quality of life of the elderly stroke patients varied depending on their gender, age, education, and marital status, but only marital status showed significance (p <0.01). The elderly stroke patients' cognitive function and the quality of life showed a statistically significant correlation (p <0.01). LOTCA-G and SS-QOL generally showed significant correlation even among sub-categories, but energy, one of the sub-categories of quality of life, did not show significant correlation with any of the other sub-categories of cognitive function. By combining the study results, it was possible to see that there were high levels of correlation between cognitive function and quality of life in elderly stroke patients shown through LOTCA-G and SS-QOL. Based on this study, if the raw scores of cognitive function and quality of life could be validated and various basic data could be provided for increasing quality of life, it can be considered that the stroke patients' quality of life will be improved.
Purpose : This study evaluated the effects of transcranial direct current stimulation and a virtual reality program on the depression, hand functions, cognitive function, and activities of daily living of patients with mild cognitive impairment by dividing 20 patients with mild cognitive impairment and depression. The 20 patients were divided into a treatment group (transcranial direct current stimulation + a virtual reality program) and a control group (placebo transcranial direct current stimulation + a placebo virtual reality program). Methods : This study allocated ten subjects to the treatment group and ten subjects to the control group. The treatment was given five times per week for six weeks (30 sessions), and each session was 30 minutes. This study screened depression by using SGDS-K, a short geriatric depression scale, to examine depression before and after treatment intervention. This study also used the box and block test, NCSE, and FIM to evaluate hand functions, cognitive function, and activities of daily living, respectively. Results : The results showed that depression significantly decreased, hand functions significantly increased, cognitive function significantly improved, and activities of daily living significantly increased after intervention in the treatment and control groups. The magnitude of changes in depression, hand functions, cognitive function, and activities of daily living was significantly different between the two groups after intervention (p>.05). Conclusion : The results showed that the application of transcranial direct current stimulation and a virtual reality program could improve cognitive function, hand functions, and activities of daily living by decreasing depression. Therefore, it can be concluded that the simultaneous application of transcranial direct current stimulation and a virtual reality program is an intervention method, which can be applied for decreasing depression, enhancing hand functions, improving cognitive function, and increasing activities of daily living in patients with mild cognitive impairment.
PURPOSE: This study examined the effects of combined conventional exercise therapy plus respiratory exercise program with combined conventional exercise therapy plus aqua exercise program in the pulmonary function of subacute stroke patients. METHODS: The respiratory exercise program group underwent inspiration and expiration training using the Threshold IMT and Threshold PEP three days per week for four weeks. The aquatic exercise program group had aquatic aerobics, halliwick, and bad ragaz ring training three days per week for four weeks. Before and after the experiment, Pony fx was used to examine the FVC, FEV1, FEV1/FVC, VC, and MVV. RESULTS: Significant improvement was found after the experiment in the FVC. FEV1, VC, MVV, excepting FEV1/FVC, of the pulmonary function in the aquatic exercise program group. After the experiment, significant improvement was found in FVC, FEV1, FEV1/FVC, VC, and MVV of pulmonary function in the respiratory rehabilitation therapy group. No significant difference in FVC, FEV1, FEV1/FVC, VC, and MVV of pulmonary function was observed in the inter-group comparison. CONCLUSION: Significant improvement was found after the experiment in both the aquatic exercise program group and the respiratory exercise program group. No difference in pulmonary function was noted in the inter-group comparison. Therefore, combining general exercise therapy and an aquatic or respiratory exercise program is expected to be effective for the pulmonary function of acute stroke patients. These results are expected to provide basic data to help research intervention of aquatic and respiratory exercise programs for subacute stroke patients.
The purpose of this preliminary study was to develop a measurement for assessing risk factors for falling in community-dwelling elderly persons. Rasch analysis and principal component analysis were performed to examine whether items on the Activities-Specific Balance Confidence (ABC), assessing self-efficacy, and items on the Berg Balance Scale (BBS), assessing balance function, contribute jointly to a unidimensional construct in the elderly. A total of 35 elderly persons (4 men, 31 women) participated. In this study, each item of ABC (16 items) and BBS (14 items) was scored on a 5-point ordinal rating scale from 0 to 4. The initial Rasch and principal component analysis indicated that 3 of the ABC items and 2 of the BBS items were misfit for this study. These 5 items were excluded from further study. After combining ABC and BBS, Rasch and principal component analyses were examined and finally 23 items selected; 12 items from ABC, 11 items from BBS. The 23 combined ABC-BBC items were arranged in order of difficulty. The hardest item was 'walk outside on icy sidewalks' and the easiest item was 'pivot transfer'. Although structural calibration of each 5 rating scale categories was not ordered, the other three essential criteria of Linacre's optimal rating scale were satisfied. Overall, the ABC-BBS showed sound item psychometric properties. Each of the 5 rating scale categories appeared to distinctly identify subjects at different ability levels. The findings of this study support that the new ABC-BBS scale measure balance function and self-efficacy. It will be a clinically useful assessment of risk factors for falling in the elderly. However, the number of subjects was too small to generalize our results. Further study is needed to develop a new assessment considering more risk factors of falling in elderly.
