Through the translation and comparative study of the enriching blood and nourishing vital essence(補陰血方劑) in "The Elimination & Supplement about the Famous Prescription Comments(刪補名醫方論)" of "The Golden Mirror of Medicine(醫宗金鑑)" with "The Famous Prescription Comments on Ancient and Modern Times(古今名醫方論)", we confirmed that about 50% of the sentences from "The Elimination & Supplement about the Famous Prescription Comments(刪補名醫方論)" were quoted in "The Famous Prescription Comments on Ancient and Modern Times(古今名醫方論)", and that many of the text were not quoted unchanged, but were revised and supplemented. In organization, the prescription with the fewer number of component drugs is given first, followed by that with more component drugs, and that with similar component drugs is explained subsequently to facilitate understanding. In the prescription notes, it is emphasized that when enriching blood, the invigorative method(補氣法) is very important and that cold or pungent herb should be very carefully used.

Objectives Syndrome differentiation and treatment (辨證論治) is one of the core theories in Korean medicine and syndrome differentiation (辨證) constitutes a branch of disease diagnosis in Korean medicine. Yoon Gil-Young, one of the modern outstanding scholar of basic medical science in Korean medicine, wrote on basic theories of Korean medicine such as physiology, pathology, formula science, etc. Hereby we will analyze and discuss his works to understand his recognition of historical changes in the syndrome differentiation. Methods We conducted researches into the two works of Yoon Gil-Young's, which are "The Clinical Formula Science of Eastern Medicine (東醫臨床方劑學)" and "The theory of Four-Constitution Medicine (四象體質醫學論)". From Yoon's academic standpoint which connects the basic medical science with the clinical medicine, we analyzed his opinion about syndrome differentiation and its historical changes. Results According to Yoon's research work on syndrome differentiation and its historical changes, the development of syndrome differentiation, which goes in harmony with the history of Korean medicine, has its deep root in " Huangdi's Internal Classic (黃帝內經)" and "Treatise on Cold Damage and Miscellaneous Diseases (傷寒雜病論)". And through "Treatise on the Spleen and Stomach (脾胃論)" and the articles of warm disease (溫病論), the theory of syndrome differentiation became extended to the whole clinical diagnostic field in Korean medicine, finally including the achievements in "Treasured Mirror of Eastern Medicine (東醫寶鑑)", "Longevity and Life Preservation in Eastern Medicine (東醫壽世保元)". Conclusions Yoon Gil-Young recognized that the system of syndrome differentiation was developed in accordance with the theories from the "Treatise on Cold Damage and Miscellaneous Diseases", then the "Treatise on the Spleen and Stomach" and the articles of warm disease. The four-constitution medicine in Korea and Koho school in Japan which lays emphasis on abdominal signs also contributed to its development. Syndrome differentiation can be categorized basically into three states of intrinsic cold (本寒), intrinsic deficiency (本虛), intrinsic heat (本熱) according to the deficiency and excess in human body metabolism.

Friction in cold forging with mist lubrication is measured with the ring compression test. Small quantity of mist lubricant is sprayed onto the surfaces of cemented tungsten carbide (WC) tools polished to mirror surfaces, and the specimens of pure aluminum are compressed. It is found that spraying small quantity of lubricant $(0.5\;g/m^2)$ is effective to reduce the friction in comparison with the dry condition. The mist particles stick to the tool surface as separated dots, and the behavior of the trapped mist lubricant between the tool and specimen during upsetting is discussed.

본 논문에서는 3차원 입체 비디오처리 기술의 최종목표인 디지털 홀로그램을 생성하는데 필요한 정보인 객체의 좌표와 색상정보를 얻기 위해서 간단하게 장면이 정확히 일치하는 RGB image와 depth image를 생성할 수 있는 시스템을 구축하는 방법을 제안하였다. 가시광선과 적외선의 파장을 이용하여 파장에 따라 투과율이 달라지는 cold mirror를 사용하여 같은 시점에 대한 RGB + depth image를 얻은 후, 전처리 과정에서 카메라 왜곡에 대한 lens correction과정을 걸친 후, 해상도를 맞추기 위한 resolution resize과정을 마친 후, 디지털 홀로그램으로 구현 할 object를 추출한다. 그 다음 CGH(computer-generated hologram) 알고리즘으로 추출한 object를 CGH로 만든다.

KASI (Korea Astronomy and Space Science Institute) is developing the near-infrared camera system named KASINICS (KASI Near-Infrared Camera System) which will be installed at the 60cm f/13.5 Ritchey-Chretien telescope of the Sobaeksan Optical Astronomy Observatory (SOAO). The camera system is optimized for JHKL bands and has a 6 arcmin FOV. The optical system consists of two spherical mirrors and a 8-position filter wheel. With the exception for the dewar window, all optical elements are cooled inside cryogenic dewar. Since the Offner system is adopted to prevent thermal noises from outside of the telescope primary mirror, the secondary mirror of the Offner system acts as a cold Lyot stop. The optical performance does not change by temperature variations because the Aluminum mirrors contract and expand homogeneously with its mount. We finished the design and fabrication of the optical parts and are now aligning the optical system. We plan to have a test observation on 2006 January.

