In order to improve the quality of student teachers' practicum, this study analysed the current situation of student teachers' field practice in child care centers. The study also assessed the practicum implementation case of H Cyber University. First, this research examined the characteristics of practicum implementation in universities. Second, a variety of strategies based on a blended model, on/off-line lectures, professor-student interaction, university-daycare centers collaboration, e-mentoring, and student teachers' portfolios that reduce the problems of student teachers' training, were explored. Finally, the practicum implementation case that adopted these factors was assessed. The results from this case study implied that student teachers' practicums based on a blended model can be an alternative method for problem-solving in existing student teachers' training in universities.
This study has been carried out to suggest an improvement measure by analysing the current situation of the working condition for the teachers in child care. For this, governmental policy and law and relevant references in relation to the working conditions for the teachers have been collected for analysis. On the basis of the research, in order to improve the working condition for the teachers the following suggestions have been made: provision of salary system considered the level of qualification criteria and academic certificate, carrying out a raise in pay according to the salary class, requirement of written indication of a provision of allowance, increase of the initial salary for the principal of nurseries, observance of legislation for payment of excess duty allowance, elucidation of legislation for the salary of the teacher in unsupported nurseries and settlement of ratio of supporting personnel expenses from government.
The purpose of this study was to investigate whether there is any difference between the dual residence couples and the single residence couples in terms of the situation of child care, development of their child and mother's parenting guilty or parenting stress. Also, this study aimed to explore the variables which influence parenting guilty and parenting stress of dual residence mothers. The 178 mothers of three to eight tear-old participated the survey. Half of them were dual residence mothers and another half were those of single residence. These two groups were matched in terms of the occupation of the mother and the age of the child. Major finding were as follows. 1) Compared with single residence couples, dual residence couples used multiple methods of child care. And they depended maternal families more than paternal ones as a care-giver. They also payed much more for the child care than single residence couples. 2) Children of the dual residence couples did not differ with those of the single residence couples in terms of cognitive and social development. 3) Dual residence mothers had more parenting guilty than those of single residence while these two groups did not differ in terms of parenting stress. 4) While dual residence mother's parenting guilty was significantly related with the amount of information provided by the paternal families, their parenting stress was significantly related with the frequencies of communicating with the husband, the mother's age, the flexibility of time in the mother's work place, the mother's orientation to the career, and the supports of the husband. In conclusion, dual residence families in Korea were not so negative as expected. Furthermore, this study suggests that the parenting difficulties of the dual residence mothers could be decreased by the change of social and economic situations and the psycho-social support of the husband.
The purpose of this study was to verify preschool children can be classified of Attention-Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) children across situation. It also was to examine differences among groups according to sex and age, and to investigate the family caracterisitcs of ADHD groups. The subjects of this study consisted of 228 preschool chilren (147 boys and 136 girls aged from 3- to 7- year-old) drawn from five Child Care Centers in Chung-Ju. Data were analyzed by the frequency, percentages, Cronbach's ${\alpha}$ coefficient, ${\chi}^2$-test, F-test, Tukey post-hoc test, and Pearson correlation using SAS program. The results were as follows: 1. Preschool children could be classified by four diagnostic groups across situation; (1) 168 children (59%) of the control group (no disorder of ADHD), (2) 49 children (17%) of ADHD-Home group (ADHD only at home), (3) 43 children (15%) of ADHD-School group (ADHD only at school), and (4) 23 children (8%) of ADHD-PH group (ADHD both at home and at school). Ratings by parents and by teachers correlated very low with each other, as in previous studies. These results confirm the findings that ADHD be classified across situation. 2. There were significant differences among four groups according to sex and age. In the ADHD-PH groups, the boys is 3 times higher than the girls and the children aged 6- to 7-year-old was shown highly distributed in the pervasive ADHD.
The purpose of this study is to develop a copyright education program for the directors and teachers in kindergartens and day care centers. In this study, these programs were developed based on the actual situation of knowledge, copyright education requirements, and professional opinions. In this way, a copyright education programs were designed. Through the program, the directors and teachers were trained on the subject. Then, the overall evaluation was carried out through an open questionnaire and in-depth interview. Through this evaluation, the program was modified. These programs were made up of education purposes, education objectives, education contents, education methods, operating methods, and education evaluation. Education content was intended to be educated through examples from kindergartens and day care centers.
Purpose: This study was to investigate the stress of parents while they were rearing their children. Method: This study reviewed the preceding research related to parents' stress and breeding stress with consideration of modem society, family system and parents' role. Results: In the parent-child relationship, parents feel stressed when they found it difficult to come up with an expectation to the parents' role of rearing child. Therefore, considering the health of parents and children, it is important to mediate parents who are under stress. Moreover, since parents cannot handle this problem all alone, it should be discussed and solved not only by individual but also by family, and further by social context. The parent-child relationship in early infancy is a core element to the development of an individual. Parents have influence on a child's development the most and play a big role. In particular, many parents these days believe that parent-child relationship is changing in a democratic way and a couple breeds their child together. However, in reality, the relationship has not been changed and is even regarded as more difficult situation than it was in the traditional society. Parents are oppressed with not being adapted to social changes and advance, and child also feels the same. Conclusion: Parents need education and support for child rearing without having any stresses. Health care provider consider this issues and to build a healthy parent-child relationship by helping parents.
