Population Dynamics of Mustard Aphid, Lipaphis erysimi (Kaltenbach) as Influenced by Abiotic Factors and Different Rapeseed Mustard Genotypes

  • Mustard aphid, Lipaphis erysimi(Kalt.) plays a key role in determining the productivity of rapeseed-mustard. This pest alone attributes 30-70% losses in yield potential in different agro climatic zones with a mean loss of 54.2% in India. Considering the extent of damage caused by the pest, the present experiment was conducted at Pulses and Oilseeds Research Station during 1992-93 to 1994-95 to study the migratory nature of mustard aphid by trapping them in yellow colour pan tray and their simultaneous growth and development on three different genotypes. The temperature during noon hours is the predominant factor to govern the appearance of alate mustard aphid in rapeseed-mustard field. Stepwise regression analysis revealed that temperature and relative humidity played an important role for its development. The variety RW white flower glossy stem harboured minimum number of aphid in comparison to other two varieties B 9 and T6342. The population reached a peak of 61.28 aphids/10 cm central twig during $6^{th}$ standard week irrespective of varieties.

  • Polymer cationic agent was prepared by the initial polymerization of epichlorohydrin followed by amination with diethyl-amine. Cotton fibre treated with the polymer (6∼8% o.w.f.) is highly cationic and exhibit increased substantivity for anionic dyes. The modified substrate could be dyed with direct dyes without salt or a little salt from dye bath. The increased concentration of cationic agents resulted in an increase the colour yield. Futhermore, treated cotton has an electropositive surface charge. Adsorption of direct dye can be attributed to both van der waals force and electrostatic attraction.

쪽풀로부터 제조한 고형쪽과 합성인디고의 염색성에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Dyeing Properties of Natural Indigo Complex Powder and Synthetic Indigo with Natural Fiber)

  • We prepared natural indigo/calcium hydroxide complex powder from tinctoria's leaf, according to the demand of developing new dyeing technique of natural fibre with natural indigo. FT- IR and UV/Visible spectra were operated to find the dyeing properties of synthetic indigo and natural indigo powder. Cotton, flax and silk fabrics were dyed with different pH, dye concentration and dyeing time. The colour yield of indigo dye was quite sensitive to dye bath pH and fabric. In synthetic indigo, the highest K/S value of dyed silk fabric was shown at near pH 9.0, and which of flax and cotton fabric were shown at pH 11.0. In other hand, in the case of natural indigo complex powder, the highest K/S value of dyed silk fabric was shown at near pH 8.0, and which of flax and cotton fabric were shown at pH 9.5∼pH 10. Mercerized cotton fabric dyed with natural indigo powder has a little antimicrobial activity.

Coloration of Poly(lactic acid) with Disperse Dyes. 1. Comparison to Poly(ethylene terephthalate) of Dyeability, Shade and Fastness

  • The dyeability of poly(lactic acid) [PLA] with a range of commercial disperse dye was examined and compared to that of poly(ethylene terephthalate) [PET] in addition to the colour and fastness of the resultant dyeings. A screening exercise in which twenty dyes of differing energy types and chemical classes were applied to PLA revealed a substantial variation between the dyes in terms of dye uptake (12-88 % at 4 % o.w.f.). Nine dyes exhausted above 70 % and were selected for further study, which involved comparison of shade and fastness of PLA dyeings with those of the corresponding PET dyeings. Differences in shade depended on hue while wet fastness of each of the PLA dyeings was either the same or 0.5-1.0 point lower than its PET counterpart. In all but one case, dye photostability in PLA was found to be very similar to that in PET. Dye build-up profiles on PLA were also investigated and from these results mixtures of compatible dyes identified.

  • 폐맥주효모로부터 Hop의 고미성분을 추출하는 최적조건은 이산화탄소 유량 50 mL/min, 입자크기 0.35 mm, 시료 20 g, 보조용매(95% 에탄올) 4 mL/min, 총 추출시간 30분, 추출온도 $45^{\circ}C$, 추출 압력 1800 psia로 원 시료와 비교한 결과 Hop의 향기 성분과 고미성분이 거의 제거됨을 알 수 있었다. 또한 보조용매의 효과는 추출물질의 표면적을 크게 하여 침투력을 높여주고 추출물 중의 휘발성이 강한 성분이나 색의 제거에 상당한 효과가 있음을 알 수 있었다(13,14).

