  • This paper presented a method for random forest based the arrhythmia classification using both heart rate (HR) and heart rate variability (HRV) features. We analyzed the MIT-BIH arrhythmia database which contains half-hour ECG recorded from 48 subjects. This study included not only the linear features but also non-linear features for the improvement of classification performance. We classified abnormal ECG using mean_NN (mean of heart rate), SD1/SD2 (geometrical feature of poincare HRV plot), SE (spectral entropy), pNN100 (percentage of a heart rate longer than 100 ms) affecting accurate classification among combined of linear and nonlinear features. We compared our proposed method with Neural Networks to evaluate the accuracy of the algorithm. When we used the features extracted from the HRV as an input variable for classifier, random forest used only the most contributed variable for classification unlike the neural networks. The characteristics of random forest enable the dimensionality reduction of the input variables, increase a efficiency of classifier and can be obtained faster, 11.1% higher accuracy than the neural networks.

  • To improve the low treatment efficiency of sewage treatment plants, the separated sewer system must be maintained to provide an adequate flow rate and quality of the sewage under the effect of inflow. In this study, data from five locations of Namsuk, Dukgok1, Dukgok2, Kanggu, and Opo were used to conservatively calculate the inflow water volume. The sewer flow and rainfall data were collected in 2017. The factors in the standard method used to calculate the inflow of the combined sewer pipes including "rainy days", "rainfall impact period", and "period for basal sewer" were defined as 3 mm/day, continuous rain for two days, and two weeks prior to the inflow generation, respectively. "Rainy days", "rainfall impact period", and "period for basal sewer" were conservatively adjusted to 5 mm/day, continuous rain for five days, and three weeks prior to the inflow generation, respectively. As a results of the adjustment, the linearity (r2) was improved except for in Dukgok1. This implies that the conservative adjustment made in this study could improve the management quality of sewer pipes. Also, the linear correlation coefficient (ai) between inflow and rainfall showed a large difference between the target locations, which can be another monitoring factor affecting the quality of sewer pipes. To improve the correlation based on the individual characteristics of the locations in Korea, the automatic algorithm for the inflow calculation should be developed by innovative intellectual technologies for application to the entire national area.

  • High-definition, geo-referenced digital climate maps can be produced by applying watershed-specific modules to adjust synoptic observations for local effects including cold air drainage. Since there is no information available on North Korean watersheds, existing geospatial technology for digital climate mapping cannot be transferred to North Korea. We applied a watershed extraction algorithm based on ArcHydro to the North Korean portion of ASTER GDEM and utilized geographical information on major rivers and mountains to adjust the products. Proposed hydrologic zoning system for North Korean watersheds consists of 21 river basins, 93 stream basins and 885 catchments. Combined with the existing 840 South Korean hydrologic units, we now have a complete set of 1,725 catchments which may serve a framework for digital climate modeling across whole land area of the Korean Peninsula.

  • In practical design process, designer needs to find an optimal solution by using full factorial discrete combination, rather than by using optimization algorithm considering continuous design variables. So, ANOVA(Analysis of Variance) based on an orthogonal array, i.e. Taguchi method, has been widely used in most parts of industry area. However, the Taguchi method is limited for the shape optimization by using CAE, because the multi-level and multi-objective optimization can't be carried out simultaneously. In this study, a combined method was proposed taking into account of multi-level computational orthogonal array and TOPSIS(Technique for Order preference by Similarity to Ideal Solution), which is known as a classical method of multiple attribute decision making and enables to solve various decision making or selection problems in an aspect of multi-objective optimization. The proposed method was applied to a case study of the multi-level shape optimization of lower arm used to automobile parts, and the design space was explored via an efficient application of the related CAE tools. The multi-level shape optimization was performed sequentially by applying both of the neural network model generated from seven-level four-factor computational orthogonal array and the TOPSIS. The weight and maximum stress of the lower arm, as the objective functions for the multi-level shape optimization, showed an improvement of 0.07% and 17.89%, respectively. In addition, the number of CAE carried out for the shape optimization was only 55 times in comparison to full factorial method necessary to 2,401 times.

  • Dynamic origin-destination (OD) trip matrix has been widely used for transportation fields such as dynamic traffic assignment, traffic operation and travel demand management, which needs precise OD trip matrix to be collected. This paper presents a quasi-dynamic OD matrix estimation model and applies it to real road network for collecting the dynamic OD matrix. The estimation model combined with dynamic traffic assignment program, DYNASMART-P, is based on GPS embedded in PDA, which developed for collecting sample dynamic OD matrix. The sample OD matrix should be expanded by the value of optimal sampling ratio calculated from minimization program. From application to real network of Jeju, we confirm that the model and its algorithm produce a reasonable solution.

