  • The robust non-fragile guaranteed cost control problem is studied in this paper for class of uncertain linear large-scale systems with time-varying delays in subsystem interconnections and given quadratic cost functions. The uncertainty in the system is assumed to be norm-hounded arid time-varying. Also, the state-feedback gains for subsystems of the large-scale system are assumed to have norm-bounded controller gain variations. The problem is to design state feedback control laws such that the closed-loop system is asymptotically stable and the closed-loop cost function value is not more than a specified upper bound far all admissible uncertainties. Sufficient conditions for the existence of such controllers are derived based on the linear matrix inequality (LMI) approach combined with the Lyapunov method. A parameterized characterization of the robust non-fragile guaranteed cost contrellers is 7iven in terms of the feasible solution to a certain LMI. Finally, in order to show the application of the proposed method, a numerical example is included.

  • In recommender systems based on collaborative filtering, measuring similarity is very critical for determining the range of recommenders. Data sparsity problem is fundamental in collaborative filtering systems, which is partly solved by Jaccard coefficient combined with traditional similarity measures. This study proposes a new coefficient for improving performance of Jaccard coefficient by compensating for its drawbacks. We conducted experiments using datasets of various characteristics for performance analysis. As a result of comparison between the proposed and the similarity metric of Pearson correlation widely used up to date, it is found that the two metrics yielded competitive performance on a dense dataset while the proposed showed much better performance on a sparser dataset. Also, the result of comparing the proposed with Jaccard coefficient showed that the proposed yielded far better performance as the dataset is denser. Overall, the proposed coefficient demonstrated the best prediction and recommendation performance among the experimented metrics.

  • An intelligent control method is proposed for control of rigid robot manipulators which achieves exponential tracking of repetitive robot trajectory under uncertain operating conditions such as parameter uncertainty and unknown deterministic disturbance. In the learning controller, exponentially stable learning algorithms are combined with stabilizing computed error feedforward and feedback inputs. It is shown that all the error signals in the learning system are bounded and the repetitive robot motion converges to the desired one exponentially fast with guaranteed convergence rate. An engineering workstation based control system is built to verify the effectiveness of the proposed control scheme.

  • Configuration-dependent nonlinear coefficient matrices in the dynamic equation of robot manipulator impose computa- tional burden in real-time implementation of tracking control based on the inverse dynamics controller. However, parallel manipulators such as Stewart platform have relatively small workspace compared to serial manipulators. Based on the characteristics of small motion range. nonlinear coefficient matrices can be approxiamted to constant ones. The modeling errors caused by such approximation are compensated for by H-infinity controller that treats the modeling errors disturbance. The proposed inverse dynamics controller with approximate dynamics combined with H-infinity control shows good tracking performance even for fast tracking control in which computation of full inverse dynamics is not easy to implement.

  • In this paper, three adaptive sliding mode control algorithms, which self-tune both the sliding mode gain and the boundary layer thickness, are proposed. The first algorithm uses a gain adaptation rule is combined with the boundary layer thickness adaptatioin rule to satisfy the sliding condition. In the third algorithm, the computation burden of the second algorithm is reduced further, and therefore no extra cost is required for real-time implementation. Due to the mixed sliding mode gain and the boundary layer thickness adaptation scheme, the tracking error and the chattering of the control input can be reduced greatly.

  • In this paper we confirm the relation between the phases and phase errors of the beat signal at the lock-in region of the amplitude modulation type ring laser gyroscope by numerical calculation. Based on this facts, we, numerically, study the envelopes and magnitudes of the dither noise for statistically summing out the beat signal phase error, and we, experimently, confirm these numerical results. As a result, we find that the dither noise requires the increase gradient and the decrease gradient of the dither amplitudes, and those gradients should be combined with white noise. The magnitude of the dither noise which is satisfied with these requirements should be more than 5 percents of the average dither amplitude.

  • The OBC(on-board computer) of a satellite which plays a role of the controller for the satellite should be equipped with preventive measures against transient errors caused by SEU(single event upset). Since memory devices are pretty much susceptible to these transient errors, it is essential to protect memory devices against SFU. A common method exploits an error detection and correction code and additional memory devices, combined with periodic memory scrubbing. This paper proposes an effective memory scrubbing scheme for the OBC of STSAT-2. The memory system of the OBC is briefly mentioned and the reliability of the information stored in the memory system is analyzed. The result of the reliability analysis shows that there exist optimal scrubbing periods achieving the maximum reliability for allowed overall scrubbing overhead and they are dependent on the significance of the information stored. These optimal scrubbing periods from a reliability point of view are derived analytically.

  • In this paper, we suggest a method for discretized frequency modulations of ultrasonic signals. A continuous sweep of frequency modulation signals can be modelled with fine levels of discretization. If the ultrasound signals are modulated with monotonically decreasing frequencies, then the cross-correlation between an emitted signal and received signal can be used to identify the distance of multiple target objects. For the discretized frequency synthesis, CF ultrasounds with different frequencies are serially ordered. The auto-correlation test with the signal shows effective results for distance estimation. The discretized frequency syntheses have better distance resolution than CF ultrasound signals and the resolution depends on the number of the combined ultrasound frequencies.

  • This study deals with stockout costs in the supply chain optimization model under the framework of batch-storage network. Stockout is very popular in chemical industries. Estimating stockout cost involves an understanding of customer reactions to a seller being out of stock at the time the customer wants to buy an item. This involves massively non-trivial work such as direct customer interviews and extensive mail survey. In this study, we will introduce a new interpretation of stockout costs combined with batchstorage network optimization model and thus suggest an easy way of estimating stockout costs. Optimization model suggest that optimal process and storage sizes considering stockout cost are smaller than those that do not consider stockout cost. An illustrative example support the analytical results.

  • In this paper, improved VCO(voltage controlled oscillator) with push-push structure and high impedance-inverter is designed and implemented. Two harmonic oscillators are combined into push-push structure. As a result, the fundamental suppression and the output power have been progressed. For the improved coupling characteristics between hair-pin resonator and two parallel microstrip line using high impedance inverter, the phase noise has been suppressed.
