  • The purpose of this study is to review the characteristics of the policy for supporting child care and education in Korea. In order to suggest the theoretical and practical issues for child care and education policy, it is necessary to evaluate the existing policies. Based on the review of the literature, the legal system, and the policy, the child care support system in Korea is evaluated to be fragmentary and inconsistent. And Korean child care policy is a mixture of the conservative and the liberal one. In order to meet the needs of the family and children of Korea, more progress approach to child care policy is needed. The suggestions of this study are to have Korean government give more weight on societal care of children, introduce children's allowance, integrating child care and education system and developing policy monitoring systems in Korea.

  • Participants in this study of variables that contribute to child abuse were parents of 1,094 families with children under the age of 18. The instrument, Straus's Parent-Child Conflict Tactics Scales(1998), consists of 3 subscales : physical abuse, emotional abuse, and neglect. The degree of child abuse varied by age of child and parents, parents' marital satisfaction, the stress of bringing up children, social support, and family setting. There was a higher tendency to child abuse among alcoholic parents, dissatisfaction with marriage, parental child rearing stress, and isolation from social support. Educational and social welfare suggestions were made for the prevention and treatment of child abuse.

  • Objectives: The purpose of this study is to analyze the co-author networks in the Journal of the Korean Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, a representative journal published by a branch of the domestic psychiatric academy, in order to present the current state of the co-authoring of and developments in child and adolescent psychiatry. Methods: We visualized and estimated the basic characteristics of the co-author networks shown by 564 authors who wrote 251 papers published in the Journal of the Korean Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry between 2005 and 2015, in order to assess their network characteristics, author centrality, and relevance to research performance. Results: The co-author networks in the Journal of the Korean Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry showed the characteristics of a small world and scale-free network. There was a correlation between the author centrality within the network and the research performance of the authors, but less correlation was shown between the centrality and mean paper citation counts. Conclusion: The network structure in the Journal of the Korean Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry showed similarity to the co-authoring of other branches. However, given that the mean paper citation counts were less correlated with the author centrality than those in other branches, it may be necessary to promote an increase in the mean paper citation counts.

  • The purpose of this study was to identify the patterns of coping with marital conflict and child-rearing stress among mothers of young children. The participants were 166 mothers of children who were between 3 years and 7 years of age, living in the North Kyongsang Province. Paired t-test, ANOVA, Scheffe' test, Pearson's correlation and partial correlation analyses were conducted for this study. The results of this study were as follows. (1) In those situations where the participants experienced marital conflict and child-rearing stress, they were more likely to use an avoidance coping strategy than an approach coping strategy. (2) Among the mothers who were experiencing marital conflict or child-rearing stress, the group that suffered a higher level of stress was more likely to employ an avoidance coping strategy. However, there were no differences in the approach coping behavior by the level of stress. (3) When the level of marital conflict and child-rearing stress were controlled, approach coping behavior with marital conflict was still moderately correlated with approach coping behavior with child-rearing stress.

Method: Using home visits, data were collected from 100 poverty stricken mothers, 51 in the extremely poor group and 49 in the low income group, and 200 mothers of a general group being seen in one public health center. The instrument used for this study was a self-report questionnaire to identify maternal health variables including child rearing burden and social support. Results: Parent's education level, marital status, and primary caregiver were significantly different according to socioeconomic status. Poverty stricken groups showed poor rates for prenatal checkups, lower Fe supplementation, and more artificial abortions and history of cesarean section. Continuing breast feeding as planned was significantly lower for mothers with low economic status. Present health problems of the mother, child-rearing burden, and social support were not significantly different among the three groups. Conclusion: These findings suggest that special attention and interventions for the poverty stricken groups is important to improve maternal and child health status.

  • This study examines the characteristics of the online child-rearing community launched by the voluntary motivations of consumers, and the effects of those characteristics on community loyalty and the intentions to buy baby wear via community sites. The study was implemented by a descriptive survey method using an online questionnaire. The sample consisted of 212 members of online child-rearing communities. The data were analyzed by frequency, factor analysis, and regression analysis. Results are as follows. 1) It was found that there were four major factors of online child-rearing community characteristics, such as attachment/pleasure, practical/economy, interaction, and information. 2) All four factors had significant effects on community loyalty. 3) The factor attachment/pleasure had no significant effects on intentions to buy baby wear, but practical/economy, interaction and information had effects upon those intentions. 4) Loyalty to the online child-rearing community had significant effects on the intentions of community members to buy baby wear via the community site. In addition, online child-rearing community members are interested in information regarding baby wear as well as its purchase; this is why baby wear makers should perform cost efficient consumer group segmentation in a timely manner. In addition, it will be effective for their marketing activities to target such consumer groups as segmented.

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship among child care teachers' personal characteristics, resilience, and social support. The subjects in this study were 154 child care teachers working in Gangwon province. The resilience questionnaire(Jung Hyun Lee, 2013) revised from KRQT-52(Korean Resilience Quotient Test) and the perceived social support scale(Lee Jae-Young, 2012) were used for this study. For the research analysis, frequency, Cronbach's ${\alpha}$ coefficient, and Pearson's correlation were calculated and ANOVA test, Scheff$\acute{e}$ post-hoc analysis, and regression analysis were conducted. The results are as follows. Firstly, it was revealed that child care teachers' experiences, age, marital status, and type of child care center had a statistically meaningful difference in resilience. In contrast, teachers' educational backgrounds did not have a meaningful difference in resilience. Secondly, all the sub-variables of teacher's perceived social support had a positive statistically significant correlation with all sub-variables of their resilience. Thirdly, physical support of child care teachers' perceived social support had statistically meaningful positive influences on the positive characteristics and the overall resilience. Also evaluative support of child care teachers' perceived social support had statistically meaningful positive influences on the interpersonal skills, self-regulation, positive characteristics, and the overall resilience of resilience. In conclusion, the results indicated that it is needed to strengthen child care teachers' perceived social support for enhancing resilience, taking into account the background characteristics of individual teachers.
