A method for coating rice with a novel substance, SHC [soybean hydrolysate with Cyclo Histidine-Proline (CHP)], was developed to produce functional rice for food production. The dip coating and spray coating method was tested to reduce the loss of functionality during the manufacturing of enriched rice. The dip coating method showed a very low absorption rate ($0.079min^{-1}$) of the functional substance compared to control ($0.150min^{-1}$), while the spray-coating method with protective coating materials [a methyl cellulose solution (l%, w/v) containing 5% (w/v) of the SHC] showed relatively adequate absorption characteristics. A light yellowish stain was observed in the rice samples processed by the spray-coating method (b value; surface1 0.69, flour 4.91) compared to raw rice (b value; surface 9.67, flour 4.86). The microscopic appearance of whole kernels and longitudinal sections revealed that cracks formed in all rice samples, regardless of the coating method. In conclusion, spray coating is a potential method for producing SHC-fortified rice with excellent physical characteristics.
Based on the principle of complementary energy, an analytical method is developed which focuses on the end effects for determining thermal stress distributions in a three-layered beam. This method gives the stress distributions which completely satisfy the stress-free boundary conditions. A numerical example is given in order to verify this method. The results show that the present analytical solutions have the values of stress in excellent agreement with the solutions derived by other investigators. Using this method, the effects of the thickness of bond coat on the thermal stresses of a typical sprayed thermal barrier coating, which consists of IN738LC substrate, MCrAIY bond coat and ZrO$_2$-8wt%Y$_2$O$_3$top coat, were investigated.

The paper presents the method and apparatus for conformal photoresist spray coating on the 3D structured substrate. The system consists of a high-temperature-rotational chuck, ultrasonic spray nozzle module, angle control module and nozzle moving module. The coating uniformity is acquired by controlling the moving speed of the ultrasonic spray nozzle across the substrate which is rotated constantly. To coat the photoresist conformally the spray angle of the nozzle and the temperature of the substrate are controlled during spray coating. The rotational chuck can be heated up by hot air or $N_2$. The photoresist (AZ1512) has been coated on the 3D structured wafer by spray coating system and the characteristics have been evaluated.
DLC (diamond liked carbon) coating of the tungsten carbide (WC) alloy core surface for molding a glass aspheric lens improves the quality of glass lens and the molding core and is characterized by high hardness, high elasticity, abrasion resistance and chemical stability. In this study, the effect of DLC coating of a thin film by means of the filtered AIP (arc ion plating) technique was examined on Ra and shape of the coated surface. Roughness before and after DLC coating was measured and the result showed that the roughness was improved after coating as compared to before coating. It was observed that DLC coating of the WC alloy core surface for molding had an effect on improving the roughness and shape of the core surface. It is considered that this will have an effect on improving abrasion resistance and the service life of the core surface.

Solution processed conjugated molecules enable to manufacture various electronic devices by unconventional and cost effective patterning methods as screen or gravure printing. Spin-coating is the most popularly used method to form conjugated polymeric film for various electronic devices. The coating method has certain disadvantages such as a large amount of unwanted wastes, difficulty forming a film with a large area, and impossible to apply roll-to-roll manufacturing. We present here a promising alternative coating method, bar-coating for conjugated polymer film and OLED with the bar coated light emitting layer. In this papers, we show atomic force microscope images of spin- and bar-coated Poly[(9,9-di-n-octylfluorenyl-2,7-diyl)-alt-(benzo[2,1,3]thiadiazol-4,8-diyl)] (F8BT) films on substrate. The bar-coated film showed a slight lower RMS roughness (1.058 [nm]) than spin-coated film (1.767 [nm]). It means the bar-coating is suitable method to form light emitting layers in OLEDs. By using bar-coating process, an OLED obtained with 4.7 [cd/A] in maximum current efficiency.
Introduction: In Oriental medicine, the status of tongue is the important indicator to diagnose one's health, because it represents physiological and clinicopathological changes of inner parts of the body. The method of tongue diagnosis is not only convenient but also non-invasive, so tongue diagnosis is most widely used in Oriental medicine. By the way, since tongue diagnosis is affected by examination circumstances a lot, its performance depends on a light source, degrees of an angle, a medical doctor's condition etc. Therefore, it is not easy to make an objective and standardized tongue diagnosis. In order to solve this problem, in this study, we tried to design a discriminant function for thick and thin coating with color vectors of preprocessed image. Method: 52 subjects, who were diagnosed as white-coated tongue, were involved. Among them, 45 subjects diagnosed as thin coating and 7 subjects diagnosed as thick coating by oriental medical doctors, and then their tongue images were obtained from a digital tongue diagnosis system. Using those acquired tongue images, we implemented two steps: Preprocessing and image analyzing. The preprocessing part of this method includes histogram equalization and histogram stretching at each color component, especially, intensity and saturation. It makes the difference between tongue substance and tongue coating was more visible, so that we can separate tongue coating easily. Next part, we analyzed the characteristic of color values and found the threshold to divide tongue area into coating area. Then, from tongue coating image, it is possible to extract the variables that were important to classify thick and thin coating. Result : By statistical analysis, two significant vectors, associated with G, were found, which were able to describe the difference between thick and thin coating very well. Using these two variables, we designed the discriminant function for coating classification and examined its performance. As a result, the overall accuracy of thick and thin coating classification was 92.3%. Discussion : From the result, we can expect that the discriminant function is applicable to other coatings in a similar way. Also, it can be used to make an objective and standardized diagnosis.

