This paper describes a design strategy at conceptual design stage using RETScreen software tool for building application of renewable energy resources. Currently, government and public buildings are required to adopt renewable energy systems with a minimum requirement for the amount of renewable energy supply. Meanwhile, there is a certificate program for private office buildings to enhance propagation of renewable energy systems. When considering application of renewable energy systems to a building, it is worthwhile developing a method to determine optimal design sizes of renewable energy systems. In the paper, a design strategy is introduced with a couple of case studies to determine optimal capacities of each renewable energy system in a building and suggest to use the method to evaluate the system for the building certificate program and the mandatory renewable target program. Objective functions considered in the study are initial system cost and reduction of CO2 emissions from the system. In the optimization study, it is assumed that solar thermal collectors are installed to satisfy solar fraction of 60%. Other renewable energy systems such as ground-source heat pump, solar PV and non-renewable systems such as electric chiller and gas-fired boiler are sized using an optimal sizing method with RETScreen suggested the authors previously.
To investigate the epidemiological trait of listeriosis, Listeria spp were isolated from poultry meat, products and environmental specimens in chicken slaughterhouse. Also determined were isolation rates by the different enrichment procedures, the biochemical properties of isolates. In a total of 307 samples including poultry meat, liver, feathers, feces, chiller water, scalding water overflow and slaughterhouse floor, Listeria spp were isolated predominantly from scalding water overflow (90.0%), body skin before washing (66.7%), liver (20.0%) and feathers(15.0%) However, few Listeria spp were isolated from body skin after washing and feces. The higher isolation rates were obtained in the secondary enrichment procedure (7.2%) than in the primary enrichment (3.9%); after stored the secondary enrichment cultures for 2 weeks at $4^{\circ}C$, Listeria spp were present in 9.8%. The majority of the isolated Listeria spp were identical to those of the standards strains in biochemical and cultural properties. Overall, Listeria spp were present in 13.4% of the specimens tested, and were in order of prevalence of L innocua(11.1%), L monocytogenes(3.3%), L grayi(0.7%) and L murrayi(0.3%).

Applying a general coupled lateral and torsional vibration finite element model of gear pair element, this paper intends to look into in detail the coupled lateral and torsional vibration characteristics of a turbo-chiller rotor bearing system, having a bull-pinion speed increasing gear. Investigations have been carried out systematically by comparing the uncoupled and coupled natural frequencies and their mode shapes upon varying the gear mesh stiffness with considerations on rotating speeds, and also by comparing the strain energies of lateral and torsional vibration modes. Results hale shown that some modes may hale the coupled lateral and torsional mode characteristics as the gear mesh stiffness Increases over a certain value, and moreover that their associated dominant modes may be different from their initial modes, j.e., a certain dominant mode may change from an initial torsional one to a lateral one or from an initial lateral one to a torsional one.

The objectives of this paper are to study the characteristics of pool boiling heat transfer for enhanced tubes used in the evaporator of turbo chiller and to provide a guideline for optimum design of an evaporator using HFC134a. Three different enhanced tubes are tested at 4 different saturation temperatures. The wall super heated temperature difference ranges from $0.5^{\circ}C\;to\;3.5^{\circ}C$. The refrigerant, HFC134a evaporates on the outside of the tube while the chilled water flows inside the tube. This study provides experimental heat transfer coefficients for evaporation on the enhanced tubes. It is found that the turbo-II tube provides the highest heat transfer coefficient.

This research is concerned with the enhancement of heat transfer by surfactant added to the aqueous solution of LiBr. Different vertical tubes were tested with and without an additive of normal octyl alcohol. The test tubes are a bare tube, a groove tube, a corrugated tube and a spring-inserted tube. The additive concentration is about 0.08 mass%. The heat transfer coefficient is measured as a function of the film Reynolds number in the range of 20~200. Experiments are carried out at higher cooling water temperature of $35^{\circ}C$to simulate an air cooling condition for several kinds of absorber testing tubes. The experimental results with and without surfactant are compared. The enhancement of heat transfer by Marangoni convection effect which is generated by addition of the surfactant is observed in each test tube. Especially, it is clarified that the tube with an spring-inserted has the enhancement effect.

This study presents a numerical investigation of the heat and mass transfer kinetics of a fin-tube-type adsorption bed using a two-dimensional numerical model with silica-gel and water as the adsorbent and refrigerant pair. The performance is strongly affected by the heat and mass transfer in the adsorption bed, but the details of the mass transfer kinetics remain unclear. The validity of inter-particle models used to simulate mass-transfer kinetics were examined, such as a constant pressure model and non-constant pressure model, and the valid ranges of the diffusion ratio for each model are proposed. The COP and SCP have been numerically calculated as the performance indexes according to the diffusion ratio. The constant pressure model, which is commonly used in previous research, was found to be valid only in a limited range of diffusion ratio.

The purpose of this study is to make an economic analysis(Life cycle cost) of selecting optimal air conditioning system for a research building which is 8 stories with a total floor area of $32,010m^2$. Energy consumptions of three proposed air-conditioning systems(Alt-1,2,3) that reflect the government green-growth policy are calculated and compared. The results show that life cycle cost of Alt-3(Ventilation DX AHU+EHP) is less than Alt-1(EHP+ventilation DX AHU) by 5.1%, and Alt-2(Absorption chiller/heater+EHP) by 34.3%. Annual energy consumption of Alt-3 is less than Alt-1 by 9.9%, and Alt-2 by 37.4%. Annual $CO_2$ emission of Alt-3 is less than Alt-1 by 9.9%, and Alt-2 by 0.2%.

The paper describes development and evaluation of a simple method for determining gradient of modified linear setpoint variation to reduce peak electrical cooling demand in buildings using building precooling and setpoint adjustment. The method is an approximated approach for minimizing electrical cooling demand during occupied period in buildings and involves modified linear adjustment of cooling setpoint temperature between $26^{\circ}C$ and $28^{\circ}C$. The gradient of linear variation or final time of linear increase is determined based on the cooling load shape in conventional cooling control having a constant setpoint temperature. The potential to reduce peak cooling demand using the simple method was evaluated through building simulation for a calibrated office building model considering four different weather conditions. The simple method showed about 30% and 20% in terms of reducing peak cooling demand and chiller power consumption, respectively, compared to the conventional control.
The objective of this study is to find the optimal set-point of a hybrid Plant, which is combined by renewable energy plant of the GSHP(Ground Source Heat Pump) and the conventional plant(chiller, boiler). The work presented in this study was carried out by using the EnergyPlus(Version 2.0). In order to validate the simulation model, field data were measured from a building. The GSHP was used as a base plant and the conventional plant as the assistant plant. Various temperatures were controlled (zone summer set-point, zone winter set-point, chilled water temperature, hot water temperature) to find the optimal set-point temperature of the system. The influence of the various set-points were analyzed seasonally.

In Korea, air source heat pump system is less efficient than conventional heat source facilities, such as ground source, river water, because the air temperature in winter season is so low that COP of air source heat pump system drops below 3.0. Therefore, the study on the application of heat pump heating and cooling systems is crucial for the efficient popularization of heat pump. In this work, we present the dynamic analysis of energy consumption for the large resident building by heat resistance-capacitance method. The system simulation of water storage air source heat pump is additionally performed by changing of sizes and locations of the hospital building. The computed results show that energy cost of water storage air source heat pump is low, so it is more economical than absorption chiller & heater.
