  • Purpose: To develop a substantive theory that represents hospital nurses' experience on caring for dying patients. Method: Grounded theory method guided the data collection and analysis. A purposeful sample of 15 hospital nurses participated during the period of 2001-2002. The data were collected by semi-structured individual interviews. All interviews were audio taped and transcribed verbatim. Constant comparative analysis was employed to analyze the data. Result: 'Putting oneself into shape while being faithful to feelings and emotions' emerged as the basic social-psychological process. Three different phases were identified: being faithful to own feelings and behaviors; putting oneself into shape; and mourning death. The first phase includes the categories of 'establishing trust relationships' and 'sympathizing with dying patients and their family members.' The second phase consists of 'controlling feelings,' 'adjusting ethical conflicts,' and 'providing best patient-care,' and 'helping family accept the jeath.' And the third phase consists of 'overcoming sadness' and 'releasing other negative feelings.' Conclusion: The result of this study will help health professionals develop efficient support programs that support nurses caring for dying patients in hospitals. Further study needs to be done to verify findings.

  • This paper is to investigate the characteristics of debris flow landslides in Gangwon Province through literature review, data collection and analyses and site investigation. As results of data analyses about landslides occurred currently in this province, the landslide in the form of debris flow is found to be 55 %. Therefore major loss and costs are caused by discharge of soil and rock fragments from landslide. From results of analyzing the geometrical characteristics of landslide, length of most of landslide is less than 200 m, their width is in the range of 10 - 40 m, most of them are know to be occurred in lower elevation than 400 m. Slope angle is in the range of 25 - 35 degrees. Comparing the period of rainfall intensity with the time of landslide being occurred, occurrence of landslide is quite related to duration of a heavy rainfall. For measures of controlling water flow discharge and debris flow, considering geological and topographical ground conditions, appropriate selection and building check dam, erosion control dam and ring net is very beneficial for reducing the loss and costs caused by the landslide of debris flow.

Collected data were put into a written document. Content analysis was held by loading the documents into NVIVO 8 Statistical Programme. Results: The study comprised themes such as cervical risk factor, decision of taking pap-smear test, taking pap-smear test, knowledge about pap-smear test, relieving factors during pap-smear test, obstructive factors during pap-smear test, gynecological examination and feelings of women during and after pap-smear test while waiting for the results. Conclusions: As women perceive gynaecological examinations differently from other examinations, they have different feelings in each process of the Pap smear test. Medical staff should advise women more clearly on the nature and advantages of the Pap-smear test.

After collecting all the data, we calculated the frequency through the text mining and selected the main words for future data analysis. Data collection was conducted from Google Web and News during the period from January 1, 2013 to December 31, 2017. The selected 64 words were analyzed by using UCINET 6.0 program, and the analysis results were visualized with NetDraw in order to present the relationship of main words. As a result, it was found that the most important goal for the students from cooking school is to work as a cook, likewise to have practical classes. In addition, we obtained the result that SNS marketing system that the social sites, such as Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram are actively utilized as a marketing strategy of the institute. Therefore, the results can be helpful in searching for the method of utilizing big data and can bring brand-new ideas for the follow-up studies. In practical terms, it will be remarkable material about the future marketing directions and various programs that are improved by the detailed curriculums through semantic network of cooking school by using big data.

  • Cancer is a major health problem in Oman. It is reported that cancer incidence in Oman is the second highest after Saudi Arabia among Gulf Cooperation Council countries. Based on GLOBOCAN estimates, Oman is predicted to face an almost two-fold increase in cancer incidence in the period 2008-2020. However, cancer research in Oman is still in its infancy. This is due to the fact that medical institutions and infrastructure that play central roles in data collection and analysis are relatively new developments in Oman. We believe the country requires an organized plan and efforts to promote local cancer research. In this paper, we discuss current research progress in cancer diagnosis using machine learning techniques to optimize computer aided cancer detection and classification (CAD). We specifically discuss CAD using two major medical data, i.e., medical imaging and microarray gene expression profiling, because medical imaging like mammography, MRI, and PET have been widely used in Oman for assisting radiologists in early cancer diagnosis and microarray data have been proven to be a reliable source for differential diagnosis. We also discuss future cancer research directions and benefits to Oman economy for entering the cancer research and treatment business as it is a multi-billion dollar industry worldwide.
