Objectives: This study was conducted to test the critical thinking tendency, clinical practice satisfaction, and clinical performance, and analyze the factors impacting clinical practice satisfaction and clinical performance of dental hygiene students. Methods: The study conducted a written survey during the period between 30 July ~20 August 2019, among 3rd and 4th year dental hygiene students from Seoul, Gyung-gi region, who had taken clinical practice courses. Using SPSS 22.0 program (IBM SPSS statistics, New York, USA), the study analyzed the final 174 cases. Results: Dental hygiene students scored 3.33±0.43, 3.48±0.83, and 3.30±0.58 for critical thinking, clinical practice satisfaction, and clinical performance, respectively. The clinical thinking score was higher when their study performance was good (p<0.001), clinical practice satisfaction was higher when their major satisfaction was satisfactory (p<0.001), higher when their relationship with their clinical practice partner was good, and the clinical performance was better when the students' major satisfaction was good (p<0.001). The study performance yielded better results when their study achievement was better (p<0.05). Clinical practice satisfaction (r=0.156) and clinical performance (r=0.393) showed a positive correlation with critical thinking, and clinical performance had a positive correlation with clinical practice satisfaction. The impact factor for clinical practice satisfaction appeared to be clinical performance (p<0.05) and major satisfaction (p<0.001), and the factors impacting the clinical performance were among the sub-causes of critical thinking (p<0.05), intellectual fairness (p<0.05), watchfulness (p<0.05), clinical practice satisfaction (p<0.05), and major satisfaction (p<0.01). Conclusions: Results of the study showed that for dental hygiene students, critical thinking, clinical practice satisfaction, clinical performance, and major satisfaction were the impact factors affecting the students' clinical performance. Therefore, the study recommends that development of educational programs and operation of a field-based curriculum is necessary to improve critical thinking, clinical practice satisfaction, and major satisfaction.
The purpose of this study were to examine clinical dietetic performance level and to determine factors affecting clinical dietetic performance level. The survery was carried out for the 33 general hospitals over 400 beds in Seoul We established 13 factors which amy affect clinical dietetic performance level and investigated the relationship between these factors and clinical dietetic performance level. The average score of performance and perception of importance levels of clinical dietetic practices were 46.0${\pm}$6.9 and 73.2${\pm}$4.8 respectively. None of the demographic variables were significantly correlated to clinical dietetic performance level. Clinical dietetic performance level depended upon whether dietetic department had a division or not for clinical dietetic activities.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to determine relationships between academic achievement, clinical competence, and confidence in the clinical performance of nursing students, and to identify factors that influence them. Methods: This was a descriptive correlation study. Data were collected from 118 nursing students at a nursing college in Seoul. One-way variance analysis, Pearson's correlation coefficient, and multiple linear regression analysis were used to examine relationships between academic achievement, clinical competence, and confidence in clinical performance. Results: Clinical competence was related to academic achievement in students' previous semester and to students' academic scores in a fundamental of nursing course. Clinical competence showed a weak positive correlation with academic achievement in students' previous semester and academic scores in a fundamental of nursing course in both evaluations by the professor and students' self-evaluations. However, confidence in clinical performance had no significant correlation with academic achievement. The factor affecting the clinical competence was academic scores in a fundamental of nursing course, and factors affecting confidence in clinical performance were health status, personality, major suitability, and class satisfaction in a fundamental of nursing skills course. Conclusion: These findings indicate that students with high academic achievement have better clinical performance, but confidence in clinical performance is not related to academic achievement.
The aim of this study is to provide the background of developing guides to clinical performance and basic clinical skills and to introduce how to teach and learn using the guide. The students' performance problems presented in an objective clinical skills examination were disease-centered tertiary hospital clinical care, incomplete performance, doing by rote, and an exam-oriented learning attitude. The problems were caused by a tertiary hospital-based educational environment as well as schools and faculty who are unfamiliar with the concept of patient-centered care. The purpose of the guide to clinical performance and basic clinical skills is to overcome these problems and address the causes. The guides show a clinical presentation approach to primary care; clinical care integrated with knowledge, skills, and attitude; a schematic approach; and a patient-centered attitude. To achieve these goals, a strategy to change the educational culture is important. Curricular reform, faculty development, and improving educational facilities and environments are suggested.
This study was conducted to establish finance performance evaluation model for physicians in each clinical department, by using factors which determines financial outcome(performance) in each clinical department The ultimate aim of study is to develop effective performance-based pay system for physicians. The system, by motivating physicians, should increase their productivity. To do so, it is critical to establish finance performance evaluation model to achieve final goal of this study. 232 private hospitals were chosen from 693 hospitals which were subject to hospital survey by the Korea Institute of Health Services Management and their revenue and expense-related data during 1997 were collected. By adopting multiple regression method, the study shows that the evaluation model for each clinical department was statistically significant. The study suggest the effective performance-based pay system based on financial performance of each clinical department. The pay system includes the level of compensation, the way of how to allocate profits to each department, and criteria whether the compensation should provide or not. In conclusion, the study has following implications. First, the study suggest finance performance evaluation model for each clinical department Second, the study suggest guidelines and plans to establish qualitative measure of financial performance in each clinical department. Third, the study suggest that adopting performance-based pay for physicians could be impetus to achieve organizational goal by motivating them with fair compensation.
