A Study of Clothing Recorded in the[the Odes(詩經)](II)-About the Women's Clothing & Textiles- ([시경]에 나타난 복식자료 연구(II)-여자복식과 직물을 중심으로-)

  • This paper studies women's clothing and textiles recorded in the『the Odes』, and refers research materials on the old commentaries about the『the Odes』and the various kinds of records and remains. The results regarding women's clothing in『the Odes』are follow: 1. Ti-i, Chin-i are the women's ceremonial dresses. Ti-i is a kind of the court dress and the shape is a long dress embroidered with pheasant. Chan-i belongs to the lower grade compared with the six ritual dresses worn by the queen and is made of Hu that is a kind of the white soft-wrinkled fabrics. 2. A women's I-Shang is composed of a blouse and a skirt. It is the classic style before the Sh n-I appears in China. Also we find that they use the standard colours for a blouse and the intermediate colours for a skirt in Chou period. 3. Chiung-I, Chiung-Shang and Hsieh-Pen are a kind of the robe put over the former garment made of Chin not to display to elegance. 4. Fu, Ch n-Fa, Pei and T'i are a kind of women's wig. Ti and the six-Chia are women's hair ornaments. Ch'i-Chin and Ju-L are a kind of the working women's turbun. 5. The women's belt ornaments are classified into the practical things and the decorational things like those for men. The results regarding fabrics in the『the Odes』are as follow: 1. The silk fabrics; There are Chin, Hu, Chou, Tz , Su, Hsiu. 2. The woolen fabrics; There is Ho. 3. The linen fabrics; There are the hemp and the ramie in the remains of Chou period. Also there are Ch'ih and Hsi categorized in Ko fabrics.

  • Objective : Most disease of the aged comprise chronic illness, hence the diet is important. Yet, the study on diet methodology for the remedy of the aged folks' aliments is scarce. The diet for the aged must be easy to digest- in regard to the physiological features of the aged, delightfully chewable, while meeting the expectation and guaranteeing nutrition-supply and remedial efficacy. Material and Method : This study is designed to accomplish following things with the Yang-lo-bong-chin-seo, a text on maintaining and upbringing the health for the aged: (1) classify the food recorded in the text in terms of cooking methods, (2) then sort the main ingredients in remedial herbal rice porridge(Yak-sun-jook) in food material science manner, (3) evaluate the cooking methods of the porridge for each and various symptoms, and (4) assess the features of each ingredient of the porridge, the value of it both in oriental medicine's and nutrition's scope. Results : 1) Among 64 main dishes recorded in Yang-lo-bong-chin-seo, rice porridge composes the majority, which is 64%. Stew and soup account for 60% of side dishes. 2) In 15 food cures, 43 remedial herbal rice porridges(Yak-sun-jook) were recorded. 3) Yak-sun-jook utilizes most chinese herbs as its food material. 4) Yak-sun-jook is made more with vegetable ingredients than animal ingredients and consist highly of chinese herbs. 5) Main ingredients in the porridges are effective in disease cure in addition to sufficient, well-balanced nutrition. 6) Cooking method of the porridge is grinding chinese herbs into powder or boiling them for a long time. Conclusion: All forementioned steps build the informational foundation - for this purpose the information be utilized - for making possible the development and the devising of pragmatic and feasible Remedial herbal rice porridge(Yak-sun-jook).

Facial profile parameters and their relative influence on bilabial prominence and the perceptions of facial profile attractiveness: A novel approach

  • Objective: To evaluate the relative importance of bilabial prominence in relation to other facial profile parameters in a normal population. Methods: Profile stimulus images of 38 individuals (28 female and 10 male; ages 19-25 years) were shown to an unrelated group of first-year students (n = 42; ages 18-24 years). The images were individually viewed on a 17-inch monitor. The observers received standardized instructions before viewing. A six-question questionnaire was completed using a Likert-type scale. The responses were analyzed by ordered logistic regression to identify associations between profile characteristics and observer preferences. The Bayesian Information Criterion was used to select variables that explained observer preferences most accurately. Results: Nasal, bilabial, and chin prominences; the nasofrontal angle; and lip curls had the greatest effect on overall profile attractiveness perceptions. The lip-chin-throat angle and upper lip curl had the greatest effect on forehead prominence perceptions. The bilabial prominence, nasolabial angle (particularly the lower component), and mentolabial angle had the greatest effect on nasal prominence perceptions. The bilabial prominence, nasolabial angle, chin prominence, and submental length had the greatest effect on lip prominence perceptions. The bilabial prominence, nasolabial angle, mentolabial angle, and submental length had the greatest effect on chin prominence perceptions. Conclusions: More prominent lips, within normal limits, may be considered more attractive in the profile view. Profile parameters have a greater influence on their neighboring aesthetic units but indirectly influence related profile parameters, endorsing the importance of achieving an aesthetic balance between relative prominences of all aesthetic units of the facial profile.

