  • Non-Lorentyian resonance is predicted to occur in two-photon photoabsorption processes due to the detuning off the intermediate levels. This type of non-Lorentzian resonance is distinct from the asymmetric resonance resulting from the effects of q uantum interference between competing indistinguishable dynamic pathways. The product distributions are shown to be constant near this type of resonance.

  • Sole in the footwear usually modified with foaming agent on the polymer resin to improve the lightweightness and crush-cushion effect. In this study, we investigated rheological properties for polymer resin filled with the different type and concentration of foaming agent, capsule type foaming agent and organo-chemical foaming agent, under the time sweep test. Curing times of each polymer resin with different kind of foaming agent are delayed than reference material (epoxy resin with curing agent). In case of adding capsule type foaming agent, however, there is appropriate concentration to reduce the curing time, relatively. When foaming agent is activated, foaming force inflates the sample in contrast to condensation force of curing and then axial normal force develop to the (+) direction. Interestingly, by increase concentration of foaming agent, there is a specific point to break down the axial normal force development. The reason for this phenomenon is that coalescence of foams induce the blocking of axial normal force development.

  • The purpose of this study was to compare the bond strengths of different kinds of glass ionomer cements (GIC), which is recently increasing the clinical application in the field of pediatric dentistry and measure the repaired bond strengths in order to examine the clinical applicabilty of partial repaired cases. By using one kind of the light cured type GIC and three kinds of the chemical cured type GIC, the bond strengths of the followings were compared : unrepaired group as control, repaired conditioning group, which was treated the repaired surface using 25% polyacrylic acid and repaired non-conditioning group without surface treatment. Three point bending test was performed under Universal Testing Machine in order to measure the compressive bond strengths. The results were as follows : 1. Light cured GIC had higher bond strength than chemical cured type GIC in both of repaired and unrepaired groups. 2. In repaired cases, all of the materials decreased the bond strength when compared to the control group. In the light cured type, the bond strength of repaired conditioning group decreased 31.6%, repaired non-conditioning group decreased 40.8%. In chemical cured types, the bond strength of repaired conditining group decreased 11.8%, repaired non-conditioning group decreased 20.9%. 3. All the materials, in the case of the chemical treatment on the repaired surface using 25% polyacrylic acid had higher bond strength than untreated but, lower than control group.

  • Steers (n = 335) of known genetic background from four fundamentally different growth types were subjected to two production systems to study differences in cooking loss (CL), tenderness, and chemical composition. Growth types were animals with genetic potential for large mature weight-late maturing (LL), intermediate mature weight-late maturing (IL), intermediate mature weight -early maturing (IE), and small mature weight-early maturing (SE). Each year, in a nine-year study, calves of each growth type were weaned and five steers of each growth type were developed on pasture or feedlot and harvested at approximately 20 and 14 mo of age, respectively. Data collected were CL and Warner-Bratzler shear force (WBS) for the Longissimus dorsi (LM), Psoas major (PS), and Quadriceps femoris (QF) muscles. Chemical composition was also determined from the right fore- and hindquarter. Data were analyzed using least squares analysis of variance for unequal subclass numbers. The beef growth $type{\times}production$ system interaction was significant for CL and WBS of the LM and ash in the lean trim of the forequarter. Growth types of LL and IL had greater (p<0.05) mean percentage CL in the PS and QF muscles than did IE and SE steers. Growth type LL had the highest (p<0.05) mean for both moisture and protein in the fore- and hindquarters; while SE had the lowest numerical mean value for moisture and protein in the fore- and hindquarters. Shear force of the PS did not differ (p>0.05) among steers of the four growth types. Increasing challenges to the cattle feeding industry may dictate that pasture development play a larger role in future production regimes. Producers should strive to match genetic growth type with available resources in order to remain viable and continue producing a quality product.