  • As a series of studies to clarify clonorchicidal substances in body surface mucus of some freshwater fishes, the substance in the epidermal mucus of Cyprinus carpio was isolated by silica gel column and thin layer chromatography and analysed for its chemical nature. Wormicidal trial was done in vitro, and the results obtained are summarized as follows: The mucus was extracted by ethyl ether and separated into 4 fractions by column chromatography using benzene as solvent. The second fraction with yellowish red colour among them showed the strongest clonorchicidal effect. The yellowish red fraction obtained by column chromatography was then fractionated into 6 spots by thin layer chromatography with petrol/ etherjchloroform (30/70, v/v), and the Rf. 0.714 spot among the 6 spots showed the strongest effect. The Rf. 0.714 spot was further fractionated into 6 spots by thin layer chromatography with benzene/acetone (90/10, vlv), and the Rf. 0.800 spot among the later 6 spots revealed the strongest effect. The Rf. 0.800 spot was chromatographed on column with benzene and 2 fractions were obtained. The second fraction of light brown colour represented the final purified fraction. By these Purification Procedures, clonorchicidal substance was Purified 15-fold with 0.035 yield from the mucus of C. carpio, and 10mg of the final fraction killed the cercaria in 26 min, the metacercaria in 115 min, and the adult in 443 min. Infra red and nuclear magnetic resonance spectrometric analysis of the purified substance revealed that the substance belongs to an ethyl ester of unsaturated fatty acid with 2 double bonds, 15 methylene groups and 1 methyl group.

Optimization of Maillard Reaction in Model System of Glucosamine and Cysteine Using Response Surface Methodology

  • Sulfur-containing amino acids play important roles in good flavor generation in Maillard reaction of non-enzymatic browning, so aqueous model systems of glucosamine and cysteine were studied to investigate the effects of reaction temperature, initial pH, reaction time, and concentration ratio of glucosamine and cysteine. Response surface methodology was applied to optimize the independent reaction parameters of cysteine and glucosamine in Maillard reaction. Box-Behnken factorial design was used with 30 runs of 16 factorial levels, 8 axial levels and 6 central levels. The degree of Maillard reaction was determined by reading absorption at 425 nm in a spectrophotometer and Hunter's L, a, and b values. ${\Delta}E$ was consequently set as the fifth response factor. In the statistical analyses, determination coefficients ($R^2$) for their absorbance, Hunter's L, a, b values, and ${\Delta}E$ were 0.94, 0.79, 0.73, 0.96, and 0.79, respectively, showing that the absorbance and Hunter's b value were good dependent variables for this model system. The optimum processing parameters were determined to yield glucosamine-cysteine Maillard reaction product with higher absorbance and higher colour change. The optimum estimated absorbance was achieved at the condition of initial pH 8.0, $111^{\circ}C$ reaction temperature, 2.47 h reaction time, and 1.30 concentration ratio. The optimum condition for colour change measured by Hunter's b value was 2.41 h reaction time, $114^{\circ}C$ reaction temperature, initial pH 8.3, and 1.26 concentration ratio. These results can provide the basic information for Maillard reaction of aqueous model system between glucosamine and cysteine.

느타리버섯 생육온도와 자실체의 발생과 생장 (Initiation and growth of fruitbody of oyster mushroom as affected by cultivation temperature)