An experimental study on the reproducibility and the position of centric relation and Myocentric (중심위와 Myocentric의 재현성 및 상호위치에 관한 연구)

  • The establishment and/or registration of an optimal or physiologic relationship between the maxillae and mandible has long been a subject of considerable interest and controversy in dentistry. Centric relation has been generally accepted as a repeatable starting point for restoring the mouth. Recently, it has been claimed that an electronic device (Myo-Monitor) will produce an accurate, reproducible occlusal registration at the vertical and horizontal occlusal position most compatible with the muscular of each patient. The objectives of this study was to compare Myo-Monitor centric to centric relation at the points of reproducibility and anteroposterior, superoinferior position. A Vericheck instrument was employed for examining difference in the position and reproducibility of mandible reproduced by the various check bite records. For this study, 8 dental students and dentists who had no missing teeth and no difficulties of mandibular movement were selected. The following three different positions of the mandible were registered (a) centric relation manipulated by means of chin-point technique with Lucia-jig, (b) centric relation manipulated by means of bilateral technique, (c) Myocentric manipulated by Myo-Monitor. From this experiment, the following results were obtained. 1. Bilateral manipulated centric relation was more reproducible than Myocentric in anteroposterior and superoinferior position , but more reproducible than centric relation manipulated by means of chin point technique with Lucia-jig in anteroposoterior position. Centric relation manipulated by means of chin Point technique with Lucia-jig was more reproducible than Myocentric in right anteroposterior and superoinferior position. 2. Centric relation by means of chin point technique with Lucia-jig was posterior($2.16{\pm}0.78mm$) and superior($0.41{\pm}0.16mm$) to centric occlusion. Bilateral manipulated centric relation was posterior($1.68{\pm}0.10mm$) and superior($1.02{\pm}0.45mm$) to centric occlusion. Myocentric was anterior($0.75{\pm}0.70mm$), inferior($0.59{\pm}0.44mm$) to centric occlusion.

A longitudinal Study on Change of Mandibular Symphysis using metallic implants (골내 임프란트를 이용한 하악 이부 성장 변화에 대한 종적 연구)

  • The present study was conducted to assess the growth changes of human chin in childhood and adolescence at various stages of skeletal maturation using metallic implant installed in mandibular body. Lateral cephalographs including 23 subjects (9 males and 14 females) between 7-18 years old were used, which had been taken at University of California in San Francisco and kept at University of the Pacific. Three lateral cephalographs were chosen for each subject according to CVM (Cervical Vertebral Maturation) method (CVM stage 1 to 2, CVM stage 3 to 4, and CVM stage 5 to 6) which assess the extent of the skeletal maturation using the second, third, and fourth cervical vertebrae. V-ceph was used in order to mark the 8 landmarks (S, N, A, B, Pog, Me, Go, Imp) on lateral cephalographs and obtain 8 angular and linear measurements(ANB, SNPog, SN-GoMe, Imp-B, Imp-Pog, B-Pog//GoMe, $GoMe{\bot}B$, $GoMe{\bot}Pog$). Among 8 measurements, ANB, SNPog, SN-GoMe, B-Pog//GoMe, $GoMe{\bot}B$ showed statistically significant growth changes at various stages of skeletal maturation according to CVM method, while there were no significant differences on Imp-B, Imp-Pog, $GoMe{\bot}Pog$. The results suggest that the increasing prominence of human chin is greatly influenced by the vertical growth of B point area, in addition to the change and growth in chin and mandible proper.

The Association between Facial Morphology and Cold Pattern

  • Objectives: Facial diagnosis is an important part of clinical diagnosis in traditional East Asian Medicine. In this paper, using a fully automated facial shape analysis system, we show that facial morphological features are associated with cold pattern. Methods: The facial morphological features calculated from 68 facial landmarks included the angles, areas, and distances between the landmark points of each part of the face. Cold pattern severity was determined using a questionnaire and the cold pattern scores (CPS) were used for analysis. The association between facial features and CPS was calculated using Pearson's correlation coefficient and partial correlation coefficients. Results: The upper chin width and the lower chin width were negatively associated with CPS. The distance from the center point to the middle jaw and the distance from the center point to the lower jaw were negatively associated with CPS. The angle of the face outline near the ear and the angle of the chin line were positively associated with CPS. The area of the upper part of the face and the area of the face except the sensory organs were negatively associated with CPS. The number of facial morphological features that exhibited a statistically significant correlation with CPS was 37 (unadjusted). Conclusions: In this study of a Korean population, subjects with a high CPS had a more pointed chin, longer face, more angular jaw, higher eyes, and more upward corners of the mouth, and their facial sensory organs were relatively widespread.

