  • In order to restore the Hwangsanbeol Combat at present, it is necessary to make a close examination on the name of the military cops, the number of units, and the numerical strength, an unit organization, and a combat formation. Based on Samguksagi, Samgukyusa, other historical documents and military history information, I tried to restore the Hwansanbeol Combat as follow. The Shilla, at the 7 year of Mooyeol Dynasty, AD. 660, maintained 35 military units. The Shilla committed18 military units from among 35 units to battle against Baekje at the 7 Year of Mooyeol Danasty. The names ofmilitary units are as follow: 1) Daedang, 2) Sangjoojeong, 3) Hajoojeong, 4) Seodang, 5) Nangdang, 6) Eumlihwajeong, 7) Samryanghwajeong, 8) Sosarnjeong, 9) Namcheonjeong, 10) Leehwahaejeong, 11) Kaegeumdang, 12) Geupdang, 13) Nodang, 14) Woonjaednag, 15) Chungdang, 16) Suktoodang, 17) Gwidang, and 18) Soogun. The numerical strength, which the Shilla maintained at the year of A.D. 660, was total 106,353 persons from 35 military units. Shilla committed 57,433 military personnel to combats against the Great Baekche. Ground Forces from the 57,433 personnel were 58,343 persons, and the naval forces were 9,100 persons. Finally, 2,602 persons from among the 9,100 naval forces were only combating forces, and non-combat forces were 6498 persons.

  • Manned-unmanned teaming can be a very promising air-to-air combat tactic since it can maximize the advantage of combining human insight with the robustness of the machine. The rapid advances in artificial intelligence and autonomous control technology will speed up the development of manned-unmanned teaming air-to-air combat system. In this paper, we introduce a manned-unmanned teaming air-to-air combat tactic which is composed of a manned aircraft and an UAV. In this tactic, a manned aircraft equipped with radar is functioning both as a sensor to detect the hostile aircraft and as a controller to direct the UAV to engage the hostile aircraft. The UAV equipped with missiles is functioning as an actor to engage the hostile aircraft. We also developed a combat scenario of executing this tactic where the manned-unmanned teaming is engaging a hostile aircraft. The hostile aircraft is equipped with both missiles and radar. To demonstrate the efficiency of the tactic, we run the simulation of the scenario of the tactic. Using the simulation, we found the optimal formation and maneuver for the manned-unmanned teaming where the manned-unmanned teaming can survive while the hostile aircraft is shot-downed. The result of this study can provide an insight to how manned aircraft can collaborate with UAV to carry out air-to-air combat missions.

  • Organic brake materials are installed in the braking system of korean model combat vehicles. Since the binder resin is decomposed in high temperature region, it may possible to drop the friction force which makes the vehicle stop within the desired distance. This study analyses the braking performance of the brake materials in high temperature region by using the pin-on-disk type friction tester. It is observed radical drop of friction coefficients and rapid increase of wear amounts from the transition temperature. It is due to the formation of oxide layer on the friction surface.

  • Purpose: This study examined the problem of crack formation in the fire control system(FCS) of the K11 objective individual combat weapon(OCIW), using design of experiment analysis. Three hypothesis were considered. The first hypothesis is that bolted joint has an effect on impulse caused by firing the weapon and the second hypothesis is that a short time interval of shooting has an effect on impulse and lastly, the third hypothesis is that a positive correlation has between the bolted joint of the FCS and the impulse. Methods: The relationship between the bolted joint and the impulse cause by firing the weapon were examined experimentally. The first and second hypothesis was tested using correlation analysis and the t-test. Results: Using ANOVA, the first null hypothesis was rejected and the alternative hypothesis was accepted. ANONA confirmed the second null hypothesis. Correlation analysis dismissed the last null hypothesis. A positive correlation between the bolted joint and the impulse caused by shooting the weapon was verified. Conclusion: The bolted joint of the K11 FCS and the barrel of the K11 affect the impulse caused by firing the weapon. A positive correlation was established between the bolted joint of the FCS and the impulse on firing the K11 OICW.

  • In this paper, the result of study on the effectiveness of anti-submarine defense plan according to the disposition of surface ships has been proposed. The surface ship carries a hull mounted sonar(HMS) as a underwater sensor and a torpedo acoustic counter measure(TACM) as a soft-kill weapon against torpedo attacks from the enemy. Nowadays these underwater systems have been combined into a integrated anti-submarine warfare combat system. And in the real anti-submarine operation environment, several surface ships cooperate for executing ASW plans. Considering these ASW systems and the ASW environment, the models of underwater systems mounted on an surface ship and the a general model of anti-submarine defense plan are proposed. And we designed a scenario for conducting simulations to evaluate the ASW plan according to the variation of the range and the relative angle between surface ships and a capital ship. The simulation results show the effectiveness of ASW plan depends on the formation of surface ships and a capital ship.

