The Stability of TPN Admixture of Amino acids Solution and Dextrose Solution (고영양수액요법에 빈용되는 아미노산수액제와 포도당액의 혼합시 안정성에 관한 연구)

  • The purpose of this study was to test the stability of TPN basic solutions containing amino acids and dextrose. Test solutions containing $4.25\%$ amino acids in $25\%$ dextrose (central TPN basic solution) or $4.25\%$ amino acids in $10\%$ dextrose (peripheral TPN basic solution) were prepared. Two different amino acids solutions $(Fravasol^{(R)}\;vs\;Freamine^{(R)})$ were tested. The samples were taken from each admixture and stored in the evacuated, sterile containers at $2{\sim}8^{\circ}C$ and ambient room temperature. Each sample was analyzed at 0, 3, 7, 14 and 30 days of storage. Each amino acid was analyzed by amino acid analyzer. Dextrose content was measured by polarimeter. The pH and chromagen formation were also monitored. The decomposition was measured by the changes in concentration of amino acids and dextroser TPN basic $solution-Freamine^{(R)}$ admixture stored at $2\sim8^{\circ}C$ were stable for 30 days. Central and peripheral TPN basic solutions stored at room temperature were stable for 7 days and 14 days, respectively. There were no changes in color for 30 days by naked eye. Amino acid concentrations in TPN basic $solution-Fravasol^{(R)}$ admixture stored at $2\sim8^{\circ}C$ or room temperature were stable for 30 days. But, significant color change was detected according to passing time. In conclusion, Peripheral TPN basic $solution-Fravasol^{(R)}$ admixture stored at room temperature and in refrigerator were stable for 3 days and 7 days, respectively. However, central TPN basic solution-Fravasol admixtures were unstable. Therefore, it is recommended that it should be admixed right before use.

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze the change of visual stimulus of users to the space through the experiment of EEG and the satisfaction of users depends on the lighting. To do that, the results measured with EEG experiment focusing on Beta ${\beta}$ were compared to each other to figure out difference in the changes of the activation of human brain on lighting's situation as the lighting off and on in the same space. The difference in the results was verified according to the characteristic of users which classified with 4 types of the spatial sensitivities. The results of this study are as following. Firstly, the spacial sensitivity of user is to communicate well with the different senses with stimulus through interaction among the elements. At this time, the brain plays a major role in build the spacial sensitivity of users as the place to make form. Secondly, there are the differences in the activation of brain depends on lighting situation even in the same space. The stimulus into the brain became generally stronger in images with lighting on than off. Especially, the response in the occipital lobe which connected with the visual center turn out strongly in the image of 'modern natural'. Because the visual stimulus interact well with the bright color, the reflectional texture and the rough texture painted the dark color. Thirdly, the satisfaction of users changed with lighting in the space. But we could know that the satisfaction of users isn't be related to the visual stimulus through the results of this study. Finally, there isn't the difference in the activation degree of brain according to the characteristic which are preference of users into 4 types of the spatial sensitivity through the results came from ANCOVA(analysis of covariance) with SPSS Program 22.

A Study on Morphology and Behavior of the Sapsaree : A Korean native dog (Canis familiaris)

  • This study was conducted to characterize the morphological and behavior patterns of Sapsaree dogs. The population (n=8,256) has been constructed since 1990 over 12 generations and managed at the Sapsaree Breeding Research Institute, Gyeongsan, Gyeongbuk province. Eighteen morphological and seven behavioral traits were investigated for 882 individuals. Linear models were applied for each trait by fitting sex, season of birth, hair color or test age. The averages of body weight, body length, body height, and depth of chest were $20.5{\pm}2.4\;kg$, $57.3{\pm}4.2\;cm$, $52.1{\pm}3.6\;cm$, and $21.1{\pm}2.4\;cm$, respectively. Males had greater estimated values than females for these body conformation traits. The chocolate Sapsarees had greater averages for body weight, body height and chest depth. The older animals (>2 years) had heavier body weight than younger animals. About 54, 69, 97, 39 and 83.3% of the Sapsarees had hairs with yellow color, straight, medium to long, untangled, and longer around eyes, respectively. Also, about 40% brown eye, 43% curly tail, 78% normal jaw, 86% no missing teeth, 90% no dewclaw, and >90% with black nose, pendent ear, tongue without spots were observed. About 95% males were normal in testicles state. The males performed significantly better than the females for majority of the behavioral traits. For nerve stability, affability, wariness, adaptability, sharpness, activity, and reaction during blood drawn about 79%, 73%, 76%, 61%, 70%, 48% and 81% of the Sapsarees performed at desired level. In general, the Sapsarees showed good characteristics for both morphological and behavioral traits, which can be exploited to use the Sapsaree breed as a companion or guide dog.

