The heat transfer enhancement by pulsating flow in a plate heat exchanger has been experimentally investigated in this study. The effect of the pulsating flow, such as pulsating frequency and flow rate, on the heat transfer as well as pressure drop in a plate heat exchanger has been studied in detail. Reynolds number in cold side of a plate heat exchanger is varied $100{\sim}530$ while that of hot side is fixed at 620. The pulsating frequency is considered in the range of $5{\sim}30$ Hz. The results of the pulsating flow are also compared with those of steady flow. It is found that the average heat transfer rate as well as pressure drop is increased as flow rate is increased for both steady flow and pulsating flow cases. When pulsating flow is applied to the plate heat exchanger, heat transfer could be substantially increased in particular ranges of pulsating frequency or Strouhal number; $St=0.36{\sim}0.60$ and pressure drop is also increased, compared with those of steady flow.

However, in the region of low pulsating frequency or high pulsating frequency, heat transfer enhancement is in meager. Heat transfer enhancement map is suggested based on Strouhal number and Reynolds number of pulsating flow.
The objectives of this paper are to study the characteristics of heat transfer and pressure drop of the plate heat exchanger with corrugation height by numerical analysis. Plate heat exchanger of three types was designed, which was corrugation height 3.1mm, 2.8mm and 2.5mm. The plate heat exchanger was numerically investigated for Reynolds number in a range of 950~3,380. The temperatures of the hot side were performed at $14.5^{\circ}C$ while that of the cold side was conducted at $4.5^{\circ}C$. The results show that the performance of heat transfer coefficient for corrugation height 2.5mm increases about 9.5~17.1% compared to that of corrugation height 3.1mm. On the other hand, the performance of pressure drop for corrugation height 2.5mm is remarkably higher than that of corrugation height 3.1mm, about 65.7~86.0%.
In a BAF(Batch Annealing Furnace), various studies have been pursued in order to reduce energy consumption rate to improve productivity and to stabilize the properties of products. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of both the atmospheric gas and convector plate shapes on the augmentation of heat transfer. The use of hydrogen instead of nitrogen as an atmospheric gas, combined with high convection in the BAF, has shown that considerable increases in furnace out put and significantly improved material quality are attainable. Because convector plate shapes make the atmosheric gas easily flow density, high diffusivity and reducing character of hydrogen, a better heat transfer rates resulting in uniform material temperature distribution and improved coil surface quality can be achieved. Also, it was found that the closed convector plate took more time for the annealing cycle time than the other plate type(open-type)by about ten hours.
This work studies qualitative thermal characteristics of PCM cold storage medium container and its surrounding streams. Experimental parameters are initial PCM temperature and cold water flow rate. A mathematical modeling was establised to estimate temperature distribution and the cooling process. We found that the phase-change temperatures of PCM varies from 6 to $8^{\circ}C$ which is constant for other materials and that the dominant heat transfer resistance is that on the container side taking about 3/4 of the total resistance. The one dimensional mathematical model predicts experimental data quit well.
Current steel makers are trying to develop new manufacturing process to secure price competition and to improve productivity by testing a various kinds of rolling condition of several kinds of steel at TCM. Accordingly, Reverse Mill operation for Stainless steel is changing to TCM operation and furthermore, even general carbon steel and electric steel plate are requested to be worked at TCM simultaneously. By these changing of rolling condition, it become to be necessary to develop new water-soluble cold rolling oil that has a characteristics to be suitable for various working condition and in this report, we would like to mention lubrication condition to fulfill requested characteristics of each steels and development and applying result of multi-purpose water-soluble cold rolling oil which has such an lubrication property.
Non-linear large-displacement elasto-plastic finite element analyses are used to propose design recommendations for the eaves bracket of a cold-formed steel portal frame. Owing to the thinness of the sheet steel used for the brackets, such a structural design problem is not trivial as the brackets need to be designed against failure through buckling; without availability of the finite element method, expensive laboratory testing would therefore be required. In this paper, the finite element method is firstly used to predict the plastic moment capacity of the eaves bracket. Parametric studies are then used to propose design recommendations for the eaves bracket against two potential buckling modes of failure: (1) buckling of the stiffened free-edge into one-half sine wave, (2) local plate buckling of the exposed triangular bracket area. The results of full-scale laboratory tests on selected geometries of eaves bracket demonstrate that the proposed design recommendations are conservative. The use of the finite element method in this way exploits modern computational techniques for an otherwise difficult structural design problem.
Many in the industrial world that consume high amounts of energy are trying to reduce energy when manufacturing their products. Energy saving during manufacturing is a cost reduction. Reduced cost is necessary for profit improvement. The Piston Under Drive Brake used in the current study is an automotive transmission part. The original machining after hot forging was changed to machining after cold forging of a plate in order to save energy and cost. Two extrusion shapes along the outer diameter caused decreased tool life because of the interrupted cut during turning. Therefore, a thickness reduction of two extrusion areas in the outer diameter was needed. The current study suggests an effective way to reduce the thickness of interrupted cut by using progressive blanking.
This paper presents the weldability for cold pressure but welding method in junction of dissimilar metals each other. Although the weldability between the same aluminium metal plate welding has been studied, the study of itthe rod of aluminium and coper has not fully been investigated. The purpose is to suggest the optimal conditions on the rod of those under above method. To obtain the optimal conditions, associated experiments were performed in a various welding parameters. Consequently, it was proved that the mechanical properties such as tensile strength, hardness and bending strength could be obtained excellent particularly under the welding conditions; pressure is $(32~39) {\times} 10^3/kg/cm^2$, time is beyond 70 seconds, stage is higher than fifth stage.
The steel plate-girder bridges with concrete gravity piers have possibilities of overturning by lateral inertial force which can be reproduced by sudden earthquake attack. This paper explores an overturning mechanism of existing concrete gravity pier onto the sandy soil in the event of lateral push-over load by in-situ experimental observation. The in-situ push-over experiment for pier with earth anchors between spread footing and rock beds exhibits a reasonable enhancement of ductility against overturning. In unanchored system, a flexural crack at cold joint of concrete pier is not developed because of the over-turning of the pier. This leads a global instability (rotation) of pier-footing system with relatively low stresses in pier itself. While a lateral load is persistently increased in anchored system, the successive flexural cracking failure at cold joint is observed even after the local shear failure of soil due to redistribution of stress equilibrium between soil and pier structure as long as a tensile action of anchor cable is active.
