$CO_2$ 초임계 사이클을 위한 일체형 스크롤 팽창기-압축기 성능해석 (Performance Analysis of Scroll Expander-Compressor Unit for $CO_2$ Transcritical Cycles)

  • In a two-stage compression $CO_2$ transcritical cycle, application of a scroll expander-compressor unit has been considered in order to improve the cycle COP. For both expander and 1st stage compressor, scroll wrap profile which was originally designed for a R410A air-conditioning cycle mechanism was used with minor modifications: wrap height and involute end angle were adjusted for required displacement volume and built-in volume ratio. For pressure condition of 10 Mpa/3.5 MPa and expander inlet temperature of $35^{\circ}C$, 25% improvement in COP was obtained by using expander-compressor unit. As evaporator pressure increased, COP improvement was lowered mainly due to decreasing compressor peformance.

  • The Present work focuses on application of Organic Rankine Cycle - Waste heat Recovery System (ORC-WHRS) for marine diesel engine. ORC and its combined cycle with the engine were simulated and its performance was estimated theoretically under the various engine operation conditions and cooling water conditions. The working fluid, R245fa, was selected for the consideration of the heat source temperature, system efficiency and safety issues. According to the thermodynamic analysis, ~13.1% of system efficiency of the cycle was performed and it is about 4% of the mechanical power output of the considering Marine Diesel Engine. Also, addition of evaporator and pre-heater were studied to maximize output power of Organic Rankine Cycle as a waste heat recovery system of the marine diesel engine.

  • In order to evaluate the performance of carbon dioxide cycle, a simulation model was developed to predict the steady state performance of $CO_2$ transcritical cycle. The expansion process is treated as an isenthalpic throttling process or isentropic expansion process. The mathematical model is based entirely on the basic energy conservation law and thermodynamic and transport properties of $CO_2$. A Parametric study has been conducted in order to investigate the effect of isentropic efficiency of expansion turbine and various operating conditions on the cycle performance. An optimal heat rejection pressure existed for the given evaporating temperature and outlet temperature of gas cooler.

  • The utilization of acetate by Dunaliella tertiolecta was examined, and the detections and assays of the enzymes of the tricarboxylic acid cycle and the glyoxylate pathway were described. Acetate could not be utilized as a sole carbon source for the growth. The carboxyl carbon of acetate was incorporated more rapidly into CO2 than the methyl carbon. It was identified that malate, succinate, citrate and etc., were accumulated whne [U-14C] acetate was supplied to the cell free homogenate. The following enzyme activities were measured; acetothiokinase, isocitrate dehydrogenase, fumarase, malate dehydrogenase and aconitase. Though isocitratase, malate synthetase, succinate dehydrogenase and oxoglutarate dehydrogenase could not be detected, 14C from succinate was easily contributed to CO2 and cell component. The evidence suggested that the glyoxylate pathway was not operative and showed that the TCA cycle was the all important pathway in the oxidation of acetate to CO2 in Dunaliella.

An Experimental Study on the Performance of $CO_2$ Air-conditioning Cycle Equipped with an Ejector

  • As an effort to prevent environmental problems caused by ozone depletion and global warming, alternative refrigerants are being developed, and one of the candidates is carbon dioxide. To overcome slightly low efficiency of $CO_2$ refrigeration system, air-conditioning cycle using an ejector was suggested. Ejector compensates throttling loss in an expansion device by reducing compression work. In this study, the ejector refrigeration cycle using $CO_2$ as a refrigerant is investigated to understand the effect of the mixing section diameter and refrigerant charge amount on the performance. If mixing section diameter is too large or too small, either cases show low performance. The optimum refrigerant charge amount which gives the best performance is found for standard operating conditions. The air-conditioning cycle was analyzed for several operating conditions.

