The objective of this study is to divide the classroom behaviors into the obstacle behaviors in the classroom and the participation behaviors in the classroom for improvement of classroom behaviors upon the subjects of 4th graders of elementary school, and to find out what effects the self-monitoring program influences onto classroom obstacle behaviors and classroom participation behaviors of the subjective children. Study problems established in order to achieve this objective of study are to find out: first, what effects the self-monitoring program influences classroom obstacle behaviors of children, and second, what effects the self-monitoring program influences classroom participation behaviors of children. The subjects of this study are 12 children of a normal classroom of 4th grade of A elementary school located in J city of Jeollabuk-do, out of which 8 children, who showed high proportion in the classroom obstacle behaviors, and 8 children, who showed low proportion in the classroom participation behaviors were selected, and 4 children were those who belonged to both groups resultantly in accordance with the behavior scales measured during the baseline period. To summarize the results obtained through this study, first, the self-monitoring program turned out to influence positive effects upon reduction in the classroom obstacle behaviors of children and retention of their changed behaviors; second, the self-monitoring program turned out to influence positive effects upon increase in the classroom participation behaviors of children and retention of their changed behaviors.
Through quantitative video analysis of four algebra classes and statistical analysis of various types of teacher evaluation behavior in the classroom teaching, we get: (1) Teacher evaluation behavior in classroom is close to take 1/5 of the total time of the classroom teaching, and it appears most frequently in class exercises and take the longest time; (2) There are many forms of teacher evaluation behavior in classroom, and most of the behaviors are positive assessment; (3) Recognition evaluation is relatively conservative in a single form without losing fairness; (4) Classroom assessments of teachers' behaviors are primarily concerned about students' knowledge and skills mastery, and it is less involved in student feelings, attitudes and behaviors; (5) The correct teacher evaluation behavior in classroom will inspire students to create internal motivations; and (6) The correct teacher evaluation behavior in classroom can stimulate the potential of students.
This study explored the effects of self efficacy, classroom contextual characteristics and help-avoidance attitudes on academic help-seeking behavior. Participants were 210 4th grade students. Data were analyzed by Pearson's correlation coefficient and multiple regression analysis through the SPSSWIN 12.0. Results showed that students' self efficacy, perception of teacher behavior and goal orientations were positively related to help-seeking behaviors. Help-avoidance attitudes were negatively related to help-seeking behaviors. Cognitive efficacy and social-emotional efficacy facilitated help-seeking behaviors. Help-seeking behaviors were influenced by teacher's supportive help and expectation. Mastery goal orientations and performance-approach goal orientations promoted help-seeking behaviors but performance-avoidance goal orientations impeded help-seeking behaviors. Autonomous intention attitudes expedited help-seeking behaviors but intention based on ability diminished help-seeking behaviors.
The purpose of this study was to examine changes in the rate of occurrence of challenging behaviors in young children according to their increase in age. The study is based on the responses of teachers in child care centers(N=246). They were asked which 38 types of challenging behavior occur most among ages 2, 3, 4, or 5 in young children's classrooms. The major results of this study were as follows. First, the occurrence rates of young children's challenging behaviors were classified into 5 clusters; decreased(Cluster 1, Cluster 2, Cluster 3), maintained(Cluster 4), or increased(Cluster 5) according to increases in their respective ages. Second, the behaviors such as throwing tantrums and biting, evident in Cluster 1, decreased very rapidly from a very high occurrence rate by age 3. The classroom culture maladjustment behaviors such as running aimlessly around the classroom and shouting, apparent in Cluster 2, had decreased rapidly from a high occurrence rate by age 4. The intentional classroom disruptive behaviors such as dropping objects to create noise and the peer culture maladjustment behaviors studied in Cluster 3 decreased gradually from a rate of medium occurrence by age 5. These results revealed the discontinuity which a few young children exhibit. Third, hurting others, observed in Cluster 4 maintained a low occurrence rate from age 2 until age 5. Using inappropriate language and threatening others in Cluster 5 increased gradually from a low occurrence at 2 to a high rate of occurrence at age 5. By carefully examining the change of young children's challenging behaviors on the basis of objective data in terms of the continuity/discontinuity and increased/decreased rate of diverse challenging behaviors, we will be better able help teachers and parents to plan the instruction, prevention and intervention of young children's challenging behaviors.
The purpose of this study was to understand the ways to enhance academic help-seeking by analyzing the structural relations among individual(achievement goal orientation) and contextural (teacher behaviors and classroom climate) factors known to affect help-seeking, one of the effective self-regulated learning strategies, for upper elementary students. More specifically, it explored the mediational roles of general classroom climate and student achievement goal orientation in the relation between supportive teacher behaviors and student academic help-seeking. A survey was administered to 315 fifth- or sixth-grade students in three elementary schools and the data from the survey was analyzed. Main results are as follows. First, supportive and learning-oriented teacher behaviors with high expectation related to more cohesive and positive classroom climate and more adaptive achievement goal such as mastery goal. Positive classroom climate played an important role in improving student mastery goal, and only mastery goal among different types of achievement goal orientation had a positive prediction of student help-seeking. Second, teacher behaviors significantly predicted student help-seeking through a double mediation of classroom climate and student mastery goal, which showed that classroom contextual factors and student individual factors interacted for help-seeking. These results suggest that the role of teachers as well as the mastery goal of students are important for enhancing students' help-seeking behavior as an adaptive learning strategy.