This study investigated preschool children's script knowledge according to task situation and socioeconomic status. Subjects were seventy-eight 5-year-old children (38 low- and 40 middle-income children; 36 boys and 42 girls) recruited from three day-care centers in Seoul. Each child participated in the script knowledge assessment session. Assessment of script knowledge consisted of a picture-recognition and picture-sequencing task. Statistical methods used for data analysis were means, standard deviations, repeated measures ANOVA. Results showed that children's script knowledge scores were higher in familiar task situation than in unfamiliar task situation. Furthermore, middle-income children had higher scores of script knowledge than low-income children. Findings of this study indicate that there is the difference of script knowledge between low- and middle-income preschoolers.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify the current status and needs in neonatal emergency training for nursing students in Korea and to obtain preliminary information to develop a simulation based educational program on neonatal emergency care for nursing students. Methods: Structured questionnaires were distributed to five hospitals and ten nursing schools during April and May, 2012. Data were collected from 59 nurses who worked in the nursery or Neonatal Intensive Care Units and 13 nursing educators who had specialized in pediatric nursing. Results: Most nurses (86.4%) reported that they had experienced an emergency situation with newborns. Most nursing educators (84.6%) claimed that more intensive training with newborns is needed for nursing students. In particular, training in neonatal resuscitation (72.2%), respiratory distress (59.7%), and neonatal seizures (18.1%) were highly recommended as simulation based training for nursing students. Conclusion: A significant need for neonatal emergency educational programs was found. More efforts should be made to provide nursing students with knowledge and skills for working with neonates. The findings of this survey will ultimately provide a basis for developing a simulation based educational program on neonatal emergency care for nursing students.
This study explored the contents of young children's verbal communications with their teachers in play situations. Participants were 2- to 6-year-old children. Results of observations showed 10 different verbal categories : making demands, asking questions, boasting, complementing the teacher, gaining recognition from the teacher, telling tales, explaining, making suggestions, asking permission, and insisting on one's own way. The five categories most frequently observed in older children were demanding, asking questions, boasting, explaining, and insisting on one's own way. Teachers were advised to prepare to respond more effectively to the variety of young children's verbal communication with their teachers.
Stress is experienced when a person tries to maintain stability in the face of life change but is not able to meet the adaptive demands of change. This can be especially true for the parents who has a cerebral palsy childs who needs long term rare, where parents, are the primary source of care and responsibility. Successful coping leads to maintenance of the parents role and this has an effect on the health status of the child. This descriptive study was attempted to identify stress factors, levels and helpful coping patterns for parents who must take care of cerebral palsy children. Data were collected from 43 subjects who were parents of children diagnosed with cerebral palsy The informations gathered from March 25, 1994 to April 14, 1994 by means of structured questionnaires were analyzed. Two instruments were used to collect the data 1) Lee's stress questionnaire consisted of 33 stress factors and measured by four point Likert scale. 2) Modified Chronic Health Inventory for parents: The modified CHIP included 43 items of coping methods with four point Likert scale. The results of this study were as follows: 1) Stress items could have a maximum score of three points, for a total possible score of 132 points. The mean score for the total was 92.02 points. The item mean score was 2.85 points showing that the parents were experiencing moderate to much stress. 2) The items with the highest stress items were 16 items. The stress items with the lowest mean scores were 10 items. 3) Of the stress categories: The highest stress category was related to changes in the illness status of the child and difficulty in taking rare of the child. The second stressful category was related to the prognosis of the child's condition. The least stress was noticed to social-personal relationships and the responsibility of the care givers. 4) Items measuring coping in the parents had a maximum score of three points each with a total possible roping score of 172 points. The mean score for the total was 103,9 paints. The item mean score was 2.42 points indicating that there were responses of little helpful to moderately helpful on each coping pattern. 5) The most helpful coping items were 7 items. The least helpful coping items were 2 items. 6) Effectiveness of the coping for each patterns was examined : Understanding the illness condition from communication with parents of children with the same condition and consultation with the medical team was the most helpful coping pattern. Family's coorperation and integration and optimism were a moderately helpful coping pattern. Social support psychological stability and self esteem were the least helpful toping pattern. In conclusion, the highest stress for parents of children with cerebropalsy was found to be very stressful changes in the illness of the child and to taking care of a child who is suffering. The parents were helped by the coping methods using understanding of the illness condition through consultation with the medical learn and communication with parents in the same situation. Based on the knowledge, care could develop intervention strategies appropriate for them, help them to develop their effective coping patterns, and give support them in the process of coping with their stress.