  • The military uniform is worn to defend against enemy. Its function has an important effect on its changing. As once the means of combat was the collective formation, soldiers fought with swords and bows, or on horses. After the invention of gun powder, however, it became changed to the scattering formation. Therefore, it became impossible to fight on great armors any more. the armors and helmets made of iron, used light, materials, became those of Doosuingab (豆錫鱗甲), Soejagab(鎖子甲), Pigab(皮甲), Jigab(紙甲). The Doojunggab(頭釘甲) which presented a grand appearance came into existence. At last the Chullic and GooGoonbok made of clothing were worn. Korean military uniform were influenced by Chines military uniform. Korean armors had an influence on Japanese. As follows, I will study on Chinese and Korean armors with the changes of the times.

  • Antimicrobial peptides (AMPs) have been isolated and characterized from tissues and organisms representing virtually every kingdom and phylum. Their amino acid composition, amphipathicity, cationic charge, and size allow them to attach to and insert into membrane bilayers to form pores by 'barrel-stave', 'carpet' or 'toroidal-pore' mechanisms. Although these models are helpful for defining mechanisms of AMP activity, their relevance to resolving how peptides damage and kill microorganisms still needs to be clarified. Moreover, many AMPs employ sophisticated and dynamic mechanisms of action to carry out their likely roles in antimicrobial host defense. Recently, it has been speculated that transmembrane pore formation is not the only mechanism of microbial killing by AMPs. In fact, several observations suggest that translocated AMPs can alter cytoplasmic membrane septum formation, reduce cell-wall, nucleic acid, and protein synthesis, and inhibit enzymatic activity. In this review, we present the structures of several AMPs as well as models of how AMPs induce pore formation. AMPs have received special attention as a possible alternative way to combat antibiotic-resistant bacterial strains. It may be possible to design synthetic AMPs with enhanced activity for microbial cells, especially those with antibiotic resistance, as well as synergistic effects with conventional antibiotic agents that lack cytotoxic or hemolytic activity.

  • This study provides the basic data for using the connections of Interpol to combat supranational crimes, reflecting domestic and foreign situations, and I'll summarize the countermeasures as follows through the results of this study. First of all, it is necessary to build up the international cooperative system which shares information and technology between nations, through the network formation of Asianpol. Second, a policy of Interpol which maximizes the foreign agents and resident officers in Korea needs to be established. Third, governmental policies and legal measures such as criminal extradition must be available to help the criminal investigations of Interpol quickly and positively. Fourth, there has to be the expansion of budget for securing professional investigators and supporting Interpol to fight supranational crimes by the authority of the government.

  • With the recent increase in the development of military drones, they are adopted and used as the combat system of battalion level or higher. However, it is difficult to use drones that can be used in battles below the platoon level due to the current conditions for the formation of units in the Korean military. In this paper, therefore, we developed a program drones equipped with a thermal imaging camera and LiDAR sensor for reconnaissance and exploration that can be applied in battles below the platoon level. Using these drones, we studied the possibility and feasibility of drones for small-scale combats that can find hidden enemies, search for an appropriate detour through image processing and conduct reconnaissance and search for battlefields, hiding and cover-up through image processing. In addition to the purpose of using the proposed drone to search for an enemies lying in ambush in the battlefield, it can be used as a function to check the optimal movement path when a combat unit is moving, or as a function to check the optimal place for cover-up or hiding. In particular, it is possible to check another route other than the route recommended by the program because the features of the terrain can be checked from various viewpoints through 3D modeling. We verified the possiblity of flying by designing and assembling in a form of adding LiDAR and thermal imaging camera module to a drone assembled based on racing drone parts, which are open source hardware, and developed autonomous flight and search functions which can be used even by non-professional drone operators based on open source software, and then installed them to verify their feasibility.

  • Wireless sensor networks (WSN) have attracted much attention in recent years due to their potential use in many applications such as border protection and combat field surveillance. Given the criticality of such applications, maintaining a dependable operation of the network is a fundamental objective. However, the resource constrained nature of sensor nodes and the ad-hoc formation of the network, often coupled with an unattended deployment, pose non-conventional challenges and motivate the need for special techniques for dependable design and management of WSN. In this article, we highlight the potential of careful positioning of the base station (BS), which acts as a sink resources.