The present study examined the relation between academic help-seeking behaviors and classroom context based on students' perceptions of various classroom goals stressed by their teachers and their perceived teacher support for seeking help. The 305 subjects were 5th grade students(162 boys and 143 girls) of an elementary school in Gwangyang. The students completed a questionnaire. Data were analyzed by $2{\times}2$ ANOVA. Results showed that students' help-seeking behaviors were influenced by their teachers' goal orientation and perceived teacher support for seeking help. The results of this study suggest that perceived teacher support for seeking help may be expecially important for some students who could use instrumental help to continue task engagement, and teachers' learning-focused goal orientation is an important variable of instrumental help-seeking behavior.
Although increasing number of children are being raised by grandparents these days, little research exists on the development of the children in this arrangement. This study aimed at examining school adjustment of the children raised by grandparents, by comparing academic achievement and general classroom and school behaviors of the children in grandparent families with those of their peers from other types of families such as two-parents, single parent, kinship and institution care, and single parent with grandparent(s). Three hundred and twenty four 2nd graders md two hundred ninety eight 5th graders were surveyed for this study. It was found that children raised solely by grandparents did quite well, relative to children in traditional families where two parents were present. Children from single-parent families were significantly worse in school achievement and study habits than children in traditional nuclear families. Girls obtained higher scores on school achievement and study habits whereas they showed lower scores on problem behaviors than boys. There was also an interaction effect between family structure and gender of child in school achievement.

The purpose of this study is to propose the standards for dimension system for unit space of the classroom in elementary school. The curriculum of elementary school has changed. It has been reflected the architectural plan of classroom of the nationwide elementary school. However the Ministry of Education repealed the statue about the facilities of the schools on September in 1997 and the new education curriculum -the 7th curriculum- demands various activities in the classroom. So we need to another size of unit space of the classroom in elementary school because the size of unit space will affect the quality of education. This study represents that the size of unit plan is based on the size of human body, education curriculum, established day, the number limit of classroom and teaching tools. In this study, regression analysis is used to find out a part of the body-size of Korean.
Instroduction: The purpose of this study was to investigate safety education-related backgrounds and safety behaviors of elementary school children at a local area in Jeonbuk province. Methods: Study subjects were 308 5th and 6th graders from 6 schools located in J City and the data were collected from June 16-27, 2003. Research instrument to test safety behaviors was 4-points summated scale (Cronbach${\alpha}$= .94) composed of 54-items with three sub-categories school life safety (${\alpha}$= .88), traffic safety (${\alpha}$= .86), and daily life safety (${\alpha}$= .84), The data was analyzed by percentage, x2-test, t-test, ANOVA and Duncan test using SPSS/PC 10.0. Results: 1. Safety Education-related Characteristics: Safety education was mostly conducted during extracurricular hour as picnic (37%) and regular class (37.2%); and the instructors of safety education were school nurse (33.2%), classroom teacher (30.9%), and parents (23.4%) in order. About two third (71.0%) of the subjects have had many kinds of school event program such as essay writing, poster drawing, oratorical contest in the course of safety education According to gender, girl students was more favorable about school events as a effective safety education measure (x2=9.188, p= .010); and according to school location, nural school taught more at moming & closing session (x2=7.383, p= .025), by school nurse or classroom teacher (x2=36.574, p= .001), and had more frequent (x2=63.337, p= .001) safety education class. 2. Practice of safety behaviors: Mean scores of safety behaviors was $106.9{\pm}24.92$ out of 162 points. According gender, the scores of girl students (t=-3.296, p= .001) were significant higher than boy students. But there was not any significant difference according to school area According to safety education-related characteristics, the scores of safety behaviors was significantly higher in the group who thought that school event program was more effective on safety education (F=4.024, p= .019), and who were more interested in current safety education class (F= 10.203, p= .001) Conclusions: From the above findings, the authors concluded that school-based safety education was mainly conducted at extra-curricular and regular class, and by school nurse or classroom teacher in elementary school. Even though the mean scores of safety behaviors of elementary school children was in medium level, those. were significant higher in girl students and in rural school children. And extra-curricular activities and school event programs were suggested as more effective strategies for school-based safety education Based on the above findings, safety education class can be recommended in regular curricular basis; and various extracurricular activities and school event programs need to be developed for more effective school-based safety education. In addition, further study on gender-specific factors on safety behaviors and nationwide survey on school-based safety education should be needed.
This study introduces the Classroom Assessment Scoring System (CLASS) and explores the characteristics of CLASS for observing classroom. The CLASS is a standardized observation instrument that was largely developed for use in the USA. The CLASS attempts to provide a conceptual framework for categorizing classroom interactions and consists of three broad domains of quality (emotional supports, classroom organization, instructional supports). We simulated this method to the elementary school classes. The professional-teacher makes the best use of student's initiation behaviors, and the novice teacher focused on the leading the contents of subject. The novice teacher tyr to make more positive climate and to present more frequent feedback to students than professional teacher's classroom. The professional teacher would like to reveal the student's opinions, questions and subtle emotional state. The CLASS can be used to collect data on a wide range of specific aspects of the teaching and learning process at any given time.
