  • UBV RI and H$\alpha$ photometry has been performed for the open cluster NGC 6531. A total of 56 bright main sequence (MS) members were selected from their positions in photometric diagrams. We also classified 7 pre-main sequence (PMS) stars and 6 PMS candidates with Ha: emission from H$\alpha$ photometry. We determined a reddening of < E(B - V) >= 0.29 $\pm$ 0.03 and a distance modulus of Vo - Mv = 10.5 for the cluster. From the comparison of our photometric results to theoretical evolution models, we derived a MS turnoff age of 7.5 Myr and a PMS age spread of $\~$4 Myr. The IMF slope $\Gamma$, calculated in the mass range of 0.45 $\le$ log m $\le$ 1.35 is a steep value of $\Gamma$ = -1.8 $\pm$ 0.6.

  • We have conducted UBVI CCD photometry of an intermediate-age open cluster NGC 559 to investigate the effect of dynamical evolution on the stellar distributions in NGC 559. Our photometry allows better estimates of distance and age of the cluster owing to much deeper photometry (V $\le$ 21) than previous ones. It is found that the luminosity function and mass function as well as the spatial stellar distributions are affected by the dynamical evolution. Mass segregation leads to the central concentration of the high mass stars, which results in the flattened mass function inside the half mass radius.

  • UBVI CCD photometry is obtained for the Ruprecht 93 (Ru 93)region. We are unable to confirm the existence of an intermediate-age open cluster in Ru 93 from the spatial distribution of blue stars. On the other hand, we find two young star groups in the observed field: the nearer one (Ru 93 group) comprises the field young stars in the Sgr-Car arm at $d{\approx}2.1$ kpc, while the farther one (WR 37 group) is the young stars around WR 37 at $d{\approx}4.8$ kpc. We derive an abnormal extinction law ($R_V$ = 3.5) in the Ruprecht 93 region.

  • The astrophysical parameters of four unstudied open star cluster candidates; Ivanov 2, 7, 9, and Harvard 9; are estimated for the first time using the PPMXL database. The stellar density distributions and color-magnitude diagrams for each cluster are used to determine the geometrical structure (cluster center, limited radius, core and tidal radii, the distances from the Sun, from the Galactic center and from the Galactic plane). Also, the main photometric parameters (age, distance modulus, color excesses, membership, total mass, relaxation time, luminosity and mass functions) are estimated.

  • We study near-infrared properties of the old open cluster King 11, based on the 2MASS photometric data. We determine the location of the red giant clump(RGC) in the (K, J - K) colo-magnitude diagram and derive the distance modulus of King 11 to be $(m-M)_0$ = $12.50{\pm}0.10$ using the mean K magnitude of RGC. From the red giant branch slope - [Fe/H] relation we obtain the metallicity of this cluster, [Fe/H]=$-0.17{\pm}0.07$. The age and interstellar reddening of this cluster are estimated to be log t = $9.48{\pm}0.05$, E(B-V)=$0.90{\pm}0.03$, by applying Padova isochrone fits to the data.

  • In the region of the open cluster M48 (NGC 2548), time-series BV CCD images were taken for 22 nights from February 28 in 2008 to March 17 in 2011. From this observation, we found 10 new variable stars. They include five eclipsing binaries, an RR Lyrae, two ${\delta}$ Scuti, and two semi-periodic and/or slow irregular type variable stars. We fail to find the member stars of the open cluster among the 10 variable stars.

  • NGC 6716 is an intermediate-age open cluster in Sagittarius. In this paper, we present the new UBV CCD photometry of the stars in the cluster, which is deeper than previous ones. From the color-color diagram and the color-magnitude diagram, we derived a reddening $E_{B- V} = 0.17\pm0.03$ and a distance modulus of the cluster, $(V - Mv)_o = 9.2\pm0.1$. An age of the cluster is estimated as $8\pm10^7 yrs$ from the latest isochrone. Luminosity function and mass function of the cluster are derived. The gradient of the mass function of bright stars is a bit steep, $\Gamma = -1.85\pm0.05$, and there is no distinct bump and dip in the mass function.

  • The $UBVI_{KC}$ CCD photometry was performed in the central region(${\sim}20'{\times}20'$) of the extremely young open cluster IC1805. Member stars were selected in the (B-V)-(U-B) and (V-I)-(B-V) color-color planes. Applying recent stellar evolutionary models, we derived the age, age-spread, and initial mass function(IMF) of the cluster. IC1805 was found to be an extremely young($t_{age}{\sim}1.5Myr$) and has a flat IMF with the slope of ${\Gamma}=-1.0{\pm}0.2$.

  • The biosynthetic gene clusters for bluensomycin and spectinomycin were isolated and characterized from the bluensomycin producer, Streptomyces bluensis ATCC27420 and the spectinomycin producer, Streptomyces spectabilis ATCC27741, respectively. PCR primers were designed specifically to amplify a segment of dTDP-glucose synthase gene based on its conserved sequences of several actinomycete strains. By screening cosmid libraries using amplified PCR fragments, 30-kb and 45-kb DNA fragments were isolated from Streptomyces bluensis and Streptomyces spectabilis, respectively. Sequencing analysis of them revealed that each contains 15 open reading frames (ORFs). Some of these ORFs were turned out to be antibiotic resistance genes (blmA and speN), dTDP-glucose synthase genes (blmD and spcD), and dTDP-D-glucose 4,6-dehydratase genes (blmE and spcE), suggesting that the blm and spec gene clusters are likely involved in the biosynthesis of bluensomycin and spectinomycin, respectively.

  • Due the globalization trends of industry environment, not only fashion companies of the developed countries but also those of NICs and the developing countries are pursuing to globalize their businesses. This study was conducted (i) to identify the characteristics of international marketing mix of Korean fashion companies operating in oversea fashion markets and (ii) to analyze the performance of Korean fashion companies related to international marketing mix. The data were collected from inter-Korean fashion enterprises. A questionnaire was distributed to a person in charge of international division/international trade division who doing business in domestic market and a person in charge of a local subsidiary in oversea market. The methods of analysis used in this study were factor analysis, cluster analysis, and one-way ANOVA. The results of this study are as follows: First, according to factor analysis and cluser analysis, Korean fashion companies were classified in four (4) clusters. The fashion companies in Cluster I put their priority on price. The companies in Cluster II are traditional fashion companies which have relatively low power of product and price. The companies in Cluster III put their priority on product, and the companies in Cluster IV put their priority on local market. Second, according to ANOVA, a growth rate of sales make significant difference among 4 clusters and Clusters II and III were comparatively high in performance.
