Online Collaborative Language Learning for Enhancing Learner Motivation and Classroom Engagement

  • This study examines the impact of online collaborative English language learning to enhance learner motivation and classroom engagement in university English instruction. The role of learner motivation and classroom engagement has gained much attention under the premises of current constructivist framework of English as a foreign language education. To promote learner motivation and classroom interaction in English instruction, participants in this study engaged in integrative English learning activities through online group collaboration and peer-tutoring. They exchanged productive peer response and shared their learning experiences throughout the integrative English learning activities. Digital technology played an integral role in motivating the learning process of the participants. Data for this study were gathered through an online questionnaire survey and semi-structured interviews. The data were analyzed based on the ARCS motivational model of instructional design to identify the motivational aspects of integrative English learning activities. This study reveals that participants of this study regarded online collaborative English learning activities as the positive and motivating learning experience. The online collaborative English reading instruction had positive effect on improving EFL university students' learning performance. Participants of this study also identified affective and metacognitive benefits of online collaborative EFL learning activities for learner motivation and classroom engagement. This study reveals that the social networking platform in online group collaboration played a crucial role for the participants in understanding the integration of online group collaboration as the positive and effective language learning strategy. This study may have implications in suggesting the effective instructional design for promoting learner motivation and classroom interaction in EFL education.

기업체 조직의 협력역량 요인에 대한 팀장과 팀원들의 인식을 통한 타당화 연구 (Validation Through Perceptions between Leader and Team Members on Collaborative Competencies in Corporate Organization)

  • The purpose of the study was to validate the components of practical collaborative competencies by analyzing the perceptions of corporate personnel on practical collaborative competencies. The study reviewed the theories of collaborative intelligence, collective intelligence, cooperative learning, and learning communities. Based on the results of the literature review, the study derived seven categories of participative motivation for group activities, ability to share thinking and consciousness, motivation to share experiences, ability to control emotion, ability to promote interaction, creativity, and collaborative performance as the core competencies. To validate the elements, survey was conducted for 186 corporate personnels. The results showed that the personnels perceived the following elements as important collaborative competencies: participative motivation for group activities, motivation to form participatory atmosphere, ability to manage conflict effectively, ability to form relationships, ability to form positive team atmosphere.

공급자-구매자 협력관계가 지속가능 SCM 활동에 미치는 영향 (A Study of Collaborative Relations of Supplier-Buyer on Sustainable SCM Activity)

  • 본 연구는 자동차부품업체의 공급자-구매자 협력관계가 지속가능 SCM 활동과 협력성과에 미치는 영향을 분석하고자 한다. 본 연구에서 제안된 연구모형과 가설을 검증하기 위하여 실증자료를 수집하였고 구조모형분석을 이용하여 검증하였다. 분석결과, 첫째, 공급자-구매자간 협력관계가 지속가능 SCM 활동에 정(+)의 영향을 미치는 것으로 분석되었고, 두 집단간 차이분석 결과에서도 공급자와 구매자 관점 모두 협력관계가 지속가능 SCM 활동에 정(+)의 영향을 미치는 것으로 분석되었다. 둘째, 공급자-구매자간 지속가능 SCM 활동이 협력성과에 정(+)의 영향을 미치는 것으로 분석되었고, 두 집단간 차이분석 결과에서도 공급자와 구매자 관점 모두 지속가능 SCM 활동이 협력성과에 정(+)의 영향을 미치는 것으로 분석되었다. 셋째, 공급자-구매자간 협력관계가 협력성과에 정(+)의 영향을 미치나 통계적으로 유의하지 않은 것으로 분석되었으며, 두 집단간 차이분석 결과에서는 공급자 관점은 협력관계가 협력성과에 정(+)의 영향을 미치지 않는 것으로 분석되었으나, 구매자 관점은 협력관계가 협력성과에 정(+)의 영향을 미치는 것으로 분석되어 관점의 차이에 따라 협력성과 향상에 대한 인지정도는 다른 것으로 평가된다. 본 연구결과는 공급자-구매자 협력관계에 대한 장기적으로 전략적 관계구축을 이루고자 하는 기업들에게 유용한 정보를 제공해 줄 수 있으며, 기업의 협력성과 및 경쟁력 향상을 위한 방안에 활용될 수 있다.

The Effect of Co-Regulated Learning Activities on the Improvement of Self-Regulated Learning Skills in Collaborative Learning Environments

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of co-regulated learning on the improvement of self-regulated learning skills in collaborative learning environments. One group pretest-posttest design was used in this study. The subjects were 49 undergraduate students who enrolled in 'Educational Evaluation' course. To facilitate students' co-regulated learning activities, group worksheets were developed. Students performed collaborative tasks in group by using the group worksheets over the 6 weeks. The results showed that the difference between means of the pretest and posttest was no statistically significant. It indicates that co-regulated learning activities did not have a significant effect on the improvement of self-regulated learning skills in collaborative learning environments. However, the results of additional analysis revealed that the difference between means of the pretest and posttest in case of 19 students with low self-regulated learning level was statistically significant. On the other hand, there was no statistically significant difference between means of the pretest and posttest in case of 19 students with high self-regulated learning level. It is interpreted that co-regulated learning activities positively affected the improvement of self-regulated learning skills of students with low self-regulated learning level.

