  • In this study, the possibility of a quartz crystal micro-balance(QCM) modification of crystallization of L-Penicillamine and D-Penicillamine with a Vapor Diffused Molecular Assembly Technique and its application to the R-(-)-Mandelic acid and S-(+)- Mandelic acid measurement was investigated. The 3-dimensional structures of L-Penicillamine and D-Penicillamine on the surface of QCM were verified to be different from each other through QCM and AFM analyses. The D-Penicillamine modified QCM had specific recognition to the R-(-)-Mandelic acid, but L-Penicillamine modified QCM had no specificity to the R-(-)-Mandelic acid and S-(+)- Mandelic acid. From these results, it was known that the QCM could be modified with various selective meterials via VDMA, and the chiral isomer such as a Mandelic acid isomer could be detected by using a modified QCM.

  • The Biochemical Oxygen Demand(BOD) is one of important parameters for the most widely used method of organic pollution in wastewater and wastewater treatment effluent. As the conventional BOD test needs 5-day long incubation period, it is thus incompatible with real time control of wastewater treatment plant. To resolve this problem, in the present study an on-line Dissolved Oxygen(DO) monitoring system was used to observe the transient change of dissolved oxygen concentration in livestock wastewater. The system was composed of BOD sensor, amplifier and computer. It was observed that the concentration of the microorganism in the livestock wastewater was relatively constant during the growth period of initial one hour, which allowed the assumption of the constant Oxygen Uptake Rate(OUR) within one hour of measurement. It was thus concluded that the present scheme provided a protocol for automatic measurement of BOD in livestock wastewater, which can be applicable to optimal control of livestock wastewater treatment plant.

  • Recently, research on carbon adsorbents has been active as an interest in improving the environment such as indoor and outdoor air quality. Considering that causative substances deteriorate the air quality are basically volatile organic compounds, it is important to improve the hydrophobicity of the carbon materials for better removal efficiency. This study presents a method for improving hydrophobicity of carbon and a measurement of the hydrophobicity. Generally, methods of improving the hydrophobicity of carbon materials are heat treatment, acid/alkali treatment, coating and immersion with hydrophobic materials. However, it collapses the pore structure and reduces the adsorption capacity. Therefore, this study briefly introduce not only the general method for improving carbon materials' hydrophobicity but also the method for converting the precursor of the material is briefly introduced. Futhermore, this study introduces a analytical technique used to determine hydrophobic modification or not, and aims to enhance the understanding of carbon materials.

  • Measurement of concentration fields in a micro-channel is the crucial technology in the area of Lab-on-a-chip to be used for various bio-chemical applications. It is wel-known that the only possible way to measure the concentration field in the micro-channel is using micro-LIF(Laser Induced Fluorescence) method. However, an accurate concentration field at a given cross plane in a micro-channel has not been made so far due to the limit of light illumination. The present study demonstrates a novel method to provide an ultra thin laser sheet beam having 5 microns thickness by a micro focus laser line generator. Nile Blue A was used as fluorescent dye for LIF measurement. The laser sheet beam illuminates an exact plane of concentration measurement in the micro-channel to increase the signal to noise ratio and reduce the depth uncertainty considerably.

  • In this paper, we have investigated mechanical and chemical properties by changing the content of carbon nanotube, which is component part of semiconductive shield in underground power transmission cable. Specimens were made of sheet with the eight of those for measurement. The condition of specimens was a solid sheet. Chemical properties of specimens was measured by FT-ATR (Fourier Transform Attenuated Total Reflectance). Stress-strain of specimens was measured by TENSOMETER 2000. A speed of measurement was 200[mm/min], ranges of stress and strain were 400[Kgf/Cm] and 600[%]. We could observe (unctional group (C=O, carbonyl group) of specimens through FT-ATR. From these experimental result, the concentration of functional group [C=O] was high accor야ng to increasing the content of carbon nanotube. We could know CNT/EEA was excellent more than other specimens from above experimental results. In Addition, the elongation ratio was decreased, and yield strength was increased according to increasing the content of carbon nanotube. Also, from these experimental result, we could know that a small amount of CNT/EEA has a excellent mechanical and chemical properties.

  • Chemical Mechanical Polishing(CMP) in semiconductor production is characterized its output property by Removal Rate(RR) and Non-Uniformity(NU). Some Previous works shows that RR is determined by production of pressure and velocity and NC is also largely affected by velocity of flow-field during CMP. This study is about the direct measurement of velocity of slurry during CMP and reconstruction whole flow-field by Particle Image Velocimetry(PIV) Techniques. Typical PIV system is tuned adequately for inspecting CMP and Slurry Flow-field is measured by changing both Pad RPM and Carrier RPM. The results show that velocity is majorly determined not by Carrier RPM, but by Pad RPM.

  • Furfurylidene acetophenone derivatives were synthesis, it was measured that nucleophilic addition made use of UV at a wide pH 1.0${\sim}$13.0 range in 30% dioxane-$H_2O$ solution, 25$^{\circ}C$. On the basis of general base catalysis, substitutent effect, confirmation of nucleophilic addition products, it was measured the reaction rate of furfurylidene acetophenone derivatives for the pH change. It may be concluded that a part was unrelated to pH and another part was in proportion to concentration of hydroxide ion: Above pH 10.0. sulfide anion adds to the double bond (Michael type addition), a part having no concern with pH, addition reaction to double bond is initiated by addition of neutral thiourea molecule. From the result of measurement the reaction rate, nucleophilic addition of furfurylidene acetophenone derivatives confirmed to the irreversible first order. Through measurement the substituent effect. It found that reaction rate was accelerated by electron attracting group. On the basis of these findings, nucleophilic addition of thiourea for the furfurylidene acetophenone derivative was proposed a fitting mechanisms.

  • Isotope dilution mass spectrometry (IDMS) was applied to the determination of Ni, Cr, Mo in low alloy steel reference materials. The Mo isotope ratio measurement was performed by dynamic reaction cell inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (DRC-ICP/MS) using ammonia as a reaction cell gas. In the case of Ni and Cr measurement, all data were obtained at medium resolution mode (m/${\Delta}m=3000$) of double focusing sector field high resolution inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (HR-ICP/MS). For the method validation of the technique was assessed using the certified reference materials such as NIST SRM 361, NIST SRM 362, NIST SRM 363, NIST SRM 364, NIST SRM 36b. This method was applied to the determination of Ni, Cr and Mo in low alloy steel sample (CCQM-P25) provided by NMIJ for international comparison study.

  • Recently ionic liquids received much attention as novel materials capable of replacing traditional solvents. The applicability of the ionic liquids should be determined based on their physico-chemical properties. Heat capacity is one of the most important properties to be considered when a process is developed using the ionic liquids and currently DSC has been proved as an effective technique to measure the heat capacity. Micro DSCII can measure heat capacities of various liquids by both an isothermal step method and a scanning method. DSC Q100 and MDSC are able to measure heat capacities of several ionic liquids. For each ionic liquid linear regression of the heat capacity as a function of temperature has been performed to increase accuracy. To investigate the feasibility of ionic liquids as PCMs, their heat capacities have been measured by using Pysis I DSC. This paper briefly summarizes the present techniques of measuring heat capacities of ionic liquids by DSC.
