Peripheral Blood Flow Velocity and Peripheral Pulse Wave Velocity Measured Using a Clip-type Pulsimeter Equipped with a Permanent Magnet and a Hall Device

  • We measured radial arterial pulse signals using a prototype of a clip-type pulsimeter equipped with a permanent magnet and a Hall device, which produced signals through a voltage-detecting circuit. The systolic peak time and the reflective peak time for a temporally pulsed signal were analyzed for an arbitrary pulse wave at one position of a small permanent magnet. The measured value of the peripheral pulse wave velocity was about 1.25-1.52 m/s, demonstrating the accuracy of this new method. To measure the peripheral blood flow velocity, we simultaneously connected the radial artery pulsimeter to a photoplethysmography meter. The average value of the peripheral blood flow velocity was about 0.27-0.50 m/s.

  • The magnetic field variation by the permanent magnet fluctuation positioned on a "Chwan" of wrist according to the movement of radial artery was generated. The clip-type pulsimeter equipped with a Hall device sensing magnetic field pulse movement analyzed the characteristics of pulse wave as output signals. The magnetic field curve and pulse waveform simulated by the finite element method were compared and analyzed with each other. Also, the variation of magnetic field distribution one permanent magnet investigated by the fabrication of clip-type pulsimeter simulator. This result suggests that the clip-type pulsimeter can be used the reproducible and efficacious oriental diagnostic medical instrument.

  • The clip-type pulsimeter equipped with a Hall sensor has a permanent magnet attached in the "Chwan" position to the center of a radial artery. The clip-type pulsimeter is composed of a hardware system measuring voltage signals. These electrical bio-signals display pulse rate, non-invasive blood pressure, respiratory rate, pulse wave velocity (PWV), and spatial pulse wave velocity (SPWV) simultaneously measured by using the radial artery pulsimeter, the electrocardiograph (ECG), and the photoplethysmograph (PPG). The findings of this research may be useful for developing a oriental-western biomedical signal storage device, that is, the new and fusion patient monitor, for a U-health-care system.

  • We measured signals at the "Guan" region of a radially arterial pulse using the prototype of a clamping pulsimeter equipped with a Hall effect device, which is passed signals through the voltage detecting hard ware system. The important four different measuring times of the period, systolic, reflective, and notch peaks for a temporally pulse signal are obtained and compared each other from the analysis for an arbitrary pulse wave of one position of small size permanent magnet. It is possible to measure the reproducible pulse rate and blood pressure by using the cuffless clip type pulsimeter without an unpleasant oppressive feeling due to the use of pressurization.

  • The aims of this study are to investigate a logisitic regression equation of the vacuous pulse and the replete pulse for efficacy evaluation of clip-type pulsimeter by using magnetic Hall device. To evaluate the efficacy of clip-type pulsimeter by using magnetic Hall device as sensing the minute movement of a radial artery, one research clinical trial have been performed. The number of subject was 120, the clinical data of patients did treated with a normal statistical method. The systolic peak amplitude, the reflective peak amplitude and time, and the notch peak amplitude and time are analyzed major efficacy parameters to discern the vacuous pulse and the replete pulse. The equations included of five parameters such as systolic peak amplitude, the reflective peak amplitude and time, and the notch peak amplitude and notch amplitude time for determination of the vacuous pulse and the replete pulse were deducted by statistical logistic regression method. It suggests that the logistic regression equations are possible to develop the oriental algorithm for pulse diagnosis.

  • Clip-type pulsimeter equipped with Hall device and a minute permanent magnet as sensing the minute movement of a radial artery was developed. The clinical data of the 120 number of subject acquisited through the clip-type pulsimeter did treated with a typical statistical logistic regression analysis. The prediction algorithm for the replete pulse and vacuous pulse was studied. The reflective peak time and the notch peak time were major parameters to discern the replete pulse and vacuous pulse. The discrimination rate was 65%. It suggests that the logistic regression equations are possible to use the diagnosis index to predict and discern the oriental pulse wave.

  • The pulse waveforms of a carotid artery in the neck and a radial artery in the hand wrist were individually measured by using clip-type pulsimeter equipped with a permanent and Hall device. The pulse transit time and the pulse wave velocity obtained through comparison of two pulse waveforms were analyzed each other. A value of the pulse wave velocity was about 8.5 m/s similar to one measured by a conservative method. This result suggests that the clip-type pulsimeter as the reproducible and reliable one oriental diagnostic medical device can be predicted to any atherosclerosis state in the cardiac circulatory system.

  • This research suggested that the extraction of respiratory rate could be made possible by using frequency analysis in the data process for clip-type pulsimeter equipped with permanent magnet and Hall sensor. The pulse analysis included of cardiac motion information depending on variation of pulse waveforms is investigated by means of Fast Fourier Transformation (FFT). The peaks of FFT spectrums measured at 15, 20, 30, 40, and 50 tempos are coincided to each respiratory rate having 0.125 Hz, 0.16 Hz, 0.25 Hz, 0.33 Hz, and 0.41 Hz, respectively. The FFT spectrum using algorithm for the extraction of respiratory rate showed the best pulse waves measured during 300 s. Based upon these results, the clip-type pulsimeter could extract the effective respiratory rate reflecting physical effects.

  • Two concurrent signals of the pulse wave measured from both hands' radial artery in un-pressurization condition using the prototype model of two clip-type pulsimeters with a permanent magnet and Hall device are investigated. The phase differences of two pulse waves from 22 subjects have some distinct points according to the handedness. Thus, the propagation of the pulse wave calculated from phase difference is both fast and slow to each other. It is confirmed that this phenomenon comes from the difference of blood vessel hardness between right- and left-hand of each subject rather than a quantity of muscle.
