Functional Areas of Kwang-ju City through Analysis of the Taxi-flow Pattern (택시통행패턴에 따른 광주시 기능지역 분석)

  • Amongst various analytic methods of internal structure of city, the factor analysis method which uses O-D matrix data has some merits and characteristics compared to other methods. 1) It is possible to find one certain interaction and flow pattern between traffic zones with in a city through reanalyzing O-D data which is too complex to grasp specific meaning or pattern of flow systems. 2) It can be easily visualized the traffic flow pattern by using adequate graphic techniques, and also can clarify the functional areas whose interaction linkages are significantly strong enough between each other. In this study, the taxi traffic O-D data between 42 traffic zones in Kwang-ju city was reanalyzied by varimax rotated factor analysis methods. As a result, four factors that have significant level factor loading (over 0.5 ) and factor score (over 1.0) were sorted out. so to speak four different functional areas were clarified in Kwang-ju city, of the West, the East, the south, and the North functional areas whose interaction linkages are significantly strong enough between each other. In the study, the taxi traffic O-D data between 42 traffic zones in Kwang-ju city was reanalyzied by varimax rotated factor analysis methods. Accordingly the factor analysis methods using traffic data seems to proved to be very accurate and useful analytic instruments for analyzing flow pattern and clarifying functional areas of city, and believed to provide basic informations and criteria for practical urban land use planning and transportation planning.

Consideration of the Spatial and Physical Planning and the Role of Participants for Ubiquitous City (u-City의 공간개념과 도시건설의 주체별 역할)

  • Recently, the concern of ubiquitous City(u-City) in each level of governments is on the increase, and they are professing themselves to follow the u-city concept on constructing new urban development or urban renewal project. But the u-city plan and construction proceed as the simple sets of advanced technology without fundamental space concept or space plan of the u-city. Therefore, the u-city as a citizen's living space and a basic urban environment is defined in this article, the viewpoint of the space plan and the recent trends of u-city in korea are reviewed. On the basis of this review, this article proposed an approach of the spatial plan for a u-city construction, here the approach consisted of the 3 stages of planning, constructing, and maintaining of the u-city, and finally the role of the participant in the each stage and spatial hierarchy was proposed.

  • Since $CO_2$ emissions are recognized as the biggest contribution to climate change, the needs and international efforts for $CO_2$ emissions reduction are increasing. The developed countries are driving strategies to boost green industry as a new growth engine. Following this global trend, based on the ongoing U-City project as a new city model, it is required to analyze the changes of $CO_2$ emissions in U-City to identify its potential for reducing carbon dioxide emissions. This study aims at identifying the potential and effects on $CO_2$ reduction by analyzing the level of $CO_2$ emissions before and after introducing U-City. Bundang-Gu, Seongnam-City & Ilsan-Gu, Goyang-City among Phase I new tow ns were selected as model cities before introducing U-City and Dongtan-Dong, Hwaseong-City as a model city after introducing U-City. The result showed 30% reduction of $CO_2$ emissions in the comparison of tw o models.

  • Last February, $\ulcorner$The Act on Ubiquitous City Construction and etc.$\lrcorner$ was approved by the National Assembly. The law stipulates the regulations on the planning, construction and management of the Ubiquitous City. As its national-level law system is about to take its effects, future new city developments are expected to have its legal basis to be built to meet ubiquitous city requirements. Also, it is anticipated that such needs would require much more planning techniques and strategies. In reaction to those upcoming needs, this study is to search for new planning approaches to realize the u-City in reality. It is also to supply with the framework to execute the u-City projects in more structuralize and systemize manner. Therefore, with the purpose of the establishment of comprehensive planning system, the theoretical bases were sought in relation to planning u-City, pre-existing u-City development cases and regarding regulations were analyzed, and then basic concepts, features, and constituent factors were set up.

An Empirical Analysis on Correlation between Carbon Emission and Urban Spatial Structure (도시공간구조와 탄소배출량간 상관관계 실증 분석)

  • The government is carrying forward a sustainable development which reduces green-house gas and environmental pollution by preparing 'Low Carbon Green Development' policy basis as a new paradigm of national development. This study aims to understand the status of atmosphere contamination which Seoul has by finding correlation among social, economical indexes and carbon, the humanities and social characteristic materials which best express types of city and correlation and to suggest implications. According to the results of the analysis, first the carbon emission volume of Seoul recorded 0.56 ppm, Jongno, Jung-Gu, Kuro, Kangnam and Songpa were more than the average of Seoul and Kwangjin-Gu & Kangbuk-Gu, relative north east regions, Yeongdeungpo-Gu and Dongjak-Gu, south west regions showed lower CO occurrences. Second, according to the correlation and factor analysis, elements which affect CO emission volume of Seoul are largely represented by regional level, traffic level and development density level. Third, when the importance of influence factors based on the analyzed standard coefficient by a regression model, traffic and development density level were most important by recording traffic level (0.967), environmental level (0.385), regional level (0.530) and development density (0.561). Consequently, it was revealed that the traffic level most affected CO emission.

