  • We construct the approximate bootstrap confidence intervals for reliability (R) when the distributions of strength and stress are both normal. Also we propose percentile, bias correct (BC), bias correct acceleration (BCa), and percentile-t intervals for R. We compare with the accuracy of the proposed bootstrap confidence intervals and classical confidence interval based on asymptotic normal distribution through Monte Carlo simulation. Results indicate that the confidence intervals by bootstrap method work better than classical confidence interval. In particular, confidence intervals by BC and BCa method work well for small sample and/or large value of true reliability.

  • Modern methods in determining the value of the Hubble constant are divided into two main ways: the classical distance ladder method and the inverse distance ladder method. The classical distance ladder method is based on Cepheid calibrated Type Ia supernovae (SNe Ia), which are known as powerful distance indicator. The inverse distance ladder method uses cosmic microwave background radiation, which emitted from the high-z universe, and the cosmological model. Recent estimations of the Hubble constant based on these two methods show a $2{\sim}3{\sigma}$ difference, which called the "Hubble tension". It is currently an issue in the modern cosmology. We have been working on the luminosity calibration of SNe Ia based on the Tip of the Red Giant Branch (TRGB), which is a precise population I distance indicator. We present the TRGB distance estimates of 5 SNe Ia host galaxies with the archival Hubble Space Telescope image data. We derive the mean absolute maximum magnitude of 5 SNe Ia and the value of the Hubble constant. Cosmological implications of our estimate will be discussed.

  • Observations have indicated that magnetic reconnect ion may occur frequently in the photosphere and chromosphere as well as in the solar corona. The observed features include cancelling magnetic features seen in photospheric magnetograms, and different kinds of small-scale activities such as UV explosive events and EUV jets. By integrating the observed parameters of these features with the Sweet-Parker reconnect ion theory, an attempt is made to clarify the nature of chromospheric magnetic reconnection. Our results suggest that magnetic reconnect ion may be occurring at many different levels of the photosphere and chromosphere without a preferred height and at a faster speed than is predicted by the Sweet-Parker reconnect ion model using the classical value of electric conductivity. Introducing an anomalous magnetic diffusivity 10-100 times the classical value is one of the possible ways of explaining the fast reconnect ion as inferred from observations.

  • The purpose of this study is the design of composite shaft which is wound by Filament Winding method. Classical laminated plate theory was used for analyzing the stress, and for structure design. The diameter and thickness of composite shaft were calculated by this theory. The result that if tensile stress was zero, torsion stress was a certain value below 0.4(diameter rate) and torsion strength was the highest value on $45^{\circ}C$(winding angle). In case of $90^{\circ}C$(winding angle), we have to consider the torsional monent when the composites shaft was load.

  • Process information is known to have the continuous distribution in many manufacturing processes. Generalized p-chart has been developed for controlling processes by classifying the information characteristics into several groups. But it is improper to describe continuous processes with the classified process informal ion, which is based on the classical set concept. Fuzzy control chart, has been developed for the control of linguistic data, but it is also based on the dichotomous notion of classical set theory. In this paper, fuzzy sampling method is studied in order to process the uncertain data properly. The method is incorporated with the fuzzy control chart. Statistical characteristics of the fuzzy representative value are utilized to device the fuzzy-statistical control chart. The fuzzy-statistical control chart is compared with the generalized p-chart and both the sensitivity to the process information distribution change pared robustiness against the noise on the process information of the fuzzy-statistical control chart are shown to be superior.

  • Nanobeams are widely used as a structural element for nanodevices and nanomachines. The development of nano-sized machines depends on proper understanding of mechanical behavior of these nano-sized beam elements. Small length scales such as lattice spacing between atoms, surface properties, grain size etc. are need to be considered when applying any classical continuum model. In this study, Eringen's nonlocal elasticity theory is incorporated into classical beam model considering the effects of axial extension and the shear deformation to capture unique static behavior of the nanobeams under continuum mechanics theory. The governing differential equations are obtained for curved beams and solved exactly by using the initial value method. Circular uniform beam with concentrated loads are considered. The displacements, slopes and the stress resultants are obtained analytically. A detailed parametric study is conducted to examine the effect of the nonlocal parameter, mechanical loadings, opening angle, boundary conditions, and slenderness ratio on the static behavior of the nanobeam.

  • Five neolignans (1 - 4, 8), two sesquiterpene-lignans (5 - 6), and two phenylpropanoids (7, 9) were isolated from the stem bark of Magnolia obovata Thunberg (Magnoliaceae) by repeated column chromatography. The structures of isolated compounds were identified as 4-methoxyhonokiol (1), obovatol (2), magnolol (3), honokiol (4), eudeshonokiol B (5), eudesobovatol B (6), coumaric acid (7), magnaldehyde B (8), and ${\rho}-coumaric$ acid (9) on the basis of spectroscopic analysis including 2D-NMR and MS data. Compounds 1 - 9 were evaluated for their anti-complement activities against the classical pathway of the complement system. Of them, compound 8 showed significant anti-complement activity on the classical pathway with $IC_{50}$ value of 102.7 ${\mu}M$, whereas compounds 1 - 7 and 9 were inactive. This result indicated that an aldehyde group in the neolignan is important for the anti-complement activity against the classical pathway.

  • The sensibilities of cotton fabrics were subjectively evaluated by 126 subjects with 7-points scale questionnaires using the 4-dimensions and 8-axes system, which was composed of adjectives such as ‘masculine-feminine’,‘new-old’,‘casual-classical’, and ‘ambiguous-arranged’. And the sensibilities of cotton fabrics were classified through the cluster analysis. Also, we measured color and physical characteristics, which were variables to have an effect on the sensibilities of cotton fabrics. The sensibilities of cotton fabrics were classified into 8 groups such as ‘feminine, arranged, and classical sensibility’,‘arranged, classical, and old sensibility’,‘feminine sensibility’,‘new, feminine, and ambiguous sensibility’,‘casual and new sensibility’, and ‘ambiguous and old sensibility’The sensibilities of cotton fabrics were more influenced by color characteristics such as value, chroma, and hue than by physical characteristics.

  • The bearing capacity of drilled shaft is affected by several factors, such as shaft length, shape, surface roughness, young's modulus of geomaterials and shaft, soil strength, confining stress and so on. However, there has been no design method of drilled shaft considering all factors mentioned above. Moreover, since geomaterials are simply classified as sand, clay and rock, there was no design criterion for IGM (Intermediate Geomaterials). Therefore, the rigorous design approach of drilled shaft was not possible by classical design method. However, since these characteristics were not considered in classical theories, bearing capacity was generally different ken practical value. In this study, the bearing capacity of drilled shaft with the IGM's theory was compared with those of classical theories. The results showed that classical method showed smaller values of bearing capacity than those of field load transfer data. Moreover, the evaluated value of bearing capacity with IGM theory corresponded fairly well with those of field data.