Three-dimensional morphometric analysis of facial units in virtual smiling facial images with different smile expressions

  • PURPOSE. Accuracy of image matching between resting and smiling facial models is affected by the stability of the reference surfaces. This study aimed to investigate the morphometric variations in subdivided facial units during resting, posed and spontaneous smiling. MATERIALS AND METHODS. The posed and spontaneous smiling faces of 33 adults were digitized and registered to the resting faces. The morphological changes of subdivided facial units at the forehead (upper and lower central, upper and lower lateral, and temple), nasal (dorsum, tip, lateral wall, and alar lobules), and chin (central and lateral) regions were assessed by measuring the 3D mesh deviations between the smiling and resting facial models. The one-way analysis of variance, Duncan post hoc tests, and Student's t-test were used to determine the differences among the groups (α = .05). RESULTS. The smallest morphometric changes were observed at the upper and central forehead and nasal dorsum; meanwhile, the largest deviation was found at the nasal alar lobules in both the posed and spontaneous smiles (P < .001). The spontaneous smile generally resulted in larger facial unit changes than the posed smile, and significant difference was observed at the alar lobules, central chin, and lateral chin units (P < .001). CONCLUSION. The upper and central forehead and nasal dorsum are reliable areas for image matching between resting and smiling 3D facial images. The central chin area can be considered an additional reference area for posed smiles; however, special cautions should be taken when selecting this area as references for spontaneous smiles.

Changes of symphysis morphology after chincup treatment (이모장치 착용 후 하악 이부의 헝태변화)

  • Although it is well known that the chincup, used to correct a skeletal class III malocclusion in growing children, reduce the mandibular prognathism by arresting the growth of the mandibular length and rotating the mandible posteroinferiorly, the majority of the studies about chincup is focused on condylar head that plays an Important role in mandibular growth. The aim of this study was to evaluate the morphologic change of the mandibular symphysis where extraoral force is applied directly during chincup treatment. The data lot this study were obtained from lateral cephalometric radiographs of 62 growing children(chincup group:32, control group:30) with mixed dentition who had been accepted lot the orthodontic treatment at Chonbuk National University Dental Hospital. The results were as follows : 1. Symphysis height was increased both in chincup therapy group and control group during treatment. Symphysis depth was decreased or maintained the initial values in chin cup therapy group, whereas increased in control group. Posterior symphysis depth was decreased both in chin cup therapy group and control group, but anterior svmphysis detph was increased in control group, whereas decreased in chincup therapy group. 2. Chin depth and chin curvature were increased in control group, whereas maintained or decreased in chincup therapy group during treatment. Chin angle, menton ang1e and symphysis angle were decreased in control group, whereas increased in chincup therapy group. It suggested that bone deposition in pogonion area that occur normally with mandibular growth was supressed by direct contact of chincup. 3. When growing children wear chincup, symphysis morphology was maintained due to inhibition of forward growth at mandibular symphysis. It may be due to the suppression of bone deposition in anterior part of symphysis.

Lower facial contouring surgery using a novel method: M-genioplasty

  • Background Mandibular contouring surgery to produce a more slender and small face has become popular, especially in East Asia. Narrowing genioplasty should be simultaneously performed with mandibular angle resection to achieve satisfactory results. In Korea, T-genioplasty has been frequently performed for chin narrowing. The authors developed a new, safe, and reliable method, termed M-genioplasty, that can provide a more slender and attractive lower face. Methods From June 2013 to December 2017, 36 patients underwent M-genioplasty with mandibular angle resection for lower facial contouring. Horizontal and vertical osteotomies were performed obliquely. The resected bone segments were wedge-shaped. The remaining two bone segments were rotated and approximated centrally. The lateral mandible bony step-off was trimmed off for mandibular angle resection. Results In all patients, the facial contour sufficiently improved, and most patients were satisfied with the outcome. No severe complications took place during postoperative follow-up. Conclusions M-genioplasty can provide more mandibular angle resection and can create a more acute chin angle without bone resorption than other methods, including T-genioplasty. M-genioplasty with mandibular angle resection is a safer, more accurate, and more reliable method for lower facial contouring.

A Study on Chinese Noodles (중국(中國)의 면조문화연구(麵條文化硏究))

  • The purpose of this study is to understand the Chinese noodles(mian tiao). Wheat seems to have been cultivated 3-4,000 years before according to the archaeological evidences from the neolithic sites. The five grains(rice, millet, beans, barley, barnyard millet) already appeared in the period prior to Chin dynasty and were used as whole grain, but it was not until Chun Chu Zhan Guo period that the introduction of the flouring method stimulated the cultivation of wheat. In Chin-Han period, when water power and animal force were put into usage to facilitate the mass production of wheat flour, 'Bing', a designation for all the food made of wheat first appeared in the literature, and it was this 'Bing' that had later developed into noodles. In Wei Chin Nan Bei Chao period, roasted 'Bing', namely 'Kao-Bing' made its first appearance, and in Tang period, various noodles were created with the increase of restaurants specialized in noodles. In Song dynasty, 'La-Mian', the noodles stretched and beat from noodle dough, was first introduced, and in Yuan period, invention of drying method made the appearance of dried noodles, 'Gua-Mian', possible, which was good for easy and long preservation. Qing dynasty developed the noodles with a variety of assorted ingredients. The Chinese noodles are classified by various standards such as main ingredients, cooking methods, kinds of sauce, secondary ingredients, shape, eating method, flavor, and look.