Objectives : This study applied the research model of Bontis (1998), which has been used to investigate everything from business corporations to hospitals in Korea, examined its generalizability and attempted to verify which factors of the intellectual capital affects organizational performance, represented by indicators for the clinical and financial performance of hospitals. Methods : Primary data for the study were collected from 91 general hospitals through self-administered questionnaires, and secondary data on clinical and financial performance of hospitals were collected form existing statistics. Collected data were analyzed with SPSS 11.5 (ver.) and AMOS 18.0 (ver.). Results : It was found that only human capital and customer capital had indirect effects on hospital performance. It was also revealed that structural capital had a direct effect on clinical performance, and an indirect effect on financial performance. Conclusions : This result means that there is a need to individually consider both the clinical performance and financial performance when measuring the organizational performance of a hospital, and it also shows that positive improvement in the clinical performance can contribute to the improvement of the financial performance through this process.
The purpose of this study is to investigate the relationship between clinical judgment and nursing performance based on myocardial infarction simulation applied to nursing students. Method: 39 fourth grade nursing students participated in this explanatory study with sampling of accommodations. The Lasater Clinical Judgment Rubric has been used in self-reported clinical trials and satisfaction with judging practices. Data were analyzed by descriptive statistics, t-test and Pearson's correlation coefficient using SPSS WIN 19. Results: Scenarios with myocardial infarction were scored by self-reported clinical judgment. Total mean score of clinical judgment and total mean value of clinical judgment is 4.17 ± 0.80. Correlation Between Variables After Simulation Practice is highly significant for providing positive clinical judgment and satisfaction with nursing performance. Conclusion: The simulation-based practice associated with adult nursing in myocardial infarction was useful for clinical judgment and nursing performance satisfaction, which improved the core basic skills of nursing students.
This study attempts to predict nurses'clinical performance from entrance examination of university and college achievements after graduation. This is based upon a survey study, 49 nurses in Yon Sei Medical Center after graduation of college of nursing. Correlation of college achievements, clinical performance and variables of nurses'clinical performance are produced using Pearson's Product moment correlation coefficient significance of correlation tested by T- test. The result of the study were as follows; 1. Clinical performance of the college achievements is the best efficient variables in predicting the nurses'clinical performance after graduation and next theory scholastic total achievements and entrance examination the last. 2. There are significant correlation among nurses'clinical performance rating variables as nursing ethics, nursing skills, achievements, attitude, the state of health.
The purpose of this study was to analyze the importance-performance of clinical nutrition management in convalescent hospitals. The research was carried out based on questionnaires administered from March to April, 2015 to 73 dietitians at 40 convalescent hospitals in the Gyeongnam area. There was a statistically significant difference between the mean scores for importance (4.01/5.00) and performance (2.95/5.00) of clinical nutrition management. The importance and performance grid analysis showed that participation in a nutritional management committee, administration of patients using a cooperation program among hospital departments, cooperation with a medical team on patient's nutrition status, nutrition initial assessment, nutrition care process for patients showing malnutrition, nutrition care process for tube feeding patients, management of a therapeutic diet, meal management using dietary slip instructions including a therapeutic diet, and explication of a therapeutic diet for patients scored high regarding importance and performance (doing great area). Medical records on patient's nutrition management, and nutrition counseling for requested patient scored low regarding the importance and high regarding performance (overdone area). Participation in medical rounds, personal nutrition education for patients, group nutrition education for patients, nutrition education for medical teams, development of a menu for therapeutic diet and standardized recipes, and provision of information on diet therapy for patients after discharge scored low regarding importance and performance (low priority area). Accreditation of convalescent hospitals and interest of medical professionals in clinical nutrition management were effective variables for the importance-performance gap of clinical nutrition management. In conclusion, the accreditation process and positive awareness of medical professionals with regard to clinical nutrition management had positive effects on reduction of the importance-performance gap in clinical nutrition management at convalescent hospitals. The strength of clinical nutrition management in the accreditation and development of an education program for increasing medical team or administrator interest in clinical nutrition management could lead to improvement of clinical nutrition management for elderly patients in convalescent hospitals.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify knowledge and the Need of pathophysiology, perceived connectivity between knowledge of pathophysiology and clinical practice, and confidence and satisfaction with clinical performance by applying the knowledge to clinical practice, and to analyze the correlation between the knowledge, perceived connectivity, and confidence and satisfaction of clinical nurses. Methods: Subjects consisted of 149 clinical nurses who work at 7 general hospitals and 6 university hospitals located in Seoul, Incheon, and Gyeonggi province in Korea. Those who learned pathophysiology during their undergraduate program were recruited by using a convenient sampling. The data were collected between April 23 and May 24 in 2012. Participants responded to self-administered questionnaires about knowledge and the need of pathophysiology, and the perceived connectivity between knowledge and clinical practice, and confidence and satisfaction with clinical performance by applying knowledge to clinical practice. Results: Mean scores of knowledge and the need of pathophysiology were $2.88{\pm}0.34$ and $2.33{\pm}0.39$ each. Scores of knowledge and the need of 3 units such as fluid and electrolyte imbalance, acid-base imbalance, and alterations in the respiratory system were high among 23 units while that of adolescent disorders was the lowest. The mean score of perceived connectivity between knowledge and clinical practice was $7.32{\pm}1.57$, and those of confidence and satisfaction with clinical performance by applying the knowledge to clinical practice were $7.66{\pm}1.66$ and $7.42{\pm}1.67$ respectively. Knowledge of pathophysiology was positively correlated with the perceived connectivity between knowledge and clinical practice, and confidence, and satisfaction with clinical performance. Conclusion: The results indicate that knowledge and the need of pathophysiology in clinical nurses is above average, and that knowledge of pathophysiology is important in promoting perceived connectivity with clinical practice and increasing confidence and satisfaction with clinical performance by applying knowledge to clinical practice.
