The purpose of this study was to investigate the differences of clothing majors and non-majors in clothing knowledge and consumption behavior. Subjective and objective knowledge were compared and factors of clothing consumption behavior were analyzed across the two groups. The subjects of this study were female student who went to University in Seoul. Data from 150 college female students were analyzed using SPSS. Results indicated that clothing majors had significantly higher level of clothing knowledge. The differences were smaller for subjective knowledge levels than objective knowledge levels. Clothing majors tended to reform their clothes and coordinate their clothing items better than non-majors. They considered styles more importantly than brands but have some level of conformity. Among clothing consumption behavior factors, reform ability and coordination ability significantly affected clothing knowledge.
The purpose of this study is 1) to compare the employment status and wage level of "Clothing and Fashion" major (CF major) graduates with those from other majors and 2) to examine factors affecting the employment status and wage level of CF major university graduates. The data were pooled from the 2009-2012 Graduates Occupational Mobility Survey Data, conducted by Korea Employment Information Service. First, when graduates of CF major were compared with other majors in the same academic area-natural science and arts-, the rate of employment was higher for CF majors than that of other majors; on the other hand, there is no difference in the wage levels between those with graduates in CF majors and those with other majors. Second, we examined factors affecting CF major graduates' employment and wage level based on graduates' individual factors, university factor, and job preparation factors. Employment status of graduates in CF major was predicted by respondent's gender and university type, and work experience. The wage level of CF major graduates was significantly predicted by individual factors (e.g., gender and age, university factors (e.g., university type, university program, location), and job preparation factors (e.g., certificates, overseas experience of foreign language training, English test scores). The results of this study would provide a guide to direct university educational program in order to assess the current capabilities in the field of clothing and fashion.

For 4 reasons of external appearances, students from all majors frequently said that they should adjust their external appearance for employment. For the opinion about what is considered the most in the purchase of clothing, most of the students considered about the design of the cloth. For the opinion about influences on the purchase of clothing, major of the students were influenced by their friend or colleague. on the other hand, the students from artistic talent and physical education mentioned other opinion that it depends that it depends on situation and own intention is most important. Second, for the question about clothing behavior, with regard to monthly average shopping control expense, the students from all majors mentioned the amount less than KRW 50,000. For the opinion about the number of shopping, most student mentioned once a season. For the opinion about the store to purchase dress, most students mentioned the use of large shopping mall but the students from business administration and economy mentioned the use of discount store. Third, for the question about preferred style and preferred brand, with regard to the opinion about usual style, the students from all majors have worn casual style. For the opinion about the preferred style, most students mentioned casual style. For the opinion about man's accessory wearing, the students from all majors mentioned that it is good and for the opinion about coordination item, most students mentioned bag.
The purpose of this study was to examine understanding consumers' purchasing intention toward sustainable apparel regarding buying experience, majors, and age. A random sample of 172 undergraduate students completed a questionnaire that contained measures of demographic information, past sustainable buying experiences, and purchasing intentions toward sustainable apparel. Based on literature review, three research questions were proposed. For data analysis, descriptive statistics and t-test were used. Based on these results, this research provided acceptable information based upon the consumer's purchasing intentions toward sustainable apparel, after being placed into groups of buyers and non-buyers. Buyers had more willing to purchase sustainable apparel than non-buyers. Also the results revealed that fashion majors hold a higher level of significance than non-fashion majors and their intentions to purchase sustainable apparel. Finally, older students (over 21 years old) have more purchasing intentions toward sustainable apparel than younger students (under 21 years old). Based on these results, some implications for educators and marketers would be suggested.
Universities in Korea are already saturated with fashion-related majors, and graduates are having difficulties getting jobs. For this reason, Korean universities should educate students with a competitive curriculum. The purpose of this study was to analyze and compare the curricula of fashion-related majors at universities in Korea and the United States (U.S.) in order to help develop fashion-related curricula at the universities in Korea. The curricula of the 52 majors in 47 Korean universities and the 62 majors in 62 U.S. universities were analyzed. Data was analyzed using MS Excel 2010 and R 3.0.1.; the statistical significance was determined at ${\alpha}$=0.05. There were five main differences between fashion-related majors in Korean universities and those in the U.S. universities: 1) The subjects of the U.S. were more diverse and more business-oriented than those of Korea, but the universities of Korea had more design subjects. 2) The U.S. more often utilized computer technology, than Korea, in the field of fashion design. 3) The U.S. offered more theoretical courses, than Korea, in the field of fashion materials. 4) In the clothing construction field, the U.S. offered more apparel design and technical design than Korea. 5) The U.S. mainly educated on retailing and buying subjects while Korea mainly educated on fashion marketing subjects within the fashion business field.