  • The purpose of this study is to test the applicability of neuro-fuzzy system for monthly dam inflow forecasts by using weather forecasting information. The neuro-fuzzy algorithm adopted in this study is the ANFIS(Adaptive neuro-fuzzy Inference System) in which neural network theory is combined with fuzzy theory. The ANFIS model can experience the difficulties in selection of a control rule by a space partition because the number of control value increases rapidly as the number of fuzzy variable increases. In an effort to overcome this drawback, this study used the subtractive clustering which is one of fuzzy clustering methods. Also, this study proposed a method for converting qualitative weather forecasting information to quantitative one. ANFIS for monthly dam inflow forecasts was tested in cases of with or without weather forecasting information. It can be seen that the model performances obtained from the use of past observed data and future weather forecasting information are much better than those from past observed data only.

  • Iterative curve evolution techniques are powerful methods for image segmentation. Classical methods proposed curve evolutions which guarantee close contours at convergence and, combined with the level set method, they easily handled curve topology changes. In this paper, we present a new geometric active contour model based on level set methods introduced by Osher & Sethian for detection of object boundaries or shape and we adopt anisotropic diffusion filtering method for removing noise from original image. Classical methods allow only one-way curve evolutions : shrinking or expanding of the curve. Thus, the initial curve must encircle all the objects to be segmented or several curves must be used, each one totally inside one object. But our method allows a two-way curve evolution : parts of the curve evolve in the outward direction while others evolve in the inward direction. It offers much more freedom in the initial curve position than with a classical geodesic search method. Our algorithm performs accurate and precise segmentations from noisy images with complex objects(jncluding sharp angles, deep concavities or holes), Besides it easily handled curve topology changes. In order to minimize the processing time, we use the narrow band method which allows us to perform calculations in the neighborhood of the contour and not in the whole image.

  • Recently, one of the most challenging Problems is to compose web services dynamically, that is, on demand. In particular, when a functionality that cannot be directly realized by existing services is required, existing services may be combined together to fulfill the request. This paper is to implement the dynamic composition of web services using existing workflow technologies. Workflow systems play a major role in E-businesses. However, due to the composition of web services using workflows differs from the design of traditional workflow systems, two problems need to be solved. (1) how to efficiently discover web services and (2) how to facilitate the interoperability of heterogeneous web services. In this paper, we present a matching algorithm for web service discovery and propose an approach based on the use of ontologies to facilitate the integration of web services. Finally, we have built a prototype system to illustrate how to the dynamic composition of web services are achieved.

  • Fuzzy c-means (FCM) is a simple but efficient clustering algorithm using the concept of a fuzzy set that has been proved to be useful in many areas. There are, however, several well known problems with FCM, such as sensitivity to initialization, sensitivity to outliers, and limitation to convex clusters. In this paper, global fuzzy c-means (G-FCM) and kernel fuzzy c-means (K-FCM) are combined to form a non-linear variant of G-FCM, called kernel global fuzzy c-means (KG-FCM). G-FCM is a variant of FCM that uses an incremental seed selection method and is effective in alleviating sensitivity to initialization. There are several approaches to reduce the influence of noise and accommodate non-convex clusters, and K-FCM is one of them. K-FCM is used in this paper because it can easily be extended with different kernels. By combining G-FCM and K-FCM, KG-FCM can resolve the shortcomings mentioned above. The usefulness of the proposed method is demonstrated by experiments using artificial and real world data sets.

  • This paper deploys optimization techniques to obtain the optimum hull form of KSUEZMAX at the conditions of full-load draft and design speed. The processes have been carried out using a RaPID-HOP program. The bow and the stern hull-forms are optimized separately without altering neither, and the resulting versions of the two are then combined. Objective functions are the minimum values of wave-making and viscous pressure resistance coefficients for the bow and stern. Parametric modification functions for the bow hull-form variation are SAC shape, section shape (U-V type, DLWL type), bulb shape (bulb height and size); and those for the stern are SAC and section shape (U-V type, DLWL type). WAVIS version 1.3 code is used for the potential and the viscous-flow solver. Prior to the optimization, a parametric study has been conducted to observe the effects of design parameters on the objective functions. SQP has been applied for the optimization algorithm. The model tests have been conducted at a towing tank to evaluate the resistance performance of the optimized hull-form. It has been noted that the optimized hull-form brings 2.4% and 6.8% reduction in total and residual resistance coefficients compared to those of the original hull-form. The propulsive efficiency increases by 2.0% and the delivered power is reduced 3.7%, whereas the propeller rotating speed increases slightly by 0.41 rpm.
