Air wiping technique is widely used because of easy and efficient coating control in present CGL The coating weight is controlled by nozzle header pressure. strip line speed, and the distance between strip and nozzle. Coating defects are resulted from the unbalance of these control factors and the inaccuracy of coating equipments. We investigates the main cause of coating defects, such as edge overcoating and coating deviation through various experiments. It is found that the edge overcoating is mainly come from nozzle lip type, and the coating deviation is caused by the unbalance of dynamic pressure.
The effect of coating thickness on the contact fatigue and wear of thermal barrier coatings (TBCs) are investigated in this study. The same bondcoat material thickness (250 ㎛) are used for each sample, which allows the effect of the coating thickness of the topcoat to be investigated. TBCs with different coating thicknesses (200, 400, and 600 ㎛) are prepared by changing processing parameters such as the feeding rate of the feedstock, spraying speed, and spraying distance during APS(air plasma spray) coating. The damage size on the surface are strongly affected by the coating thickness effect. Although the damage size from contact fatigue using a spherical indenter diminish at a TBC of 200 ㎛, a high wear resistance such as a low friction coefficient and little mass change are found at a TBC of 600 ㎛. These results indicate that the coating thickness strongly affects the mechanical behavior in TBCs during gas turbine operation.

Tool life characteristics were investigated for the TiN coated (PVD) tungsten carbide cutting tools to improve the tool life Experimental variables for Tin coating were coating time and cathode bias voltage and cuting variables were cutting speed and feel rate. As a experiment result, TiN coated tool was extended about from 2.14 to 2.7 times than that of not coated tungsten carbide tools. Also, coating thinkness is much affected to tool life.

TiN and TiCN films were deposited on the high speed steel by Cathode Arc Ion Plating(CAIP) Process to investigate the tool life extension effect. The experiment variables were bias voltage and deposit time for the TiN coating and reactive gas flow rate ($CH_4:N_2$) under fixing deposit pressure, are current, bias voltage for the TiCN coating respectively. The micro structure and mechanical properties were investigated and compared for among the coating conditions using various methods and machining practice.

New concept of coating process, which is called Electro Magnetic Levitation-Physical Vapour deposition (EML-PVD) was developed and investigated. Zinc coating was performed and succeeded for the first time on the steel strip (Cold-rolled Steel) in a continuos pilot line using the EML-PVD process which is specialized in the high deposition rate and high vapor yield. EML-PVD will be expected to be the next generation coating technology to be applied to the steel industry.
A comprehensive theory of the spin coating technique has been reviewed and the basic principles and parameters controlling the process are clearly highlighted, which include spin speed, spin time, acceleration and fume exhaust. The process generally involves four stages: a dispense stage, substrate acceleration stage, a stage of substrate spinning at a constant rate and fluid viscous forces dominate fluid thinning behaviour and a stage of substrate spinning at a constant rate and solvent evaporation dominates the coating thinning behaviour. The study also considered some common thin film defects associated with this technique, which include comet, striation, chucks marks environmental sensitivity and edge effect and possible remedies.
In this computational study of optical fiber manufacturing, WOW (wet-on-wet) double coating process on freshly drawn glass fiber has been numerical modelled and simulated using a simplified geometry of typical optical fiber coating apparatus. The numerical domain includes primary and secondary coating dies along with secondary coating cup and the interface between primary and secondary coating liquids are investigated using level set method. Coating liquid viscosity is an important parameter and its dependence on temperature is also considered. Since there would be possibility for pressure and temperature of primary coating liquid to be increased substantially at high fiber drawing speed, the effects of increased pressure and temperature of primary coating liquid are examined on flow patterns of coating liquids in secondary coating cup. In case that both pressure and temperature of primary coating liquid are high enough, liquid interface becomes noticeably unstable and this flow instability could adversely affect the uniform coatings and final quality of produced optical fiber.
The perovskite solar cell is a next-generation solar cell that replaces the existing silicon solar cell. It is a solar cell device using an organic-inorganic hybrid material having a perovskite structure as a photoactive layer. It has advantages for the process and has shown rapid efficiency improvement over the past decade. In the process of commercialization of such perovskite solar cells, research and development for a large-area coating method should be carried out. As one of the large-area perovskite solar cell large-area coating methods, the slot-die coating method was studied. By using a meniscus to pass over the substrate and coating the solution, the 3D printer was equipped with a meniscus so that it could be coated. Variables that act during coating include bed temperature, coating speed, N2 blowing interval, N2 blowing height, N2 blowing intensity, etc. By controlling these, the perovskite absorption layer was manufactured and the coating conditions for manufacturing large-area devices were optimized.
The present investigation on optical fiber mass manufacturing features the computational modeling and simulation on a double layer liquid coating process on glass fiber surface. The computational model employs a simplified geometry of typical fiber coating system which consists of primary and secondary coating dies along with secondary coating cup. The viscous dissipation in coating flow is incorporated into the double layer coating process simulations. Heavy temperature dependence of coating liquid viscosity is also considered in the model. The computational results found that the effects of viscous dissipation on both primary and secondary coating layer thicknesses are highly significant at higher drawing speed. Several important coating process parameters such as supply temperature and pressure of primary and secondary coating liquids are investigated and discussed in order to appreciate how those parameters affect the double layer coating layer thickness on fast moving glass fiber.
This study investigates the preparation of anti-reflective (AR) coating film to improve the efficiency of solar cell. The AR coating film was successfully obtained by dip-coating with AR coatings prepared by sol-gel method. Fluoroalkylsilane was additionally introduced into the coatings to give the self-cleaning effect of AR coating film. We performed the abrasion test, pencil scratch hardness test and cross-cut test to identify the mechanical strength of AR coating film. As the results, the transmittance of AR coating films with 9.07, 18.13 and 27.20 of IPA/MTMS molar ratios were 93.1, 93.6 and 95.3%, respectively. The water contact angle and transmittance of AR coating film increased by the introduction of hydrophobicity. The prepared AR coating film shows the high level of abrasion, hardness and adhesion. The IPA/MTMS molar ratio of 27.20 and the withdrawing speed range of 0.20 ~ 0.28cm/sec are the optimal coating condition in terms of the transmittance and mechanical strength of AR coating film.