Since the mid 2000s, a large number of Chinese students have come to Korea to study. This study investigates the research trends of Chinese students studying in the fashion field in Korea. For this study, a total of 235 graduate degree theses on fashion written by Chinese students in Korea (from 1992 to 2014) were collected through the RISS website. Various keywords were used to find the theses, including fashion, clothing and costume. Factors used in the analysis of these theses were the number of theses per year, major of the student, research trend of specific areas and research target area. The results are as follows: Most of the theses were written by Fashion/Clothing majors (141 theses/60% of the total), while other majors - such as Business Administration, International Trade, Economics, Journalism/Broadcasting, and Movie Entertainment - made up the rest (94/40%). The theses researched in the study were focused on a specific field in fashion. Fashion Marketing/Socio-Psychology of Clothing was the most popular field (113/48.1%), and Fashion Design/Aesthetics came in second (87/37.0%). Other topics, such as Costume History, Clothing Construction/Textile Science, Costume Culture, followed. Chinese student's research target area was very limited, with Chinese Study being the most popular area, and Korean and Chinese Comparative Study coming in second.
This study focuses on the middle school textbook Technology Home Economics 2, revised in 2009, and aims to analyze the clothing-related contents within the Technology and Home Economics curriculum. All Korean elementary, middle and high school curricula have evolved through a number of changes and repeated revisions from their first versions, and reached their current seventh revised edition in 2009. Over this process, subjects connected to home economics have formed the following structure: Practical Courses in elementary school (5thand6thgrade)and Technology and Home Economics in middle and high school. The curriculum contents of the subjects Technology and Home Economics are divided into Development and Family, Clothing, Dietary Life, Habitation, Home Management and Consumption. Each curriculum teaches the students about its respective contents, e.g. Clothing brings the students in contact with clothing-related matters. Curricula and education methods help students find their own interests during middle and high school. Their school studies determine what majors they are seeking to choose in college and university. There are diverse university programs in Korea that are related to clothing. The above-mentioned textbook deals with clothing in the chapter Eco-friendly Clothing and Mending Habits. The results of this analysis shall help the development of the constantly changing textbook curricula, and furthermore become a reference to middle and high school students who aspire a practical and creative clothing education.

The purposes of the study were to examine basic job requirements and primary skills of sales team and supporting team in global sourcing companies, to investigate educational programs provided by the companies or other educational institutions, and to examine courses to be newly established in the curriculum of clothing and textile majors. The results of the study found that the ability to use English and communication skills were important to perform their tasks (sales and supporting teams). The results revealed that fabric and textile, sewing, and apparel production process were the most frequently taken educational programs provided by global sourcing companies and English classes were the most frequently taken educational programs in the other educational institutions. The results also found that the clothing and textile curriculum need to add classes that help sales and supporting teams perform global sourcing tasks, such as fashion practical English, fabric and textile, apparel production processes, textile and apparel trades, fiber and fabric testing, and presentation skills. The study suggested educational directions for developing curriculum contents of clothing and textiles and cultivating professionals in the global sourcing industries.
This study was aimed to alter slacks pattern of ready-to-wear clothing appropriate for the lower body types of male university students of sports majors. The subjects used for this study were 151 male sports majors between $18{\sim}27$ years of age. Characteristics of the respondents were ascertained by means of questionnaires and an evaluation of a total of 36 lower body features. The characteristics of the lower body were depended on sport activities. In particular, bodybuilding students demonstrated a somatotype with an increased circumference, depth, and width of the thigh and lower body. The somatotypes were classified into 3 types by means of a cluster analysis employing 5 factors. The bodybuilding was selected for alter slacks pattern because of the grand variation of lower body types. A lining evaluation of slacks pattern was made for the male sports collegians in bodybuilding-major. The results of evaluation shows that the research pattern was better than a ready-made slacks pattern. Specially the hip and thigh parts were more comfortable to sports major students.
In women's clothing the shoulders are distorted and exaggerated. Consequently, the wearers' bodies are transformed and interpreted according to modern standards. We therefore refer to this aspect of women's clothing as the power shoulder. This study aims to analyze the differences in sensibility images on variations in the shoulder shape of power shoulder jackets. Nine samples were examined that involved combinations of three variations of the shoulder height and three variations of the shoulder width. The data was evaluated by 123 fashion design majors. Four factors were selected: attractiveness, personality, activity, and self-respect. Among these factors, attractiveness is the most important. The study results indicated that changes in shoulder height acted as a major effect that had an independent influence on all four factors. In contrast, changes in shoulder width acted as a major effect that had an independent influence on attractiveness, personality, and activity but not on self-respect. It also had an influence on the interaction effect of attractiveness, personality, activity, and self-respect. We anticipate that this study will help individual customers select clothing that is suitable for their preference and body shape because it is now possible for them to estimate images of power shoulder jackets.