An empirical formula that has been empirically shown to be effective for a particular condition can be said to add medicinal materials to an existing formula or to make a new prescription by the Korean medical doctors' empirical clinic. This dissertation aims to study the prescriptions according to A Confidential Document of A Distinguished Medical Family written by the writer's ancestor and to contribute to the development of Korean medicine. A Confidential Document of A Distinguished Medical Family is a medicinal recipe that is an heirloom of the Gyeongju Kim family for the eighth generation. And the date and the writer of the book are unknown. The contents of the book consist of 18 parts and are made up of about 300 medical recipes. Of these, 158 formulas and indications of cold damage, wind, urination, stool, jaundice, and internal injury are found in the book. From among these, 61 formulas was directly quoted out of The Precious Mirror of Oriental Medicine, 97 formulas are adjusted in proportion or combined. By the parity of reasoning of the above, I think that this book was published after The Precious Mirror of Oriental Medicine. I will continue to study other formulas except the formulas above mentioned.

The moss Physcomitrella patens has two life cycles, filamentous protonema and leafy gametophore. A modified from of suppression subtractive hybridization (SSH), mirror orientation selection (MOS), was applied to screen genes differentially expressed in the P. patens protonema. Using reverse Northern blot analysis, differentially expressed clones were identified. The identified genes were involved mainly in metal binding and detoxification. One of these genes was an AP2 (APETALA2) domain-containing protein (PpACP1), which was highly up-regulated in the protonema. Alignment with other AP2/EREBPs (Ethylene Responsive Element Binding Proteins) revealed significant sequence homology of the deduced amino acid sequence in the AP2/EREBP DNA binding domain. Northern analysis under various stress conditions showed that PpACP1 was induced by ethephon, cadmium, copper, ABA, IAA, and cold. In addition, it was highly expressed in suspension-cultured protonema. We suggest that PpACP1 is involved in responses to metals, and that suspension culture enhance the expression of genes responding to metals.

We have constructed a level-1 processor to generate brightness temperatures using the direct-broadcast data from the passive microwave radiometer onboard Aqua satellite. Although 50-minute half-orbit data, called a granule, are being routinely produced by global data centers, to our knowledge, this is the first attempt to process 10-minute long direct-broadcast (DB) data. We found that the processor designed for a granule needs modification to apply to the DB data. The modification includes the correction to path number, the selection of land mask and the manipulation of dummy scans. Pixel-to-pixel comparison with a reference indicates the difference in brightness temperature of about 0.2 K rms and less than 0.05 K mean. The difference comes from the different length of data between 50-minute granule and about 10-minute DB data. In detail, due to the short data length, DB data do not always have correct cold sky mirror count. The DB processing system is automated to enable the near-real time generation of brightness temperatures within 5 minutes after downlink. Through this work, we would be able to enhance the use of AMSR-E data, thus serving the objective of direct-broadcast.

The purpose of this study is to analyze the costume in $\ulcorner$The Goddess Abides$\lrcorner$ of Pearl S. Buck by applying "Dramaturgical Analysis" of Erving Goffman. The frame of analysis is the dramaturgical conception of Goffman that he expressed in $\ulcorner$The Presentation of self in Everyday Life (1959)$\lrcorner$. Among the conception, I analyzed by applying 'performance', 'technique of impression management', 'region and region behavior' which can be used for studying and costume behavior. The following is the summary of my study. First, the performance means the performer's behavior and the procedure of impression management if face to fact interaction, which includes personal front and setting. Setting is mainly a house on the Mt. in Vermont. The time is Winter. The personal front includes appearance and manner. actors and audiences form impression through persional front. And Istudied the performance of the actors (or actress), Edith, Jared, Edmond, Edwin, Amelia, June. As for technique of impression management, I cold observe that a varieth of that were being used, such as the most general one that Edith wants to look beautiful by making god appearance, or she sometimes try not to look beautiful And when Edith meets Jared, sometimes she changed her clothes, but other times she doesn't do that. As for region and region behavior, there appears the distinction of region and a lot of expressions about clothes related to the distinction. I could observe the expressions showing the movement from front to back and from back to front. Especially I could observe the behaviors that can be occured only in back region in everyday life, that is bathing, changing clothes, making up, checking their appearance before the mirror. Like above when I analyzed $\ulcorner$The Goddess Abides$\lrcorner$ of Pearl S. Buck by Goffman's Dramaturgical analysis, I could find out that the theory was very useful to the analysis of the costume behaviors of the characters.

Snow cover is a potential water resource for later spring and summer seasons as well as a thermal mirror with high reflectivity causing decreases of surface air temperature during cold winter seasons. In this study, current and future changes in Northern Hemisphere snow extent and their potential linkages with atmospheric circulation are examined. The NOAA AVHRR visible snow extent (1967-2006) data as well as observational (NCEP-DOE 1979-2006) and modeled (GFDL 2.1 2081-2100) pressure and surface air temperature data are used. Analyses of observational data demonstrate that the snow extent in meteorological spring (March to April) and summer (June to August) has significantly decreased since the late 1980s. The offset of snow seasons (the timing of snow melt in spring) have also significantly advanced particularly in Europe, East Asia, and northwestern North America. Analyses of pressure fields reveal that the spatial patterns of the earlier snow melt are associated with changes in atmospheric circulation such as the Arctic Oscillation (AO). In the positive winter AO years, multiple positive pressure departure cores in the upper troposphere (200hPa) are observed over the mid-latitude regions from March to mid-April, while a negative pressure departure core (70hPa) prevails over the Arctic Ocean. The reversed anomaly patterns related to later snow melt occur in negative winter AO years. The comparison between current and future thermal spring onsets suggest that snow melt patterns will intensify with larger greenhouse gas emissions, indicating earlier hydrological spring onset.
