In this research, optimum design of the combined solar collector, geothermal heat pump and thermal seasonal storage system for heating and cooling a sample greenhouse is studied. In order to optimize the system from technical point of view some new control strategies and functions resulting from important TRNSYS output diagrams are presented. Temperatures of ground, rock bed storage, outlet ground heat exchanger fluid and entering fluid to the evaporator specify our strategies. Optimal heat storage is done with maximum efficiency and minimum loss. Mean seasonal heating and cooling COPs of 4.92 and 7.14 are achieved in series mode as there is no need to start the heat pump sometimes. Furthermore, optimal parallel operation of the storage and the heat pump is studied by applying the same control strategies. Although the aforementioned system has higher mean seasonal heating and cooling COPs (4.96 and 7.18 respectively) and lower initial cost, it requires higher amounts of auxiliary energy either. Soil temperature around ground heat exchanger will also increase up to $1.5^{\circ}C$ after 2 years of operation as a result of seasonal storage. At the end, the optimum combined system is chosen by trade-off between technical and economic issues.

The cathode design is one of the most important parts in order to enhance the performance of fuel cells. A 3-D model of the porous oxygen reducing cathode with perforated current collectors is analysed for the enhanced design in fuel cells. Simulation is performed using equations of electric potential balance, momentum balance, and mass balance. The gas concentrations are quite large and are significantly affected by the reactions that take place. The weight fraction of oxygen, velocity field for the gas phase, and local overvoltage are illustrated in the porous reactive cathode layer. The current density is also analysed and the result shows the distribution and variation are stated in a wide range. It is found that the rate of reaction and the current production is higher beneath the orifice, and decreases as the distance to the gas inlet increases. The significance of the results is discussed in the viewpoint of the mass transportation phenomena, which is inferred that the mass transport of reactants dictates the efficiency of the electrode in this design and at these conditions.

Fluorine-doped tin oxide (FTO), which is commonly used in dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs), is a promising material of transparent conducting oxides (TCOs) because of advantages such as high chemical stability, high resistance, high optical transparency (>80% at 550nm), and low electrical resistivity (${\sim}10-4{\Omega}{\cdot}cm$). Especially, dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs) have been actively studied since Gratzel's research group required FTO substrate as a charge collector. When FTO substrates are used in DSSCs, photo-injected electrons may experience recombination at interface between dye-bonded semiconductor oxides ($TiO_2$) on FTO substrate and the electrolyte. To solve these problems, one is that because recombination at FTO substrate cannot be neglected, thin $TiO_2$ layer on FTO substrate as a blocking layer was introduced. The other is to control the morphology of surface on FTO substrate to reduce a loss of electrons. The structural, electrical, and optical characteristics of morphology controlled-FTO thin films as TCO materials were analyzed by X-Ray Diffraction (XRD), Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM), Hall Effect Measurement, and UV spectrophotometer. The performance of DSSCs fabricated with morphology controlled FTO substrates was performed using Power Conversion Efficiency (PCE). We will discuss these results in detail in Conference.
Monolithic NOR and INVERTER active optical logic devices inte- grated with surface-emitting microlasers, heterojunction photo- transistors(HPT) in parallel and resistors in series are characterized. The differential quantum efficiency of the typical AlGaAs superlattice microlaser integrated in the active optical logic devices is 15%. Current gain of the HPT is 57, when emitter-collector voltage and input optical power are 4 V and $50{\mu}W$, respectively. $57{\mu}W$ of output power from the active optical logic device decreases to zero when $47{\mu}W$ of input optical power is incident on the HPT part of the active logic device.
This study examined the cooling performance of a solar heating and cooling system for an office building using the dynamic simulation program (TRNSYS). This solar heating and cooling system incorporates evacuated tube solar collectors of $204m^2$, storage tank of $8m^3$, 116.2kW auxiliary heater, single-effect $LiBr/H_2O$ absorption chiller of 20RT nominal cooling capacity. It was found that for the representing day showed peak cooling load the annual average collection efficiency of the collector was 32.9% and coefficient of performance of single-effect $LiBr/H_2O$ absorption chiller was 0.68. And the results shows for the cooling season the solar fraction of the solar heating and cooling system was 32.2% and maximal and minimal solar fraction was 63.4% for May 17.9% for July respectively.
