  • Carbon nanotubes (CNTs) have been the subject of intensive studies for applications in the fields of nano technologies in recent years due to their superior mechanical, electric, optical and electronic properties. Because of their exceptionally small diameters (${\appros}\;several\;nm$) as well as their high Young's modulus (${\appros}1\;TPa$), tensile strength (${\appros}\;200\;GPa$) and high elongation (10-30%) in addition to a high chemical stability, CNTs are attractive reinforcement materials for light weight and high strength metal matrix composites. Although extensive researches have been performed on the electrical, mechanical and functional properties of CNTs, there are not many successful results on the mechanical properties of CNT dispersed nanocomposites. In this paper, we applied equal channel angular pressing for consolidation of CNT/Cu powder mixtures. We also investigated the hardness and microstructures of CNT/Cu nanocomposites used experimental for metal matrix composites.

  • The degradation of reinforced concrete (RC) structures due to physical and chemical attacks has been a major issue in construction engineering. Deterioration of RC structures due to chloride attack followed by reinforcement corrosion is one of the serious problems. The objective of this study is to develop a form of mathematical model of chloride ingress into concrete. In order to overcome some limits of the previous approaches, a mathematical model of chloride ingress into concrete consisting of chloride solution intrusion through the capillary pore and chloride ion diffusion through the pore water was proposed. Moreover, the variability of diffusivity of chloride ion due to degree of hydration of concrete, relative humidity in pore, exposure condition, and variation of chloride binding was considered in the chloride ingress model.

  • The corrosion of steel reinforcing bar(re-bar) has been the major cause of the reinforced concrete deterioration. FRP(Fiber-reinforced polymer) reinforcing bar has emerged as one of the most promising and affordable solutions to the corrosion problems of steel reinforcement in structural concrete. In this study, long-term durability performance of FRP re-bar were evaluated. The mechanical and durability properties of two type of CFRP- and GFRP re-bar were investigated; the FRP re-bars were subjected to alkaline solution, acid solution, salt solution and deionized water. The mechanical and durability properties were investigated by performing tensile and short beam tests. Experimental results confirmed the desirable resistance of FRP re-bar to aggressive chemical environment.

  • This is green roof bottom system which composed by aluminum valve and glass fiber together as major reinforcement, so the cooper sheet can have root proof, and using recycled tire gel-type membrane waterproofing system which dost not contains VOCs. The copper sheet reduce the plants' root growing, so it helpes to maintain the waterproofing layer and stability of root proofing. Gel type membrane waterproofing system can do waterproofing, stress dispersion, and reducing leakage expansion. So those two materials can help each other to make green roof bottom layer would have the stability and durability.

  • The relationship between strain and applied potential was derived for composite actuators consisting single-wall carbon nanotubes (SWNTs) and conductive polymers (CPs). During deriving the relationship, an electrochemical ionic approach is utilized to formulate the electromechanical actuation of the composite film actuator. The results show that the well-aligned SWNTs composite actuator can give good actuation responses and high actuating forces available. The actuation is found to be affected by both SWNTs and CPs components and the actuation of SWNTs component has two kinds of influences on that of the CPs component: reinforcement at the positive voltage and abatement at the negative voltage. CNT/EAP was fabricated successfully using the chemical polymerization method.

  • Salt water spray test and salt water immersion test were experimentally conducted in order to investigate the durability of fiber reinforced composites under salt water environment. The specimens were made of glass fabric reinforcement and phenolic resin. Mechanical test was performed to obtain mechanical properties such as tensile properties, flexural properties, and shear properties by varying with exposure times. Also dynamic mechanical test and FTIR were conducted to investigate a change in chemical structure as well as thermal analysis properties such as storage shear modulus, loss shear moduls, and tan ${\delta}$. According to the results, salt water environment has effected on mechanical properties and thermal analysis properties and especially the durability of glass fabric/phenolic composites were severely affected on salt water immersion environment rather than salt water spray environment.

  • In the case of the geosynthetics usage to soil structure, there are some damages by compaction. And these damages by the installation compaction result in the unexpected changes of short and long term properties of the structure. So in the case of index test, there are some problems to the exact evaluation on the installation damage. Therefore, to the more definite evaluation on the installation damage of geosynthetics, the real site installation damage test is encouraged. (omitted)

  • Most chemical companies try to maximize their energy efficiencies due to high oil price and reinforcement of environmental regulation. An individual factory continuously has tried to reduce energy consumption or carbon dioxide discharge for high profit. Nevertheless, it is found that waste heat is disposed with forms of low or medium pressure steams. It can be improved by the aspect of entire industrial complex. Therefore, we have developed a steam network optimization method using Steam Networking Matrices(SNMs) in this research. Results from an illustrative example show that energy consumption can be reduced by optimizing steam exchange networks.

  • The corrosion of steel reinforcements in concrete is of great concern in recent years. This study is focused on the corrosion behavior of steel bars induced by internal chlorides in concrete at early ages. The main objective of this study is to determine the chloride thresholds causing depassivation and active corrosion of steel reinforcement in concrete. To examine the threshold concentration of chloride ion, the half-cell potential, chemical composition of expressed pore solutions of concrete and the rate of corosion area of the specimens were measured. Major variables include the added amount of chlorides in concrete, types of binders, and water-to-binder ration. From the present comprehensive experimental results, the factors influencing chloride-induced corrosion are investigated, and the chloride thresholds causing active corrosion of steel bars are proposed. The present study will enable to specify the realistic chloride limit in concrete which can be used in the future technical specification.