The effect of Particle size of coating Powder and coating temperature on the Properties of coating layer was studied by calorizing(or aluminizing). The surface properties of coating layer were fully characterized, using SEM and EDXS. Coating powders were separated according to the particle size by 3 steps and the coating temperature was varied from $950^{\circ}C$ to $980^{\circ}C$. Calorizing with pack cementation method carried under Ar atmosphere for 5 hrs. Results show that the thickness and Al content of coating layer increased as the size of coating powder decreased and coating temperature increased. And pores formed on the coating layer reduced and homogeneity of coating layer increased with smaller particle size of coating powder.
In this computational study of optical fiber manufacturing, WOW (wet-on-wet) double coating process on freshly drawn glass fiber has been numerical modelled and simulated using a simplified geometry of typical optical fiber coating apparatus. The numerical domain includes primary and secondary coating dies along with secondary coating cup and the interface between primary and secondary coating liquids are investigated using level set method. Coating liquid viscosity is an important parameter and its dependence on temperature is also considered. Since there would be possibility for pressure and temperature of primary coating liquid to be increased substantially at high fiber drawing speed, the effects of increased pressure and temperature of primary coating liquid are examined on flow patterns of coating liquids in secondary coating cup. In case that both pressure and temperature of primary coating liquid are high enough, liquid interface becomes noticeably unstable and this flow instability could adversely affect the uniform coatings and final quality of produced optical fiber.

The quantitative analysis of SB latex contents in coating color and coated paper was investigated with FT/Raman spectroscopy. From the measured FT/IR and FT/Ramon spectra, the peaks of coating color were compared with those of each compoents . Calibration curves were obtained by the area of latex peaks and PLS method of QuantIR program. The relation of predicted values in PLS method and actual values in coating mixtures and coating layer was examined. The components of coating layer in coated paper were investigated by EDS , X-mapping and SEM, The contents of latex in z-direction were calculated in the coating layer of unknown coated paper. The latex concentration measurements of Top layer and Pre layer in double coated paper show that each layer has different value. In single coated paper, it is clear that the latex concentration is highest at the surface and decreases with an increase of depth. From those results it is indicated that the latex migrates to the coated surface. The result of this study may be applied to the binder migration study and the quality control in paper mill.
The pupose of this study is to improve the mechanical properies and to evaluate the residual stresses of flame-sprayed Alumina ceramic coating layer. The first work in this study is to investigate the effects of strengthening heat treatments on the mechanical properties of coating layer. Strengthening heat treatments for sprayed specimens were carried out in vaccum furnace. The mechanical properties such as microhardness, thermal shock resistance, adhesive strength and erosion resistance were tested for the sprayed specimens after strengthening heat treatments. And it was clear that the mechanical properties of coating layer were much improved by strengthening heat treatments. The second work in this study is to evalute the residual stresses in coating lsyer by numerical analysis. FDM and FEM were used to analyze temperature distribution and residul stresses in coating layer. It was proved that are tensile stresses in coating layer and that residual stresses can be controlled by the appropriate selection of the spraying parameters such as preheat temperature, coating thickness and bond coat thickness.