The corrosion and degradation factors of a current collector in a molten carbonate fuel cell (MCFC) were investigated to determine the optimized coating thickness of nickel on STS316L. The results show that the surface morphology and electrical properties depended on the nickel coating thickness. The surface morphology gradually changed from a flat to a porous structure along as the nickel coating thickness decreased, and the electrical resistance of the nickel-coated STS316L increased as the nickel coating thickness decreased. This can be attributed to the diffusion of elements of Fe and Cr from the substrate through the nickel grain boundaries. Additionally, carburization in the metal grains or grain boundaries in an anodic environment was found to influence the electrical properties due to matrix distortion. The resistance of Cr-oxide layers formed in an anodic environment causes a drop in the potential, resulting in a decrease in the system efficiency.
This study has been prepared for the purpose of developing the system performance prediction method of natural circulation solar hot water system. The storage tank of the natural circulation solar hot water system equipped with flat-plate solar collector is located at higher elevation than the solar collectors. Therefor, the storage tank temperature distribution formed accordance with configuration of storage tank by flow rate of circulating fluid affect system collection efficiency. In this study measure the storage tank temperature distribution with various experimental system under real sun condition and present the theoretical prediction method of the storage tank temperature. Moreover measure the flow rate not only day-time but also night-time reverse flow rate with die injection visual flow meter. Main conclusion obtain from the present study is as follows; 1) The storage tank temperature distribution above the connecting pipe connection position is the same as that of the fully mixed tank and below the connection position is the same as that of stratified tank. 2) The system performance sensitive to the storage tank temperature distribution. Therefore detailed tank model is necessary. Average storage tank temperature can be calculate 3% and storage tank temperature profile can get less than 10% difference with this model system.
The heat transfer experiment in a latent heat storage tank as a solar energy storage system for the hot water supply was carried out. The latent heat storage tank was consisted of triple - tube type ; Outer shell for hot water from solar collector, PCM storage vessel in the middle of the tank and inside tube for hot water recovery. The heat storage tank has the dimension of 60 cm long and 34 cm outside diameter. Paraffin wax(m.p = 55.4C) and sodium acetate trihydrate(m.p = 58 C) were employed as the PCM this study. Experimental variables were inlet temperature and flow rate of the hot water for heat storage stage and cold water for heat recovery stage. Temperature profiles, heat transfer coefficient and the efficiency of heat storage$(Q/Q_{max})$ and heat recovery $(Q/Q_{max})$ were determined for the paraffin wax and inorganic salt respectively.
The heat transfer experiment in a pilot scale latent heat storage tank as a solar energy storage system for the hot water supply was carried out. The latent heat storage tank was consisted of three parts; Outer shell for hot water from solar collector, PCM storage vessel in the middle of the tank and immersed coil in the PCM vessel for hot water recovery. The heat storage tank has the dimension of 115 cm in height and 32 cm outside diameter. Paraffin wax (m.p = 55.4C) and sodium acetate trihydrate (m.p = 58 C) were employed as the PCM this study. In a hot water system using solar energy, solar heat is not simply collected by the heat collecting plate, but by heat exchange between the solar collector (flat or vacuum type) and the hot water storage tank. Therefore, the amount of collected solar energy depends on the hot water usage patterns that determine the temperature of the thermal storage tank. Also, if the temperature of the hot water stored in the storage tank exceeds the dangerous temperature during the summer, the heat must be released for safety. If the temperature of the hot water in the storage tank is low, it is necessary to heat by the auxiliary heat source. In this study, three buildings are defined as hotel, swimming pool, and school facilities. And we calculated the released heat energy, auxiliary heat source, and pure storage heat energy based on different hot water usage patterns and installation angle of the solar collectors.