  • To determine the depth of preservative penetration in ACQ treated wood, the degree of penetration of Cu was measured. In this study, we developed a DDAC coloring method to investigate the penetration depth of DDAC, which is one of the active ingredient of ACQ, into wood. The following conclusions were obtained. The DDAC component reacts with a 2', 7'-dichlorofluorescein indicator and results in a deep orange color. This orange coloring reaction appears not only in DDAC solutions but also in ACQ treated wood tissues in which DDAC is present. It is possible to visually verify that DDAC has better wood penetration than Cu in the spruce, which is an refractory wood species, by the DDAC coloring method developed this study. In addition to the results, it is necessary to investigate the difference in penetration of Cu and DDAC for other wood species with poor preservative penetration.

  • Organic-inorganic hybrid coating film using 1,2-bis(2,4-dimethyl-5-phenyl-3-thienyl)-3,3,4,4,5,5-hexafluoro-1-cyclopentene (BTHFC) as a photochromic material was prepared under various reaction conditions such as the amounts of tetramethoxysilane (TMOS), various silane coupling agents, and solvent. It was found that color-fading speed and absorbance of the coating film was strongly dependent upon the polarity of silane coupling agent and solvent. In addition, the mole ratio of TMOS and methacryloyloxypropyltrimethoxysilane (MPTMS) was an important factor to determine color-fading speed and absorbance of the coating film. With increasing TMOS contents in coating film, the pencil hardness was increased. On the other hands, the transmittance of coating film was relatively decreased with the increase of TMOS.

Browning and Pungent Taste Reduction Techniques in Onion Extract (양파추출물의 갈변 및 매운맛 억제기술)

  • The onion extractions of MIX treatment (5% $\beta$ cyclodextrin+1% calcium chloride+1% soluble starch mixture solution) using hot water (100${^{\circ}C}$ and 80${^{\circ}C}$) and ultrasonic treatment (25${^{\circ}C}$) incresed L values and decreased a and b values apart from the extraction methods. Extent of the browning reaction as caused by the MIX treatment (0.093) following 100${^{\circ}C}$ water extraction resulted in as low as 31% O.D. level, as compared to the control(0.296). Analysis of the pyruvic acid showed that the control had higher content of pyruric acid than MIX-treated samples. The MIX treatment had lower intensities and higher preferences of browning color and pungency taste compared to the control. The total and coliform microbial counts increased continuously during storage period, while the MIX treatment reduced the number of viable cells. Finally, it was concluded that the MIX treatment was highly effective in suppressing the undesirable browning color and pungent taste after processing, and the microbes increment during storage.

Optical Properties of Y3Al5O12;Ce3+,Pr3+ Transparent Ceramic Phosphor for High Power White Lighting (고출력 백색 광원용 Y3Al5O12;Ce3+,Pr3+ 투명 세라믹 형광체의 광학특성)

  • We prepared $Y_3Al_5O_{12};Ce^{3+},Pr3^{+}$ transparent ceramic phosphor using a solid state reaction method. By XRD pattern analysis and SEM measurement, our phosphors reveal an Ia-3d(230) space group of cubic structure, and the transparent ceramic phosphor has a polycrystal state with some internal cracks and pores. In the Raman scattering measurement with an increasing temperature, lattice vibrations of the transparent ceramic phosphor decrease due to its more perfect crystal structure and symmetry. Thus, low phonon generation is possible at high temperature. Optical properties of the transparent ceramic phosphor have broader excitation spectra due to a large internal reflection. There is a wide emission band from the green to yellow region, and the red color emission between 610 nm and 640 nm is also observed. The red-yellow phosphor optical characteristics enable a high Color Rendering Index (CRI) in combination with blue emitting LED or LD. Due to its good thermal properties of low phonon generation at high temperature and a wide emission range for high CRI characteristics, the transparent ceramic phosphor is shown to be a good candidate for high power solid state white lighting.