A Study on the Methods of Improving the Lifelong Learning City Project Based on the Community Development Theory (지역사회개발론에 근거한 평생학습도시 사업 개선 방안 탐색)

  • The Lifelong Learning City Project has made quantitative expansion as well as qualitative growth since 2001 but the project has been criticized by academic scholars and field practitioners. The Lifelong Learning City Project is a national policy project which has been promoted by the Ministry of Education and Human Resources Development and should be required to make production profits proportional to the amount of public finance. The Lifelong Learning City Project is a community development project intended to promote growth and progress by supporting the community in lifelong learning endeavors. Therefore, the community development theory could offer guidelines to the Lifelong Learning City Project. Based on this assumption, this study intends to investigate the Lifelong Learning City Project at the national, city, and county levels using the community development theory. The improvement methods of the Lifelong Learning City Project are role allotment between national and wide level projects supporting organizations, and the establishment of a system and a long term project policy. In addition, the project is to have a more systematic performance. It is to enhance opportunities for community members' participation, and practice in planning, performance of learning, and the proper performance in regard to the community conditions and specificity. The most important goal of the Lifelong Learning City Project is to support the empowerment of community members by making opportunity planning, practicing and sharing lifelong learning more accessible.

Plan to Promote the Supply of Hydrogen City Buses in Busan (부산시 수소시내버스 보급 활성화 방안 연구)

  • There are 2,517 buses on 143 routes in Busan. One company is operating 36 hydrogen city buses (1.4%) and two hydrogen charging stations. By 2030, the number of hydrogen city buses will be increased to 500 and 40 hydrogen charging stations. In the survey of city bus companies, 61.5% of respondents answered 'not reviewing (at all)' and 23.0% of respondents '(actively) reviewing hydrogen buses'. And as for the level of help that hydrogen city buses give to bus companies, 23.5% answered 'helpful'. In order to promote the introduction of hydrogen city buses, first, it is necessary to stipulate support for hydrogen bus purchase cost and hydrogen charging station construction cost in related ordinances so that bus companies do not increase their burden of purchasing hydrogen buses in the future. Second, identify the number of new city buses introduced, convert about 50% to hydrogen city buses by the mid-term, and build 50% of the chargers in public garages with hydrogen chargers. Third, expand hydrogen refueling stations in city bus garages.

Analysis and Improvement Strategies of Academic Achievement of Middle School in Changwon City (창원시 중학교 학력수준 분석 및 개선 방안 모색)

  • This paper analyzed the current level of the middle school academic achievement in Changwon City and explored the ways for improving academic achievement of the middle school in Changwon City. The data used in the analysis were the results of National Assessment of Educational Achievement of middle school students from 2013 to 2016 which was released on the school's information website(www.schoolinfo.go.kr) First, the analysis found that the academic achievement level of the middle school in Changwon City was not higher than those of Gwangju, Daejeon, and Ulsan, where the population size is similar. Second, the level of academic achievement among middle schools in Changwon City differed by year. Third, the level of academic achievement of middle school in Changwon City differed by district. Fourth, the educational achievement gap among middle schools in Changwon City existed by public and private school, as well as by male school, female school, and male and female Middle School. The paper suggested that schools with low ratio of proficient and above achievement levels should look for ways to raise the percentage of proficient and above achievement levels, and schools with higher rates of below basic achievement should make efforts to solve the problem.

New Action Pattern of a Maltose-forming α-Amylase from Streptomyces sp. and its Possible Application in Bakery

  • An $\alpha$-amylase (EC 3.2.1.1) was purified that catalyses the production of a high level of maltose from starch without the attendant production of glucose. The enzyme was produced extracellularly by thermophilic Streptomyces sp. that was isolated from Thailand's soil. Purification was achieved by alcohol precipiation, DEAE-Cellulose, and Gel filtration chromatographies. The purified enzyme exhibited maximum activity at pH 6-7 and $60^{\circ}C$. It had a relative molecular mass of 45 kDa, as determined by SDS-PAGE. The hydrolysis products from starch had $\alpha$-anomeric forms, as determined by $^1H$-NMR. This maltose-forming $\alpha$-amylase completely hydrolyzed the soluble starch to produce a high level of maltose, representing up to 90%. It hydrolyzed maltotetrose and maltotriose to primarily produce maltose (82% and 62%, repectively) without the attendant production of glucose. The high maltose level as a final end-product from starch and maltooligosaccharides, and the unique action pattern of this enzyme, indicate an unusual maltose-forming system. After the addition of the enzyme in the bread-baking process, the bread's volume increased and kept its softness longer than when the bread had no enzyme.
