This paper suggests a typology of the modes of collaboration for scientific and technological knowledge production and sharing (STKPS) based on knowledge communication types, including organizational factors, communication channel, intensity, and decision-making, that affect STKPS processes. It is mainly designed to rearrange ideas about collaboration drawn from the literature in order to develop a conceptual framework for categorizing modes of collaboration based on how communication patterns shape four modes of collaboration. In the conclusion and discussion part, practical implications, limitations of this study, and further studies are discussed. In particular, the practical implications propose communication patterns suitable for five stages of collaboration processes. As the collaboration initiation or set-up stage is critical, extensive face-to-face communication is recommended in the auditing stage. In the execution stage, media-based communication can be actively utilized, because collaborators will mostly exchange explicit codified knowledge supported by IT. The evaluation and reinforcement stages concentrate on tacit knowledge exchange and explicit knowledge evaluation, which requires intensive face-to-face communication including negotiations for evaluating collaboration outcomes and partnership.
Interdisciplinary research collaboration(IRC), reflected in 3,184 response of 1997 survey in Korea, is very common. IRC within same disciplines is 60%, and IRC with other disciplines is 40%. IRC with Humanities and Social Science is 11%. Policy expectations for interdisciplinary collaboration are very different depending on disciplines. The difference between disciplines and fields such as Natural Science, Life Science and Engineering is quite noticeable. Policies for interdisciplinary research collaboration are recommended to reflect the different tendencies between disciplines, at least between fields.
The purpose of this study was to explore how designers use software-based design tools for ideation and collaboration (for two cases: with designers and with developers). We conducted logistic regression analysis and random forest analysis. Software-based design tools are more popular among product designers and affiliated with design organizations with 51 to 100 members. We identify the features that influence designers to use design tools for the ideation and collaboration, and how these usage patterns are interrelated. Interrelated usage pattern is a key consideration for location of the menu and convenience of use. The results imply that reinforcement of the design tool features per designer profile is required and that design management should be consistent with the field of design and the nature of the organization.

This study aims to present explicit findings from an internal perspective, namely the interaction patterns of marketing communication between pentahelix elements and testing the expectations of tourists towards tourism activities through a simulation model between variables. This study is divided into two methods of analysis, namely qualitative explorative, where the study aims to invest in communication patterns and patterns of interaction between pentahelix stakeholders in Sitiwinangun Tourism Village, West Java, Indonesia with involve 17 informants who came from pentahelix elements (Government, academics, community, business and media). Second, quantitative method to measure the extent of effectiveness rather than collaboration activities and the role of marketing communication to tourist satisfaction is done by an analytical approach involving 30 tourists through customer satisfaction surveys. The results of this study illustrate that the involvement of each pentahelix element has not been maximized. The pattern of interaction and communication between elements also shows the gap between interests, expectations, and reality. This study provides a real picture that to realize a tourism program that is profitable, holistic, and sustainable requires collaboration that is wrapped with transparent and interactive communication patterns. The marketing communication concept approach combined with collaboration theory between stakeholders can be useful for sustainable tourism.

The collaboration is becoming ever more widespread in scientific research. Unlike collaboration in other areas such as in a company, research collaboration has an unique feature that it is reflected by scholars' characteristics. Based on previous studies on research collaboration, five major factors are identified. We propose five hypotheses from them and examine these by using both in-person questionnaire survey and relational bibliometric analysis. The survey analysis informs individual choice factors and the bibliometric analysis informs collective consequence factors. The results of this study may have implications for science policies and digital collaboration services.
In the recent Internet environment, there are different competition patterns among competitors as it was before. As we see real world example such as Covisint in automobile industry and Exostar in aerospace industry, collaboration among competitors now takes place and industry-wide B2B marketplaces come into existence. Hence, we suggest the extended system dynamics simulation model based on Kim(2002)’s collaboration profit models in order to explain competitors’ collaboration in the e-business environment. After all, we investigate the necessity of collaboration between competitors, and show the presence of the optimal investment decision making to collaborate. We also show that the effect of collaboration is changed as varying the industry characteristics such as standardization and volatility.
Nowadays research collaboration between the business, academic and governmental community is high on the policy agenda in all over the world, especially with regard to science-based technological innovation. The aim of this paper is to explore some of the changing spatial patterns of research collaboration by carrying out bibliometric analysis of co-authorship publications in major international and scientific journals that are jointly realized by Korean scientists and researchers in the seven science-based technologies for the period 2002~2012. Using the co-authored papers as an indicator of research collaboration with the institutional address of each co-authoring researcher and the geographic location of their affiliation, this paper describes some trends and patterns of domestic and international research collaborations. Identifying a rapid increase in the volume of co-authored papers and the trend towards multiple authorships over the last decade, the paper finds collaborative scientific research to be geographically dispersed at the different spatial scales. Despite the rising geographic dispersion of research collaboration within the nation, this paper finds that there were empirical evidences for the presence of localized knowledge production processes at regional level, and biased knowledge flows towards core areas with advanced research resources.

Research collaboration between industry and universities is high on many policy agenda's nowadays, especially with regard to science-based technological innovation. Nonetheless, there have been few attempts at examining large-scale systematic and quantitative data on the nature and extent of university-industry collaborations. The objective of this paper is to explore the patterns and trends of research collaborations between universities and companies for scientific knowledge production in the seven science-based technologies. This paper uses co-authored articles published in major scientific journals in the world as an indicator of collaborative scientific research between universities, companies and governmental research institutes. The tens of thousands of co-authorship papers in the northeast region in the US over the years 2006 to 2010 were analyzed for collaboration patterns and their spatial characteristics. This paper finds that there were increases both in the proportions of multiple authored, particularly five or more, papers, and in the volume of international collaborations. By examining a type of collaborations between different institutions, research collaboration between universities and companies in this region is relatively high share at national level. This suggests that the national or even international scale seems more appropriate for innovation policies.

Current global construction market has grown at a dramatic expansion rate every year in connection with more market accessibility by foreign contractors. The market openness is largely due to globalization of world construction markets, rapid development of world-wide telecommunication technologies, the formation of collaborative acquisitions and joint ventures among contractors, development of regional Free Trade Blocks, and just name a few. This paper focuses on the formation of collaborative networks when expanding into new foreign markets. The social network analysis (SNA) is introduced to investigate a variety of the collaboration patterns and also their impacts on the performance. To this end, the collaboration cases of 600 international construction projects performed by Korean contractors since 1990 were collected and classified into firm's size, project types, collaboration modes, and performance levels using social network analysis. The results showed a direction in establishing business strategy associated with experienced or inexperienced contractors in international construction projects.
