In modern society the architecture surface involves a lot of meaning other than having simple physical functions. The interface space generated by the surface characteristics among those becomes to have many significances in modern society, and plays a role of symbolic space of a city. The interface space is threshold space that connects two separate spaces and revitalize its states. Nowadays, people have many chances to communicate each other through the interface space and also settle urban problems caused by spacial and functional discontinuity through the interface space. However, the interface space in Korea could not be built up well due to rapid growth of cities, and a lot of different natures in space and viewpoint have been appeared accordingly, which gives rise to a problem of the discontinuity of urban spaces. Therefore, this study aims at the research on the characteristics of interface space through architecture surface composing the major factor of a city; architecture integument in Nam-po Dong, Jung Gu, Busan City as the object of the study.
The purpose of this study was to analyze food behavior of tourists to develop consumer-oriented local cuisines for the Goseong dinosaur festival. A random sample of 518 tourists took part in one-on-one interviews which were conducted between May 7 and May 28, 2006. The highest percentage of people were in the 30-39 age group, and the over 60 years were the second highest. The participants resided mainly in urban areas of Gyeongnam province and other large Korean cities. Most of the tourists had breakfast at home before leaving for the festival, 27.8% skipped breakfast or bought and ate various food s as a breakfast on the way to the main venue. The proportion of the tourists who wanted to eat lunch at outlets in the main venue was 39.8%, while 34.6% of the tourists brought their lunch boxes. Only 14.5% had a desire to eat lunch at restaurants in Goseong. 33.8% of the tourists were willing to pay 5,000-6,000 Won per capita for the lunch, 15.6% wanted to pay 7,000-10,000 Won per capita. Noodles and Gimbab were chosen as favorite dishes for lunch by 15.4% of tourist while Bibimbab was selected by 12.0%. Various aspects of food behavior were different between the two predominant age groups. For example, the prices and the kinds of meals they wanted, and the places they preferred to eat meals. Therefore, it is suggested that more than 2 kinds of local cuisines have to be developed for the predominant age groups. The price of the local cuisine for the 30s age group should not exceed 5,000-6,000Won, whereas less than 10,000Won is an appropriate price for the over 60s. Menus for children also need to be developed, along with breakfast menus specifically for the 30s age group.
In this age of information ruled by new technologies and knowledge, the world is interconnected as a single community, and within this trend of globalization, new cultural codes are emerging through temporal fusion between the past and the present and spatial fusion between different regions and countries. In this situation, it seems meaningful to review Korean fusion foods and restaurants serving such foods, as well as to consider their future directions. Thus, the objective of the present study was to survey and analyze Korean fusion restaurants representing Korean culture not only in Korea, but also in foreign cities, and to identify the expression characteristics of such restaurants. Based on restaurants recommended in relevant magazines and on Internet sites, 18 spaces were selected, visited, and surveyed, in which tradition and modernism were well-mixed. Data on the shapes, materials, colors, and patterns of spatial elements and food-related elements, including photographs, were collected and analyzed. The results are as follows. Of the 18 restaurants, 13 (72%) showed temporal fusion in both spatial and food-related elements, 4 showed temporal fusion in spatial elements and cultural fusion in food-related elements, and 1 showed cultural fusion in both spatial and food-related elements. In general, the spaces were mainly designed with modern elements and partially with traditional elements (ceilings, windows, furniture, articles), and the fusion of food-related elements was made in diverse forms that included temporal fusion restructuring traditional menus contemporarily, and cultural fusion harmonizing traditional food with Western cookery.

Underground construction for traffic networks, complexes, and storage facilities has risen as an effective land use plan for dealing with emerging problems such as overcrowded urban cities and traffic jams. This paper performed an economic feasibility analysis of the development of the integrated field management system which provides field workers and managers with 3D-based location tracking and clear communication during underground construction works. To conduct the analysis, processes and problems of field management for underground construction were analyzed and deduction in accidents and field management costs and productivity improvement were estimated as expected benefits. Based on computed benefits and costs, an economic analysis was conducted using Benefit/Cost ratio(B/C), Net Present Value(NPV), and Internal Rate of Return(IRR) and then sensitivity analysis was performed to cope with the uncertainty of assumed variables.

It would be helpful to evaluate the potential flood damage and compare quantitatively with each other when establishing the regional flood countermeasure and determining the execution of the restoration works and emergency action plans. The Flood Damage Index (FDI) in Korea, possible to estimate localized potential risks caused by flood damages, therefore, was proposed in this study. It was considered with the scale of regional flood damages including the regional characteristics and quantitative grounds. First, the four significant causes were categorized as natural, social, politic, and facilitative ones. And the eleven selected factors representing four causes were determined. Finally, the FDI was obtained by the weighting linear summation of the corrected 11 factors multiplied by the weighting values based on the professional questionnaires. Employing the FDI, the potential risk analysis about flood damages for 229 cities and counties in Korea was conducted. These results would be utilized as the essential basis for more rational and practical countermeasures and plans against flood damage.

