  • Forefront ultrafast experimental techniques have recently proven their potential as new approaches to understand materials based on non-equilibrium dynamics in the time domain. The time domain approach is useful especially in disentangling complicated coupling among charge, spin and lattice degrees of freedom. Various ultrafast experiments on Fe-based superconductors have observed strong coherent oscillations of an $A_{1g}$ phonon mode of arsenic ions, which shows strong coupling to the electronic and magnetic states. This paper reviews the recent reports of ultrafast studies on Fe-based superconductor with a focus on the coherent oscillations. Experimental results with ultrashort light sources from the terahertz-infrared pulses to the hard X-rays from a free electron laser will be presented.

  • We have identified two new features related to the coherent transport in the mesoscopic loop structure of aluminum wire, including the autocorrelation of the conductance fluctuations beyond $B_c$ and fine structure in the low-field magnetoresistance curve in the superconducting transition regime, which, to the best of our knowledge, have not been reported in the literature. Since the electrons in Al have a phase coherence length larger than $1\;{\mu}m$ at or below T = 3K, which is comparable to the dimensions of the structure, the wave nature of the electronic transport has been clearly observed: the universal conductance fluctuations, the Aharonov-Bohm oscillations, and the Altshuler-Aronov-Spivak oscillations. Due to the transition of Al to a superconducting state at T = 1.3 K, the coherent phenomena of Cooper pairs, i.e., the Little-Parks oscillations, have also been observed.

  • Coherent oscillations in is fluorescence dynamics of W.-t. PYP and its site-directed mutants have been observed. Two oscillatory modes coupled with the ultrafast fluorescence due to the twisting of the excited chromophore were identified, a high ftequency mode (∼135 cm$\^$-1/) with ∼550 is damping time and a low frequency overdamped mode (-45 cm$\^$-1/) with ∼250 is damping time, respectively. Both modes disappear in the fluorescence dynamics of denatured PYP emphasizing the important role of the protein nanospace as the environment for photoreaction. The qualitative picture of fluorescence dynamics in site-directed mutants was rather similar to that in W.-t. PYP, i.e., similar oscillatory modes (∼130-140 cm$\^$-1/ and ∼40-70 cm$\^$-1/) have been observed. This indicates that the vibrational modes and electron-vibration couplings do not change dramatically due to the mutation though the damping time of low frequency mode a little decreases as the protein nanospace structure becomes looser and more disordered by mutation. On the other hand, in the case of some PYP analogues, the qualitative picture of fluorescence dynamics changes, showing the familiar picture of solvation effect whereas the oscillations are almost damped. Comparative analyses of these observations are presented.

  • We observed the splitting of the fluxon-flow branches in the current-voltage characteristics of serially stacked intrinsic Josephson junctions (IJJs) formed in $Bi_2$$Sr_2$$CaCu_2$$O_{ 8+x}$ single crystals in the long-junction limit. Stacks of IJJs were sandwiched between two Au electrodes deposited on the top and the bottom of the stack using the ‘double-side cleaving technique’. In all the samples studied, the branch splitting started occurring for a dense fluxon configuration around 2 T and became more distinct in a higher magnetic field range. This observation can be explained in terms of switching between different Josephson fluxon modes in resonance with the collective plasma oscillations induced by both inductive and capacitive coupling between stacked IJJs. This is the first detailed and quantitative identification of the coherent flux-flow modes in stacked..

  • Recently, there has been much interests in InGaN/GaN multiple-quantum-well (MQW) structures due to their applicability as optoelectronic devices such as light-emitting diodes (LEDs) and laser diodes [1]. Their ultrafast and physical properties are also of significant interests. Anomalously large acoustic phonon oscillations have been observed using ultrafast lasers in InGaN MQWs [2]. In this study, we have peformed femtosecond pump-probe experiments in the reflection geometry on 5 periods InGaN/GaN MQW LED structure with well width of 20$\AA$ and barrier width of 100$\AA$ at room temperature. • The amplitude and phase lag of surface deformation were determined for a compliant coating under the action of turbulent pressure fluctuations. For this purpose, pressure fluctuations were measured experimentally. The amplitude and duration of coherent wave train of pressure fluctuations were investigated using digital filtration. The transient response was calculated for stabilization of forced oscillations of the coating in approximation of local deformation. The response of coating was analyzed with considerations of its inertial properties and limited duration of coherent harmonics action of pressure fluctuations. It is shown that a compliant coating interacts not with the whole spectrum of pressure fluctuations, but only with a frequency range near the first resonance. According to the analysis, with increasing elasticity modulus of the coating material E, deformation amplitude decreases as 1/E, and dimensionless velocity of the coating surface decreases as $1/\sqrt{E}$. For sufficiently hard coatings, deformation amplitude becomes smaller than the thickness of viscous sublayer, while surface velocity remains comparable to vertical velocity fluctuations of the flow.

  • Exploration of the wave-mode identification and its propagating property in the solar pore is desirable to study the energy transfer in the solar atmosphere. The Fast Imaging Solar Spectrograph (FISS) installed at the New Solar Telescope (NST) is a unique system that can do imaging of H-alpha and Ca II 8542 band simultaneously, which is quite suitable for studying of dynamics of chromosphere. In this study, we inspect a relationship between the cross-sectional area and intensity of the pore at continuum (-0.4 nm) near the Ca II line. We find coherent oscillations of the area and intensity. They shows out-of-phase (~ 180 degree difference) in photosphere, which implies that the oscillation is fast sausage mode. We also investigate a relationship between LOS velocities above the pore obtained from the Ca II and the Ha line cores, and find no significant difference of the phase (~10 degree) between the formation heights of the lines in chromosphere.

  • We have measured the transport properties of $Bi_2$$Sr_2$$CaCu_2$$O_{8+d}$ (BSCCO) intrinsic Josephson junction mesa. Transport measurements with current flow along the c-axis, perpendicular to the layer of mesa showed multi-branch structures on the current-voltage characteristics. For single intrinsic junctions, the microwave radiation appears in the form of three different modes of oscillations, which include Josephson emission, nonequilibrium broad emission and sharp coherent microwave emission. Mutual phase interactions between two-mesas structures of BSCCO intrinsic Josephson junctions were studied. The results were explained within the framework of the Josephson plasma excitation model due to quasiparticle injection.n.

  • We have investigated Pi 2 pulsations which were observed both on ground magnetometer array and by satellites. On November 9th in 1994, Pi 2 pulsations appeared globally on the 190/210 magnetometer chain and Hermanus station when two satellites(EXOS-D and ETS-VI) were located near the magnetic meridian of the 210 array. The local time of measurements covers from morning(LT=8.47hr) to afternoon(LT=20.3hr) and the bandwidth of peak frequency is found relatively small. The signals of the electric field are highly coherent with ground-based observations with the out of phase oscillations. However, the magnetic field measurement on the ETS-VI in the outer magnetosphere(L=6.60) shows no signature of Pi 2 pulsations over the same time interval and the correlation with any of the ground-based stations is found to be very weak, even through both satellites and magnetometer chain are located close to each other in local time. We suggest that this event may be a direct evidence of Pi 2 pulsations as virtual resonant modes which are localized in the plasmasphere(Lee 1996). The results show that the cavity mode oscillations can occur in the inner magnetosphere with less spectral noise compared to the outer magnetospheric case.