  • 느타리버섯 병재배에서 온도처리에 따른 품종간의 차이와 생리적 특성을 확인하기위하여 온도에 따른 시험을 수행한 결과 느타리버섯의 품종에 따라 온도처리별 발이 및 수량성에서 각기 다른 반응을 보였다. 특히 원형3호는 $16.5^{\circ}C$이상에서는 발이하지 않았으나 $13^{\circ}C$에서 발이 후 모든 온도처리에서 생장하였다. 고온성인 삼복느타리버섯은 $10^{\circ}C$에서는 발이 후 생장을 못하고 고사하였으며, $13^{\circ}C$에서 발이시킨 후 10, $25^{\circ}C$의 온도로 변온처리에서는 정상적으로 생장하지 못하였고, 수량도 얻지 못하였다. 자실체 색깔은 고온에서는 백색에 가깝게 변하며, 저온의 경우 회색계열의 품종은 흑색에 가까운 색으로 갈색계열의 버섯은 진한 갈색으로 변하였다. 발이 특성은 저온에서는 균일하고 양호하였으나 온도가 높아지면서 불균일하고 배지표면에서 부분적 발이현상으로 인하여 수량성과 품질이 낮았다. $13^{\circ}C$에서 생장한 흑색의 버섯을 $23^{\circ}C$로 이동하여 갓 색이 백색인 버섯을 다시 $10^{\circ}C$ 변온처리를 하면 흑회색으로 변화하였다. 이런 온도에 따른 자실체의 색의 변화에 의해 느타리버섯의 갓 색은 온도에 의해 결정되는 것으로 확인되었다.

Efficacy of Sweet Potato Powder and Added Water as Fat Replacer on the Quality Attributes of Low-fat Pork Patties

  • The present study was conducted to investigate the efficacy of sweet potato powder (SPP) and water as a fat replacer in low-fat pork patties. Low-fat pork patties were developed by replacing the added fat with combinations of SPP and chilled water. Three different levels of SPP/chilled water viz. 0.5/9.5% (T-1), 1.0/9.0% (T-2), and 1.5/8.5% (T-3) were compared with a control containing 10% animal fat. The quality of low-fat pork patties was evaluated for physico-chemical (pH, emulsion stability, cooking yield, $a_w$), proximate, instrumental colour and textural profile, and sensory attributes. The cooking yield and emulsion stability improved (p<0.05) in all treatments over the control and were highest in T-2. Instrumental texture profile attributes and hardness decreased, whereas cohesiveness increased compared with control, irrespective of SPP level. Dimensional parameters (% gain in height and % decrease in diameter) were better maintained during cooking in the low-fat product than control. The sensory quality attributes juiciness, texture and overall acceptability of T-2 and T-3 were (p<0.05) higher than control. Results concluded that low-fat pork patties with acceptable sensory attributes, improved cooking yield and textural attributes can be successfully developed with the incorporation of a combination of 1.0% SPP and 9.0% chilled water.

콩나물 재배방법에 따른 생장 특성 비교 (Comparison of Growth Characteristics of Soybean Sprouts Cultivated by Three Methods)

  • 1994년도산 백태 준자리콩을 이용하여 고온 다습한 조건에서 거꾸로 뒤집은 상태(방법 1)및 정상적인 방법 (방법 2)으로 5일간 재배한 콩나물과 일반적 인 방법(방법 3)으로 9일 재배한 콩나물과의 외형적인 특징, 수율, 부패율 등을 비교하였고, 관능경가를 통하여 품질을 비교 평가하였다. 고온($23{\sim}29^{\circ}C$) 다습(RH 85-96%)한 상태에서 주기적(8회/1일)으로 정온($17^{\circ}C$)의 지하수를 살수하민서 5일 등안 거꾸로 재배한 콩나물이 정상적 방법(방법 2)으로 재배한 콩나물에 비해 개체의 무게는 떨어지나 수율, 부패율 및 수분함량에서는 유의적인 차이를 보이지 않았다. 방법 1로 재배한 콩나물의 수율($699{\pm}8.14%$)이 방법 3($771{\pm}11.8$)에 비하여 떨어지고 있으나 부패율($0.83{\pm}0.070$)에서는 차이가 없었다. 고온 다습한 상태에서 거꾸로 속성 재배한 콩나물의 품질은 색택, 향 및 종합적인 맛에서 일반적인 방법으로 장기간 재배한 콩나물(방법 3)보다 유의적으로 우수하여 생장촉진제나 살균제를 처리하지 않고서도 우수한 청정 콩나물을 재배할 수 있었다.