In high-density high-rise cities such as Hong Kong, buildings account for nearly 90% of energy consumption and 61% of carbon emissions. Therefore, it is important to study the design of buildings, especially high-rise buildings, to achieve lower carbon emissions in the city. The carbon emissions of a building consist of embodied carbon from the production of construction materials and operational carbon from energy consumption during daily operation (e.g., air-conditioning and lighting). An integrated analysis of both types of carbon emissions can strengthen the design of low carbon buildings, but most of the previous studies concentrated mainly on either embodied or operational carbon. Therefore, the primary objective of this study is to develop a holistic methodology framework considering both embodied and operational carbon, in order to enhance the sustainable design of low carbon high-rise buildings. The framework will be based on the building information modeling (BIM) technology because BIM can be integrated with simulation systems and digital models of different disciplines, thereby enabling a holistic design and assessment of low carbon buildings. Structural analysis program is first coupled with BIM to validate the structural performance of a building design. The amounts of construction materials and embodied carbon are then quantified by a BIM-based program using the Dynamo programming interface. Operational carbon is quantified by energy simulation software based on the green building extensible Markup Language (gbXML) file from BIM. Computational fluid dynamics (CFD) will be applied to analyze the ambient wind effect on indoor temperature and operational carbon. The BIM-based framework serves as a decision support tool to compare and explore more environmentally-sustainable design options to help reduce the carbon emissions in buildings.

Mobility is an essential human need. Human survival and societal interaction depend on the ability to move people and goods. Efficient mobility systems are essential facilitators of economic development. Cities could not exist and global trade could not occur without systems to transport people and goods cheaply and efficiently. Rail has been considered as one of the important components of the transportation infrastructure required to service and improve the performance and productivity of an economy. In Nigeria, the rail infrastructure built by the colonial master several decades ago has been left in a state of total deterioration. This long neglect was occasioned by the failure of the government to pay adequate attention to infrastructure development. There is a vital and urgent need for rail infrastructure development in Nigeria. This study presents a systematic review of the evolution of rail, the current nature of railway infrastructure delivery in Nigeria, and offers possible suggestions on how to achieve an effective and sustainable rail infrastructure delivery in Nigeria. A thorough literature search of academic databases was conducted on current research trends on the subject of railway infrastructure by systematically reviewing selected published articles from reputable research domains. The analysis of the selected articles revealed the following among others (1) the existing railway infrastructure is in a state of mess and not sustainable, and (2), Government's investment/commitment in rail infrastructure seems inadequate compared to what is obtainable in other developed countries. Rail infrastructure development cannot be left to the Federal government of Nigeria to solve on its own; collaboration and participation are required. Government as a matter of priority should devote considerable attention to the development of rail infrastructure to harness the economic potential and transformation that sustainable rail infrastructural projects will provide.
Recently, Interests in rehabilitation of the old town center has grown. Incheon city are propelling many renewal plans for the area, Rapid Urbanization and outskirt developments have expanded city space and city center has been weakened and declined. With responds to these phenomena, World's interests on creative city is increasing nowadays and projects of creating creative city from many countries are being launched. Korea is one of the countries who follows this trend and is also proceeding projects on creating creative city. However, identities of our nation and city which have rapidly grown only based on logics of economic growth are disappearing. Hence, this study intend to focus on the cities of creative which draw the participation of its citizens. Thus, this study examining basic theoretical background from literatures, theory, precedent studies related to citizen participation & creative city. Then, the study establish a framework of analysis by extracting principal factors to creative city construction methodology centered on citizen participation. Furthermore, this study suggests the creative city construction methodology of citizen participation centered on for old downtown through survey residents consciousness.

This study was attempted to understand the relationship between disaster awareness, disaster attitude, and disaster response ability of the general public, and to be used as basic data to raise awareness of disasters and prepare countermeasures. This study was conducted from July 16 to July 31, 2021 for a total of 250 ordinary people living in K-do and D metropolitan cities. As a result of this study, it was found that it had an effect between disaster awareness, disaster attitude, and disaster response ability. Specifically, it was found that the general public's awareness of disaster had a significant effect on disaster attitude (necessity for disaster preparation, disaster management) (p<.001). In addition, among the sub-factors of disaster attitude, disaster management was found to have a significant effect on disaster response ability (p< .01). Therefore, specific and periodic education should be prepared to increase the ability to cope with disasters by increasing the general public's awareness of disasters.
Under the goal of investigating the difference of staff perceptions in performance evaluations at local self-sufficiency centers, this study set out to examine whether differences would be found between team leaders or those in higher positions and the common staff in criteria, procedures, implementation, rewards, and feedback of performance evaluations. For that purpose, the investigator conducted a survey by mail with staff working for local self-sufficiency centers in 15 cities and provinces across the nation from September 6 to 30, 2010. Of 672 questionnaires that were distributed, 439 were returned. Of these, a total of 432 were used in latent mean analysis. The major findings are as follows: first, the staff at local self-sufficiency centers had a relatively negative perception of performance evaluation in terms of rewards for evaluation results. Secondly, the team leaders or those in higher positions had a more negative perception of performance evaluation in terms of evaluation criteria and rewards for evaluation results than common staff. Based on those findings, the study offered some implications with regard to performance evaluation systems at local self-sufficiency centers.
