The plasma display panel is an image expression display using gas discharge. However gas discharge characteristics vary with temperature. Furthermore, the potential difference among three electrodes appears in sustain period due to external applied voltages. It affects to the wall charge state accumulated on the electrodes. This research aims at identifying that the discharge characteristics depend on the potential difference and temperature. The results show that the wall charge loss increases with increase of the number of applied pulse during sustain period and it severely appears at high temperature.

This paper presnets the characteristics of electropolymerization and electrochemicla propoerties of polyaniline(PAn). From the morphology study on the PAn surface, it seems that coagulation of the fibrils on the surface proceeds as the PAn grows, resulting in fibril clusters with new branches and more extensive voids. While PAn/Li cell is cycled at potential range between 2.9V and 3.7V in which the first strong reduction peak of 2.75V does not appear, its oxidation reduction capacities were increased up to about tenth cycle. Electricity efficiency of stable charge-discharge to deep discharge in PAn/Li cell was 42.9%. Average charge potential, avergae discharge potential, energy density, and charge-discharge energy efficiency of the PAn/Li cell were 3.4V, 3.25V, 132.9Wh/kg, and 95.6%, respectively.
MCMB (Mesocarbon microbeads) is a kind of anode material for lithium-ion secondary battery. MCMB charge/discharge cycle stability is one of the important criterion at lithium-ion battery operation. In this study, the cycling stability of a lithium-ion secondary battery has been examined. MCMB was made by the direct solvent extraction method. After the MCMB was carbonized and graphitized, the measurement of charge/discharge capacity and efficiency were carried out. In the result, discharge capacity of MCMB in the initial cycle was above 290.0 mAh/g. After the second cycle, efficiency of charge/discharge MCMB was about 98%. These results were similar to the commercial MCMB product.
The charge/discharge capacity of natural graphite anode in lithium secondary batteries was examined as a function of charge/discharge rate. When the natural graphite anode was galvanostatically cycled in the range of 0.0-2.0V $(vs.\;Li/Li^+)$, the charging capacity decreased with an increase in the charging rate, which is caused by an earlier approach to the charging cut-off (0.0 V) before the complete charging that is in turn caused by an ever-increasing overpotential at higher rates. Even if the overpotential of discharging reaction also increased at higher discharge rates, the discharging reaction took place in the range of 0.0-0.3 V that is far below the discharge cut-off (2.0 V). As a result, the discharge capacity was not affected by the discharge rate because all the lithium ions once intercalated are fully discharged even at high current condition. As the overpotential of lithium deposition reaction also increased at high current condition, the charge capacity of natural graphite could be enlarged by lowering the charging cut-off voltage below 0.0 V, There is, however, a limitation for the lowering of cut-off voltage because the resistance for lithium deposition is smaller than that of lithium intercalation into graphite. When the charge cut-off voltage was lowered down to -0.04 V under IC condition, lithium ions were inserted into graphite without lithium deposition such that the discharge capacity could be raised up to $11\%$.

In this paper, we present new method to analyze the space charge effect on the electrical characteristics in polymer. It is new measurement system and analysis method that have not reported yet. By using this measurement system, we make observation to space charge accumulated on the surface of polymer at AC voltage, so it is examined to verify the correlation of space charge and partial discharge(PD). In the result of experiment, it can be known that PD pattern is related more closely to space charge accumulated on the surface of polymer than in the inner part, and applied voltage in the air is ruled by this dynamic partial discharge. Also, above critical voltage, the space charge accumulated on the surface of polymer have no effect to the magnitude of PD and the applied voltage in the air. It has been known that the electric power of the dissolution system is proportioned to the frequency and the magnitude of applied voltage, but we can know by this result of the experiment that the efficiency of the dissolution is not related to the rise of voltage above critical voltage.
A fully coupled finite element analysis (FEA) technique was developed for analyzing the discharge phenomena and dielectric liquid flow while considering surface charge density effects in dielectric flow guidance. In addition, the simulated speed of surface charge propagation was compared and verified with the experimental results shown in the literature. Recently, electrohydrodynamics (EHD) techniques have been widely applied to enhance the cooling performance of electromagnetic systems by utilizing gaseous or liquid media. The main advantage of EHD techniques is the non-contact and low-noise nature of smart control using an electric field. In some cases, flow can be achieved using only a main electric field source. The driving sources in EHD flow are ionization in the breakdown region and ionic dissociation in the sub-breakdown region. Dielectric guidance can be used to enhance the speed of discharge propagation and fluidic flow along the direction of the electric field. To analyze this EHD phenomenon, in this study, the fully coupled FEA was composed of Poisson's equation for an electric field, charge continuity equations in the form of the Nernst-Planck equation for ions, and the Navier-Stokes equation for an incompressible fluidic flow. To develop a generalized numerical technique for various EHD phenomena that considers fluidic flow effects including dielectric flow guidance, we examined the surface charge accumulation on a dielectric surface and ionization, dissociation, and recombination effects.