Investigation of Physicochemical and Sensory Quality Differences in Pork Belly and Shoulder Butt Cuts with Different Quality Grades

  • The objective of this study was to investigate the effects of quality grade (QG) on the physicochemical composition and eating quality attributes of pork belly and shoulder butt. Seventy-two growing-finishing crossbred pigs were slaughtered and their carcasses were graded according to the Korean pork carcass grading system. Based on the grading criteria, the carcasses were classified into: QG 1+ (n=23), QG 1 (n=23) and QG 2 (n=26) groups. At 24 h postmortem, belly and shoulder butt cuts were collected from the QG groups and used for analysis of meat quality, flavor compounds and eating quality attributes. Results showed that the variation in fat content among QG was approximately 2% in the both cut types. The QG showed no effects on all the quality traits: cooking loss, pH and color of the belly or shoulder butt (p>0.05). Thirty-five flavor compounds comprising mainly fatty acids oxidation/degradation-derived products (e.g., aldehydes) and only few Maillard reaction-derived products (e.g., sulfur-and nitrogen-containing compounds) were identified. However, the QG showed a minor effect on the flavor profiles in both the belly and shoulder butt. Regarding the sensory quality, no effects of the QG were found on all the eating quality attributes (color, flavor, juiciness, tenderness and acceptability) for both the belly and shoulder butt cuts (p>0.05). Thus, it may be concluded that the current pork carcass grading standards do not reflect the real quality and value of the belly and shoulder butt cuts.

Effects of Co/Fe Sulfate Pigments on the Colour and Phase of Porcelain (Co/Fe 황화물의 혼합안료에 의한 도자기 표면의 상형성과 색변화)

  • In this study, an Co/Fe coated porcelain using a cobalt and ferrous sulfate was sintered at 1,250 ℃. The specimens were investigated by HR-XRD, FE-SEM (EDS), Dilatometer, and UV-vis spectrophotometer. The surface of the porcelain was uniformly fused with the pigment, and white ware and celadon body specimens were densely fused to a certain thickness from the surface. Other new compounds were produced by the chemical reaction of cobalt/ferrous sulfate with the porcelain body during the sintering process. These compounds were identified as cobalt ferrite spinel phases for white ware and white mixed ware, and an andradite phase for the celadon body, and the amorphous phase, respectively. As for the color of the specimens coated with cobalt and ferrous mixed pigments, it was found that the L* value was greatly affected by the white ware, and the a* and b* values were significantly changed in the celadon body. The L* values of the specimens fired with pure white ware, celadon body, and white mix ware were 72.1, 60.92, 82.34, respectively. The C7F3 pigment coated porcelain fired at 1,250 ℃ had L* values of 39.91, 50.17, and 40.53 for the white ware, celadon body, and white mixed ware, respectively; with a* values of -1.07, -2.04, and -0.19, and at b* values of 0.46 and 6.01, it was found to be 4.03. As a new cobalt ferrite spinel phase was formed, it seemed to have had a great influence on the color change of the ceramic surface.

Association Analysis of the 6-bp Deletion Variant of the MYH3 Gene with Meat Color Traits in Crossbred (Landrace × Jeju Native Black Pig) Pigs (제주재래흑돼지와 랜드레이스 교배 축군에서 MYH3 유전자의 6-bp 결실 변이와 육색 형질간의 연관성 분석)

  • This study was conducted to examine the association between the myosin heavy chain 3 (MYH3) in 6-bp deletion variant genotypes and meat color traits in a crossbred pig population Landrace and Jeju native black pigs (JNBP). The longissimus dorsi, semimembranosus, triceps brachii and biceps femoris muscle from each carcass were used for the analysis of meat color traits. A total of 187 pigs and three meat color traits, CIE L* (lightness), CIE a* (redness), and CIE b* (yellowness), were analyzed. All experimental pigs were successfully genotyped for the MYH3 6-bp deletion variant using Polymerase chain reaction (PCR) analysis. We detected three MYH3 6-bp deletion variant genotypes qq, Qq, and QQ with 0.091, 0.551 and 0.358 genotype frequencies, respectively. Compared to qq homozygotes, the MYH3 6-bp deletion QQ genotype animals showed a higher levels of the meat colors traits CIE L* (lightness), CIE a* (redness), and CIE b* (yellowness) in longissimus dorsi (p>0.05, p<0.001, p<0.001), semimembranosus (p>0.05, p<0.001, p<0.001), triceps brachii (p<0.001, p<0.001, p<0.001), and biceps femoris (p<0.01, p<0.001, p<0.001), respectively. The QQ genotype pigs was associated with increasing meat color traits in the crossbred between Landrace and JNBP. Our findings suggest that the MYH3 6-bp deletion variant genotypes can be used as valuable genetic markers for JNBP-related breeding programs to improve meat quality and control meat color traits.