지구규모의 탄소 순환 및 물질수지 연구 (Global Carbon Cycle and Budget Study)

  • A global carbon cycle model (GCCM), that incorporates interaction among the terrestrial biosphere, ocean, and atmosphere, was developed to study the carbon cycling aid global carbon budget, especially due to anthropogenic $CO_2$ emission. The model that is based on C, 13C and 14C mass balance, was calibrated with the observed $CO_2$ concentration, $\delta$13C and $\Delta$14C in the atmosphere, Δ14C in the soil, and $\Delta$14C in the ocean. Also, GCCM was constrained by the literature values of oceanic carbon uptake and CO, emissions from deforestation. Inputs (forcing functions in the model) were the C, 13C and 14C as $CO_2$ emissions from fossil fuel use, and 14C injection into the stratosphere by bomb-tests. The simulated annual carbon budget of 1980s due to anthropoRenic $CO_2$ shows that the global sources were 5.43 Gt-C/yr from fossil fuel use and 0.91 Gt-C/yr from deforestation, and the sinks were 3.29 Gt-C/yr in the atmosphere, 0.90 Gt-C/yr in the terrestrial biosphere and 2.15 Gt-C/yr in the ocean. The terrestrial biosphere is currently at zero net exchange with the atmosphere, but carbon is lost cia organic carbon runoff to the ocean. The model could be utilized for a variety of studies in $CO_2$ policy and management, climate modeling, $CO_2$ impacts, and crop models.

Business Cycle Synchronization between the European Union and Korea

  • In the recent 20 years, the capital flows between Korea and European Union have increased and diversified. In particular, the business cycles of two economies have shown similar patterns since the Global Financial Crisis. This study examines both trends and investigates the roles of finance and trade on business cycle co-movements between two economies. The empirical results show that the business cycles can diverge due to either the common shocks or the country-specific shocks. Furthermore, financial integration increases the business cycle co-movements driven by both the country-specific shocks and the common shocks between two economies.

  • The environment has played a key role to improve the living condition and develop the industry. In building industries, we should consider the environment and mitigate the environmental affect. For mitigating the its affect, various areas of building technology have been developed and applied into filed work. In addition, the process in applying into field requires to conduct the assessment of the environmental affect and improve its applied technology. A lot of assessment methods are proposed in evaluate the building condition such as post-occupancy evaluation, life cycle management and life cycle assessment. Among these assessment methods, life cycle assessment is effectively utilized the environmental affect in building life cycle. Therefore, this paper aimed at analyzing the energy consumption and $CO_2$ emission in building life cycle, using the life cycle assessment and application of the example in apartment housing. This study shows that the maintenance and the production of building materials stage shares most of the amount of energy consumption and $CO_2$ emission and therefore plays an important role to planning the building in terms of the life cycle. Second, the other stages brings about a very small amount. It is important to decide the building shape and contents to mitigate the environmental affect in terms of material, volume, the pattern of the energy use and others.

  • As the user demand for power plants becomes various, design objective becomes complicated. To review the system feasibility, system objective and evaluation criteria need to be newly defined. In this study, engineering design procedure of the multi-purpose power plant, such as barge-mounted combined cycle power plant with $CO_2$ capture, was shown as a previous work for the feasibility review of the system alternatives. For the system design, heat and mass balance for each system configuration was firstly performed. Using the thermal analysis results, conceptual design of system alternatives was carried out. And then, preliminary design of the major equipment was done. The engineering calculation results of this study would be used as the evaluation data for system feasibility review.

이산화탄소 사이클에서 열교환기의 형태 변화에 따른 성능특성 비교 (Comparison of Performance Characteristics with Heat Exchanger Type in $CO_2$ Cycle)

  • The theoretical analysis of performance characteristics in a $CO_2$ cycle with the heat exchanger type was carried out. The size and performance of the fin-tube and microchannel heat exchanger were compared with operating conditions. As a result, the performance of the fin-tube gascooler and evaporator were more sensitive to the variation of operating condition compared to that of the microchannel gascooler and evaporator. Beside, the sizes of microchannel gascooler and evaporator could be decreased by 73% and 76%, respectively, compared to those of the fin-tube type gascooler and evaporator with the similar capacity. The COP and reliability of the $CO_2$ system can be increased by using a microchannel heat exchanger.