The discharge characteristics of a ramp reset waveform in the alternating current plasma display panel(ac PDP) were studied using a 2-dimensional numerical simulation. We analyzed the wall charge variation during the reset discharge, address discharge and sustain discharge adopting a ramp reset waveform. Then we investigated the principal parameters for a successful discharge. In this paper, we suggest a new parameter, printing particles' density and its effects on the stability of the ramp discharge. The maximum current flows of the three electrodes during the ramp reset period were decreased with the increase in the priming particles's density which was explained with the wall charge characteristics and the current flow characteristics obtained by a 2-D simulation.

In micro-EBM, it is well blown that RC circuit is suitable for discharge circuit because of its low pulse width and relatively high peak current. To increase machining speed without changing unit discharge energy, charge resistance should be decreased. But, if very low, continuous (or normal) arc discharge occurs, then increases electrode wear and reduces machining speed remarkably. In this paper, RC circuit with transistor is used to micro-EDM. Experimental results show that RC circuit with transistor can cut off continuous (or normal) arc discharge effectively if duty factor and switching period of transistor are set up optimally. Through experiments with varying charge resistance, it can be known that RC circuit with transistor has about two times faster machining speed than that of RC circuit. Especially, it has prominent rise-effect of machining speed in low unit discharge energy, so that a high-quality and high-speed micro-EDM can be realized through RC circuit with transistor.
The trend of increasing of portable electric devices and demand for global environmental conservation have demands the development of high energy density rechargeable batteries. Lithium polymer battery has excellent theoretical energy density and energy conversion efficiency. Lithium polymer battery, included solid polymer electrolyte(SPE), can be viewed as a system suitable for wide applications from thin film batteries for microelectronics to electric vehicle batteries. The purpose of this paper is to research and development of flyash anode for lithium polymer battery. We investigated AC impedance response and charge/discharge characteristics of flyash/SPE/Li cells. The radius of semicircle associated with the interfacial resistance of flyash/SPE/Li cell increased very slowly during discharge process from 3.11V to 0.478V. And then the cell resistance was decreased at discharge process from 10% SOC to 0% SOC. Also, The radius of semicircle associated with the interfacial resistance of flyash/SPE/Li cell decreasing very slowly during charge process. And then the cell resistance was increased after 20th discharge precess. The discharge capacity based on flyash of 1st and 20th cycles was 276mAh/g and 143mAh/g.

The characteristics of the reset and the address discharges of an alternating current Plasma Display Panel (ac PDP) were studied using 2-dimensional numerical discharge cell simulation. We investigated the wall charge variations during the reset discharge adopting ramping reset pulse and the subsequent addressing discharge. The roles of the ramping reset scheme can be divided into two stages, each electrode gathers wall charges during ramping-up of the initial stage and the built-up wall charges are lost during ramping-down of the later stage. Address discharge does not only change the wall charge distributions on the address and the scan electrodes but also on the sustain electrode. The increase in the wall charges on the sustain electrode was observed with the variation of the applied voltage to the sustain electrode during the address period. The increase of the applied voltage to the sustain electrode during the address period is expected to induce the decrease of the sustain voltage during the display period.