Discovery, semisynthesis, biological activities, and metabolism of ocotillol-type saponins

  • Ocotillol-type saponins are one kind of tetracyclic triterpenoids, sharing a tetrahydrofuran ring. Natural ocotillol-type saponins have been discovered in Panax quinquefolius L., Panax japonicus, Hana mina, and Vietnamese ginseng. In recent years, the semisynthesis of 20(S/R)-ocotillol-type saponins has been reported. The biological activities of ocotillol-type saponins include neuroprotective effect, antimyocardial ischemia, antiinflammatory, antibacterial, and antitumor activities. Owing to their chemical structure, pharmacological actions, and the stereoselective activity on antimyocardial ischemia, ocotillol-type saponins are subjected to extensive consideration. In this review, we sum up the discovery, semisynthesis, biological activities, and metabolism of ocotillol-type saponins.

  • Since customer's demand is various and product life cycle is getting shorter, many manufacturing company is trying to reduce product development time and cost. For that reason they make an effort to design product on collaborative environment. The various activities in a product development are highly distributed. This distributed nature of the activities implies that teams will be working indifferent place and technical environments. Thus at a given time, teams might work on he same product from different perspectives. This will require efficient communication amongst the various individuals and the various softwaretools that are used by them. Therefore, there is a need for a computerized frame work that can support distributed design such that participants from different backgrounds collaborate towards one common goal. This paper presents the architecture of a collaborative design system. It then reports on the study of computerized frame work focused on collaboration for product development.

  • 본 연구는 e-Learning 협력학습 기술 개발 지원을 위한 기반 연구로서, e-Learning 에서의 협력학습을 위한 기본모형 개발과 협력학습 활동에서 발생하는 학습자들의 학습행위요소를 세부적으로 분석 제시하는 것을 연구의 목적으로 하였다. 연구의 목적을 달성하기 위하여 면대면 교실수업에서 이루어져 온 다양한 협동학습 모형들을 분석하였으며, 면대면과 온라인 환경에서 협력학습 및 커뮤니케이션 활동을 강조하는 문제중심학습, 프로젝트 학습, 탐구학습, 토론학습 등 교수모형에 기초한 주요 학습모형들의 절차와 단계, 학습활동 등도 분석하였다. 연구 결과 e-Learning에서의 협력학습을 위한 일반 모형과 세부 학습행위요소들, 그리고 시스템적 지원기능들이 제시되었으며, 추후 연구를 위한 과제가 제안되었다.

그림책을 활용한 협력활동이 유아의 자기조절력과 조망수용능력에 미치는 영향 (Effects of Collaborative Activities Using Picture Books on Self-regulation and Perspective-taking abilities of Young Children)

  • Objective: This study aimed to examine the effects of collaborative activities by utilizing picture books in order to improve the self-regulation and perspectivetaking abilities among four-year-olds. Methods: A total of 52 four-year-olds(control group 26, experimental group 26) attending two classes at D kindergarten located in B city participated in this study. Before and after the activities, all participants individually took a social perspective taking ability instrument and rated their self-regulation with a teacher. Data were analyzed by conducting ANCOVA in the way of setting pre-test scores as the covariate and post-test scores as the dependent variable. Results: First, the total and subarea of self-regulation in the experimental group was higher than the control group. Second, the cognitive and emotional perspective taking abilities in the experimental group were higher than the control group in all cares. Conclusion/Implications: The results of this study suggest that collaborative activities using picture books are effective in improving young children's selfregulation and perspective-taking abilities.

A review of the immunomodulatory activities of polysaccharides isolated from Panax species

  • Panax polysaccharides are biopolymers that are isolated and purified from the roots, stems, leaves, flowers, and fruits of Panax L. plants, which have attracted considerable attention because of their immunomodulatory activities. In this paper, the composition and structural characteristics of purified polysaccharides are reviewed. Moreover, the immunomodulatory activities of polysaccharides are described both in vivo and in vitro. In vitro, Panax polysaccharides exert immunomodulatory functions mainly by activating macrophages, dendritic cells, and the complement system. In vivo, Panax polysaccharides can increase the immune organ indices and stimulate lymphocytes. In addition, this paper also discusses the membrane receptors and various signalling pathways of immune cells. Panax polysaccharides have many beneficial therapeutic effects, including enhancing or activating the immune response, and may be helpful in treating cancer, sepsis, osteoporosis, and other conditions. Panax polysaccharides have the potential for use in the development of novel therapeutic agents or adjuvants with beneficial immunomodulatory properties.

초등수학에서 상호글쓰기 활동의 효과 분석 (Effects of Students' Collaborative Writing Activities in Elementary Mathematics)

  • 본 연구는 초등수학 5-나 단계의 수와 연산 영역, 도형 영역, 측정 영역에서 수학적 글쓰기의 한 방법인 상호글쓰기3) 활동이 학생들의 수학 학업성취도 및 성향에 미치는 영향을 알아보기 위하여 수행된 실험연구이다. 이를 위해 대구광역시 달서구에 소재한 J초등학교 5학년 2 개 학급(실험집단 : 31명, 비교집단 : 31명)을 대상으로 약 6주간 수행되었다. 본 연구에서는 수학 학업성취도 및 성향을 측정하는 두 검사도구를 선정하여 사전 사후 검사를 실시하였다. 사전검사의 분석 결과 두 집단은 동질집단이었고 사후검사는 연구문제 1과 2의 효과를 확인하는데 사용되었으며 검사결과는 t-검정으로 분석하였다. 연구결과는 아래와 같다. 첫째, 상호글쓰기 활동은 학업성취도에 있어 유의미한 결과가 나타나지 않았지만 통계적으로 어느 정도 차이가 있음을 확인할 수 있었고, 수와 연산 영역에 있어서는 유의미한 차이를 확인할 수 있었다. 둘째, 수학적 성향의 하위 영역인 수학적 자신감, 융통성, 의지, 호기심, 반성, 가치 모두에 있어서 긍정적인 영향을 받는 것으로 나타났다.
